    Special Thanks to Candace van Dell for the advice around 2:40

    Inspired by the Love of Jesus Christ
    Verse of the Day (as related to the topic of this video):
    "I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    Wonderful are Your works,
    And my soul knows it very well."
    - Psalm 139:14 (AMP)
    A movie I highly recommend: The Gospel According to Matthew (starring a very animated and engaging acting performance by Bruce Marchiano, who plays Jesus). This is a word-for-word adaptation that has a unique take on the body language and charisma of Jesus, and also makes it easier to understand and quicker to read the story. I am hopeful that this movie gives you peace, love, hope, security, comfort, and answers, as it did me, and continues to do to this day. God bless you.

    sussie always gave me "mentally ill but perfectly fine" vibes if that makes sense, and as much as I myself thought it was "weird", Id like to say that it's grown on me and that I often find myself feeling better when I act similarly (not caring about what others think of me) and when I cut my hair, put on my favorite clothes, and do whatever I want it really is a great feeling, who cares if I'm weird? I feel great and that's what matters :D

      Hey being weird is one of the best things you can be. If people describe you as weird that means they see themselves as “normal” which normally leads to being boring or not themselves. If a person isn’t weird hey aren’ themself. That’s what I’ve learned throughout my life

      I understand what you’re trying to say, but there’s something I want to state, thinking about your words: I don’t want to be seen as nothing more than a vessel for my condition.
      I don’t want to hate it, since it’s already a part of myself, but I’m not fond of putting it on a pedestal and seeing it as the ultimate solution to all my problems.
      It has its pros and cons. It isn’t “cute” or “quirky”. It’s still a mental condition, and that is perfectly fine.

    I always thought of Sussie as one of the most relatable and complex characters in the show.
    The earliest example I can think of is at the end of the season 3 episode “The Question”. Gumball and Darwin are perplexed as to what the meaning of life is when they come across Sussie flinging mayo at pidgeons. She then tells them that she believes life is completely subjective and they should live it however they want. This shows that even in earlier episodes, Sussie had some considerable depth.
    While I consider season 5 to be on the weaker side of TAWoG, I’d say “The Weirdo” is one of my favorite episodes. It’s probably the best example of why I love her as a character. The music video at the end really amplifies her creative mind with the crayon aesthetic.
    *TL;DR*, while most characters in the show see her as weird, I see her as deeply misunderstood. She just wants to give presents and do nice things for people, while not grasping why her fellow classmates are confused and uncomfortable. She will live her life the way she wants and she doesn’t care what other people think, yet she’s completely civil about it

  • @aceaids4000
    @aceaids4000 3 роки тому +75

    I honestly start to feel bad for her after this type of explanation, but it makes me happy remembering she doesn't care what I think and goes on with her own life in the show. She's real underrated!

    I whole-heartedly adore the message of this Gumball episode but I can see that one might think of this kind of self-love as being egoistic and only caring about oneself. It may be helpful to emphazise a difference between being forced to change in order to fit in with the norm and willingly changing your usual behaviour as a sign of respect and love towards the other person (like when you offer someone to listen to their problems even though you'd rather talk about something more pleasant).
    Either way, another great and passionate video with a wholesome message we all can truly benefit from. Thank you!

    0:26 I think shame is necessary at a certain point. Its how we sort out things that are bad and call them out. If we hold ourselves back from talking about certain things, due to the fact it would cause shame on someone else, thats still removing expression. Idk I just like to go at both sides with things.
    1:56 its interesting because im not sure happiness always matters. But like... Okay so shes happy, but she also is completely lacking in self awareness. Like to an extreme degree. Ignorance is bliss as they say. But is being dumb and happy better than being aware and a bit sad sometimes?
    3:06 I guess sometimes ignorance is bliss because ignorance is one way to find the truth since you dont know about the lies in that case...
    I guess my point is, while its okay to love yourself, and most of the things people say are wrong, its also good to keep in mind that your actions do effect other people. It might not be in ways that hurt them, but it could make them uncomfortable and upset in a different way. The best way to go about things is to love yourself *and* others. And you need to be aware (not focused completely on, but aware) of what others think of you in order to do that sometimes.

    I think a thing about Sussie that drives the point home is that she acts the way she does cuz she wants to. At multiple points of the show Sussie shows almost uncharacteristic levels of knowledge and speech. For example in the episode "The Question", Gumball and Darwin end up saying they won't find the meaning of life and that Sussie seems to have figured it out for herself, to which she replied:
    "Well, yes. You see, life's not about the destination, it's about the journey and making friends along the way. The search for meaning is, in fact, the very thing that gives our life meaning, so, really, the only question that is truly worth asking is finding your own way to enjoy it."
    Gumball then asks if laughing at Mr. Small's fail is one example, to which Sussie responds "or doing this" and continues to act like her usual goofy self. With this in mind it can be interpreted that Sussie could change or act differently if she wanted to, but she chooses not to change herself because she enjoys it, which imo, gives the idea a lot more meaning.

    If people loved themselves unconditionally they would never have a reason to change and grow, ever. Unsurprisingly, you didn't touch this harder, more interesting subject. Because, since you love yourself so much, why would you. Self-criticism is not an option.

      That’s an interesting point u brought up. I’ve actually thought abt this a lot, the dichotomy of loving yourself as you are vs growing as a person and I would say if you truly loved someone, you wouldn’t let them become a horrible person right? Like a parent with their child, it is their right as their loving supporter to help the child become a person they Themselves would be proud of becoming. And i would say it’s the same with loving yourself. The key is a good, strong set of values/moral principles.

  • @Viddy3
    @Viddy3 2 роки тому +2

    I would agree with you mostly, but you gotta admit, you need some shame to progress in life. You can’t be gross and do horrible things because it’s being yourself and feel you don’t need to follow rules. You know?

    The only way sussie could be that happy is if her IQ was very low, which I guess IS canon since she was dropped on her head. The only person I know of who was able to be happy in a bad situation had an IQ of 46.

    I’ve always struggled with being me, and accepting/expressing myself.
    Especially, since I’m trans masc- I’ve always lived in fear of rejection and general hate. It hurts, wanting to be free, and loving myself. It’s hard to love yourself, when society doesn’t.
    This video really puts those feelings into words. Amazing work as always man

    How does everyone feel about your own self-love journey?, if you feel comfortable sharing.
    I ask because when I joined a FB community helping people with anxiety and depression I asked "Do you love yourself"? and most people said No. They said they didnt deserve love because of what had happened in their life. So I started to help people learn to love themselves unconditionally and started a small Facebook community around the concept called Our Self-love superpower. Even if you don't reply, I want you to ask yourself one question, think of someone you care about. If they were in the same situation as you and said the negative things you said to yourself or the things you believe are facts bit are just opinions, what would you tell them? And try asking yourself, then why are you talking to yourself the same way? If you find value in learning to love yourself Id love to talk to you about it

    OK, accepting yourself, got it .
    But sometimes their weirdness can be dangerous to their surroundings.
    Let's take Luz noceda ( disney)
    Yeah I m still waiting a redemption arc . Where she sincerely apologize for a behavior to her classmates
    At the beginning of the show she liked expressing herself and quote on quote " was weird"
    >to the point of almost killing classmate and the director with snakes.
    Good for that nobody at seemed to be allergic to snakes or have phobias.
    You can be yourself and weird if you like but at the expense of the people 's security.
    Here in gumball, Susie, could be dangerous, the first time, she gave a toad or a frog. What s next? A tarantula?
    A venomous specie?
    I really want her to be happy but she needs to learn control herself.

It also has so much meme potential.
