As a indigenous person of North America born in the 1990's, this was my first Disney movie to see other indigenous people in film, this movie is a hot potato when it comes to debates, and a lot of indigenous people cannot stand this movie for their own reasons but, personally for me, Pocahontas will always have a special place in my heart, and I would like to say Thank You Peyton for covering this song, and doing such an amazing video for it too.
Me too. I'm not native American, but I can see my people relating to the movie; white people come to "discover" and conquer what was already claimed. Pocahontas and Moana are the two manmaga'haga (daughter of the chiefs) that my Chamorro manggafa (family) could relate to. Asaina ha guiaya hao 😇
Hell yeah I feel it my mom said we were black foot but she was adopted early like I think 1-2 years and we don't know her real origins but I've always been connected with this song plus having turquoise as a birthstone kinda makes me wonder how close am I really to the Blackfoot but I'll say this it'll always hold a special place in my heart due to the reasons behind the song it's straight beautiful 😇👍😎

I don’t know who this guy is. I almost scrolled past, then scrolled back up out of nostalgia for my childhood. I did not expect this, this was so good! I didn’t think I could like a male cover of this song as much as I like a particular female cover but this blew me away. I love the rock twist. I’m about to listen to this song again. Also, these lyrics are beautiful and make me feel connected with nature and my own partially native roots.

Pocahontas was my favorite disney movie as a kid. Thanks for this Peyton I had chills listening to it, though I get chills listening most of your songs. Your voice is just so amazing.

As much as I've loved the original since I was 7 years old, the new life you've breathed into this song speaks to a part of my soul which has been left forgotten and untouched for over 20 years. A powerful tribute to what Disney once was. Poccahontas wasn't my favorite movie growing up, but the music was top-notch as it was in everything Disney did in that era. There are days I really miss the 80's and 90's.
This made me cry so much 😭🥺 it is so beautiful and his voice is perfect with it and he is really conveying the pain and hurt that Indigenous people have been through or anyone who has had their land taken from them. I would love to hear this in Elder Futhark and in a Nordic style as well I bet it would sound beautiful ❤️
