  • The Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay is the first RM ebike we’ve had on the channel. So there are many new things to discover here. How will the DynaMe drive stand up against the Shimano EP8 and Yamaha SyncDrive? How does Rocky tune the suspension for their ebikes? Firm or gooey? Is the battery going to die and leave you stranded? Stick around to find out.

    Great explanation on what this bike is about and especially how that motor works. One of the best.

    Great review Connor as usual, thank you very much. I had a power play Altitude 70 2020, move to an Heckler MX 2021 and will be back next week to Rocky Mountain power play altitude C90 you just reviewed. You helped me a a lot in that choice and I have to say, even if I love a lot the Heckler the power delivery of the altitude is so natural (and silent) that I prefer this feeling without mentioning the great Rocky geometry. Thank you very much again.

    wow! your reviews are always good and informative. Your channel deserves more viewers. Question with sizing, for someone like 5'8 or 5'9 is it advisable to go size medium or large? I know its just easier to go to the shop and throw a leg on it but with the current situation it is next to impossible. Thanks!

      Hey thanks for the kind words!
      I make a point to not give out specific size advice over the internet. Would hate to be the reason someone ended up on the wrong size because I couldn’t see them on the bike. We did make a video about bike sizing in general. That might help you decide.

      Hi mate, I work for Rocky Mountain here in Australia and at your height I would recommend a Medium. Usually someone who is between 5'10 and 6' feet would ride a large and 6'1 plus would be an XL. I'm generalizing but that's usually the case.

    I wonder how the Instinct would compare to the Heckler? That's one thing that isn't emphasized enough with these Rocky's. How you can buy one frame and tune for days. Between the Ride 4 (or Ride 9 on the alalog versions), the adjustable chain stays, and the replaceable front bracket, you can really dial in whatever you want ahead of whatever your riding will be. Way cheaper than multiple bikes. It really makes having the best motor worth it.

    Great review! Glad you mentioned the Boost settings. They chang the motor feel 100%. Most reviews on this bike the reviewer never charges this. They feel they have to put in a lot of effort to get the motor going. The boost modes change this. I feel Rockey Mountain should have +1 boost in the factory setting. They would have more riders happy with the bikes right out of the box.

    Is the noise that the chain makes comparable to the noise of the bosch shimano engines? Do you feel vibrations when pedaling with rocky?

    • @bikersedge

      This bike is way quieter than the new Shimano stuff. It’s been too long since I’ve ridden Bosch to say for sure.

    I had a 2023 Rocky Mtn Altitude 4.0 . It required a lot more rider energy than a Brose, Bosch or Yamaha to get the most out of it. The biggest drawback was the battery charging system overcharged the battery and the battery exploded and burned everything in my garage to ashes. Rocky Mountain seemed to want to help, but in the end they just wanted to get the burned bike out of my possession and pretend it never happened. They hired a bunch of lawyers to threaten me from telling this true event. I feel a duty to warn potential buyers of the very real danger of keeping a Rocky Mountain bike indoors. The damage to my home and property is over 350k, and I am lucky to be alive. Don't take the risk with a Rocky Mountain E-MTB. It is not worth it.

      Damn. That’s really bad. Sorry to hear it.

  • @malanalan1
    @malanalan1 2 роки тому

    Thanks for the video but to me ebike is foremost about climbing. You only get 108nm torque out of that motor when you pedal 85 rpm. I find this as a major downside. Also, that motor bump which you have experienced with Yamha and Shimano is very helpful when downshifting uphill. This and short chainstay makes this bike not a very good hill climber.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  2 роки тому +3

      I don’t think the short chainstay makes it a poor climber. It still feels very balanced.
      For me an ebike should do the things a regular bike does. If it sucks downhill, why even pedal it to the top of a hill?

    5:45 what you seem to be describing is that the power is released at high cadence , which is not a plus feature in my opinion.
    My bosch cx motor delivers the power in turbo but you have to be pedaling pretty fast . my NOX with Sachs rs motor ( 112] nm delivers all of its power at low cadence , 40 to 60 Rpm.that's insanely low and a good thing as it doesn't wear you out going up long steep hills .
