About the Rank S, I don't know if you found out already, but the speed far outweigh the damage/ammo cost, but the game allows a "bonus time" if you kill the enemy with the combat log or enemies that grant you extra cash (not the most reliable method, though)

For the engines you can just slash them with your blade without needing to boost off the platform to hit the yellow area

i remember playing a gundam game on the ps1 or 2 that was very similar to this just not as fast

The gundam games were always mid unless it was the 2d fighter ones. AC has always been the only good mech game imo
