This one was their 1st commercial hits 30 years ago. Check out other songs on this album or one of their previous albums if you want heavier punk less commercial sound. Most of the music after this album was more commercial sounding
Love that you're sticking with digging into Green Day. As you noted, they are a band that seem to have slightly different sounds in different eras. Yet between them all there's still something 'them' about it. The old shit like this absolutely cooks though. Other older songs that you'll like based on liking this: Welcome to Paradise, Brain Stew, Hitchin a Ride, Minority, Walking Contradiction
When this video came out, it was so refreshing- all the angst and earnestness of grunge, but more FUN. Quintessential Green Day to me combines angst and heart with a giddy, irreverant glee. More early stuff: Brainstew/ Jaded, Welcome to Paradise (no official vid but the Warner Records Vault video is great), She (Jaded in Chicago version is a fantastic unhinged performance- for that matter the entire concert is absolute fire)...
I called this one. Early and loud, the best Green Day. Radio did still matter in '94, and it did get airplay. Alt rock was 3 years old, but Green Day could fit with the stations that followed that trend and the stations that didn't go alt. Nice album title and cover, too.
I've been waiting for this one. Such a classic. The song has a few entendres in it as well. When he says "some say quit or I'll go blind" it's a double. It used to be a saying that if you... played with yourself... too much, then you'd go blind. The double is that they also say if you drop too many psychedelics then you can "go blind" from the persistent visuals. Fun fact: Mike Dirnt (bassist) supposedly wrote the bass line while tripping on LSD. I guess it took him some time to remember how it went to record the track.
The bass line was written and recorded by Mike Dirnt whilst he was off his face on shrooms. They went back into the studio the following day and found it on tape and he didn’t remember doing it and had to learn the line from his own recording 😂 And yeah, as someone else mentioned in here, this song is (one of several by GD) about masturbation. See also “2000 Light Years Away” off Kerplunk album. There are others, but I can’t bring them to mind atm. I’m sure someone will jump in and add to the list 😊 I remember reading an interview with Billie Joe around the time of the release of either Warning or American Idiot where he said “yeah, no more songs about wanking” 😂 Ps. One euphamism for said self pleasuring act is “spanking the monkey”. That’s why there’s one in this video. You’re welcome 😉👍🏻😁
I love how Billie Joe plays around with sounds-it’s like he's always experimenting and pushing boundaries. It’s refreshing to see an iconic band like Green Day always mixing things up because, let’s be real, a lot of artists just stick to one sound, and it can get kinda repetitive. But my band’s the same way-constantly jumping between styles, and it’s great to see an ionic band like Green Day doing the same thing. Keeps it fresh and exciting! 😉
It’s my favorite too. I’ll never forget the day I got it, I was 11 at the time, and my mom knew I was a huge Green Day fan. As soon as I got home from the mall, I went to my room and sat in the floor listening to it over and over again for 3 hours. When I came out, she said, “So, how’s your new CD?” And I said, “It’s great! I have no idea what they’re saying, but it makes me want to smash my face against the wall!” She looked at me with a (very) concerned smile, and said, “That’s…..good!” 😂
If you wanna see Green Day close out a show in the most punk way possible, watch their Woodstock 94 performance. Turns into a massive mudfight by the end.
This song is from 1994 the first major album if you like the louder stuff try brain stew, letterbomb, hitch a ride, and their version of a rock, opera Jesus of suburbia
Please don't insult Tre like that 😅 fun fact, the monkey bit Billie! Also, I'll tell you anything you want to know about Green Day! They were always considered "too pop" even in the Gilman punk scene they came up in. Some of my favourite tunes are from their pre Dookie albums. This video was on Beavis & Butthead 😂
I really liked Green Day back then. I'm not into the newer stuff so much. This song slaps though! Basketcase is a good one, too. I think its from the same album.🔥
This is the CD that ever teenager in the mid-90's had three copies of over the course of CDs longevity. Green Day was the most fashionable end of the SoCal punk scene, a lot of people figured out punk from Green Day and some local band their older brother knew about. Some other SoCal punk bands you would like are NoFX (Punk in Drublic), Pennywise (About Time) or Descendents (Everything Sucks). Theres a shitload of punk to listen to, I hope to see you make your way down some different genres of punk!
The Godzilla soundtrack version of Brain Stew (Not Censored) is the version I like. This, Basketcase and a couple of the others on album Dookie were in constant rotation on MTV & Radio in 1994-1999 (I don't know about after that, I didn't have cable). I graduated 9th Grade in '94, HS in '97, one of the bands that was prominent on the Friday and Saturday night drag.
The Vandals, "Urban Struggles " . Dead Kennedys , Police Truck" or Bad Religion , "21st. Century ". These are the bands that they got their influences from. OG Punk. This was radio punk
Love, Love Green Day. Keep exploring! -- If you want to go full throttle Punk, hit The Stooges. Front man Iggy Pop = Godfather of American Punk. I'd suggest, "Down on the Street" as an appetizer and then go to their earlier work. jmho
Reactors stop going by the date of the song on UA-cam! If the song was after 2007 it’s correct (for the most part). This song came out in 94. Great reaction! 😊
This only sounds commercial cause it's 30 years after Green Day set the standard. In 94, this was a whole new aural assault. I was a freshman in HS when Dookie came out and it was life changing. Same with Offsprings 'Smash'
You want to look more for songs from the albums dookie or nimrod I think, American idiot is also great. Unrelated note I think this video is not being recommended by UA-cam if I’m the second person to see it a few days after upload
Not a band that will get you a lot of views, but check out the Night Birds songs, "Killer Waves" and "Midnight Movies" they have a solid surf punk vibe. Heavy, but also super energy.
Green Day is not really punk or pop, but rather considered "pop-punk", a genre almost created for them/bands like them. Keeping to the punk ethos, aesthetic and attitude while having a pop-commercial appeal. A lot of their inspiration is from punk music but they knew how to write a great hook to get the wider audience. This song and many others from this era of theirs were always on the radio in the mid-90's!! GD is always one of my top listened to artists to this day!
This one was their 1st commercial hits 30 years ago. Check out other songs on this album or one of their previous albums if you want heavier punk less commercial sound. Most of the music after this album was more commercial sounding
Dookie was such a badass album man. One of my all time favorites. Cant even tell you how many times ive listened to it all the way through 😂💜
This dropped in 1994
Year I was born...
Damn I'm getting old.
this song was released in february 1, 1994, which was 31 years ago today.
Came out in '94

Warning and Brain Stew are 2 of my favourite.
This song was definitely on the radio. The chorus is outstanding!

I seen them 7 or 8 years ago and they were amazing!!!!
I love their shit. Love sooo many of their songs.
I was able to get front row at a Green Day show and it's been one of the best concerts I've ever been too!
3:35 I said it during the live stream and I’ll say it again here- the absolute DISRESPECT to Tre Cool 😂
For real, if Tre heard that comment, he would definitely……uh, make a funny face 😂
Billie played Mark Zuckerbergs wedding
One of the most recognizable bass lines 🔥
Soundtrack of my high school experience ...Keep going 👍.
Same. That and Christie Road.
I'm glad you're enjoying this green day rabbit hole, this era IMO was the best
One of my favorite Green Day "fun" songs. Not too deep, just fun.
F*CK YES MORE GREEN DAY!
In my area, Green Day still grts crazy radio play on the rock stations, esp alt rock ones.
It's my 3rd favorite Green Day song behind #2 "Redundant" and #1 "Walking Contradiction"
Gave me something to check out I've never even heard these tracks . Thanks friend
I love Green Day so much
Welcome to paradise is probably their "heaviest" track
The bass line was written and recorded by Mike Dirnt whilst he was off his face on shrooms. They went back into the studio the following day and found it on tape and he didn’t remember doing it and had to learn the line from his own recording 😂

And of course, “All By Myself” if we’re counting that as a real song 😂
@ 😂😁👍🏻
Pop Punk
I was in my first year of high school when this came out. The CD almost never left my player. And yes, it was on the radio all the time.
yes it was! This one and Basketcase are probably my favorites. I wore out that Dookie CD lol
I live in Longview...WA
great song off great album! ♥ Green Day! You gotta do their song - *Geek Stink Breath*
@@Bekka_Noyb awesome song… the video is hard to watch tho!
@@believeindog there are audio only options
Green Day's "Brain Stew Godzilla remix" has been on my playlist for years and years 🔥
If you want Heavy, this is it 😉

Insomniac is by far my Green Day album, it's probably their heaviest album. A great duel track from that album is Brainstew/Jaded.
It’s my favorite too. I’ll never forget the day I got it, I was 11 at the time, and my mom knew I was a huge Green Day fan. As soon as I got home from the mall, I went to my room and sat in the floor listening to it over and over again for 3 hours.

Big Green Day fan. This came out in the mid-90s, I think 1994 or 1995.
I didn't know the name of this one. Thank you again
This song is from 1994 the first major album if you like the louder stuff try brain stew, letterbomb, hitch a ride, and their version of a rock, opera Jesus of suburbia
☮️💜🤘🤘
Pulling Teeth is a mix of Punk and 50's Rock with a dark story woven into the mix.
Great song! I consider it the sequel to Dominated Love Slave 😉
🤟🤘❤🔥
When I think of Green Day....this is the song I think of. Would love to see your reaction to Violent Femmes. Try "Blister in the Sun". 😂
Brainstew is a must.
Watch the duel video for Brain Stew/Jaded by them
Please don't insult Tre like that 😅 fun fact, the monkey bit Billie! Also, I'll tell you anything you want to know about Green Day! Pop punk
Tre is a killer drummer
you do realize this song is about masturbation
@wayneholland3243 as well as all the behaviors that lead to that level of lack of motivation, to point where even that becomes boring and lazy.
Dookie Album is by far their best album in my humble opinion, no skips on this album! ❤
The Vandals, "Urban Struggles " . Dead Kennedys , Police Truck" or Bad Religion , "21st. Century ". These are the bands that they got their influences from. OG Punk. This was radio punk
Green Day has a song called 21st. Century. Bad Religion is "21st century ( Digital Boy)"
Love, Love Green Day. Keep exploring! -- If you want to go full throttle Punk, hit The Stooges. Front man Iggy Pop = Godfather of American Punk. I'd suggest, "Down on the Street" as an appetizer and then go to their earlier work. jmho
Did you check out green day croud sings bohemian rhapsody? Its really amazing

Cant wait for you ti get to American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown
This song is about the thing you finally figured out at the end, hence the line “I’m so damn bored I’m going blind”
But it’s just a myth…😉😁
Green Day's Dookie album came out in 1994. This video and song is much much older than 15.
I have followed you for years....loving this phase...Please react to Jamey Johnson...In Color ( video) Much ❤and Respect ✌️

They have older albums before Dookie. Kerplunk and 39/smooth. Dookie was Their breakthrough album.
🤷🏻♀️😜🤷🏻♀️😜❤️❤️👵🏼. I think Gmaw

I notice you haven’t done ‘Minority’ yet. From that album I would also do ‘Misery’. It’s a really different sound than some of their other work.
try listening to Revolution Radio or Bang Bang, both by Green Day
These and Still Breathing are my favorite off that album. That tour was so good also
I hope they go to the Philippines for a concert and play these songs. They’ve never been there.
Some say quit cuz I'll go blind 😅
Dookie is a great listen! Chump, Basket case two more good ones
Please listen to sting, fields of Gold, and other music by the police, stings band
Just do a full album reaction of Dookie. It's one banger after another
Yoo, react to heart of gold by Johnny cash, or highwayman live at nassau colisseum 1990
Tre’s not the greatest drummer ever but I still love the way he sounds.
Longview was released off the Dookie album in 1994, not 2011
If you like this one listen to brain stew/jaded next
If you want more punk need to go pre dookie era
This is from 94' or 95'
How a song about masturbating out of boredom became a radio hit still boggles me 🤣
I still want you and Karen to react to Hollywood undead undead.
top 5 songs about wackin off easy
I was 16 when this released
This is a perfect album
No. This is mid 90s
Nimrod is their best album.
Dookie is 30 years old
Try 31 years ago
again, stop going by uplaod date as to when it came out. this song came out in 1994 you are better off googling when a song came out
Haha dont do Trey COOL like that, he is way better than mark suck 😭😂
Funny that the song is about masturbation.
Before they sold out. What a shame
who the hell cares bro. y’all have been saying that for over 30 years. give it a rest
You want some real punk? Let's start you off easy with some Pennywise. Bro Hymn would be a good place to start.
My hometown
Longview Washington
Total sht hole lol
