- The story of the famous Opel Manta at the ADAC TOTAL 24h-Race Nürburgring 2019 was a real drama. After having a breakdown in Qualifying 2, Manta came back on track for the race until an even harder accident with #46 Mercedes-AMG took him out of the race - so it seemed.

Respect. The team could have seen the crash and just said,"Well, race over." But they worked hard over night just to give it 5 more minutes of track time. I love it.
I nearly got emotional from the respect the Manta gets form all of the teams and fans scattered along the trackside! Wonderful!

I was at this race in 2015 and the Manta is a real part of the event. This race just isn't complete with the good old Manta, the fans absolutely love it. When I was there at the track and it crossed the finish line (winning SP3 class, 52nd overall that year) it received an applause as big, maybe even bigger, than the winning GT3 car. The Manta isn't just a car racing here, it's an icon!
That Opel Manta is the highlight of the Nurnburgring 24H for me, it's so old compared to the rest of the grid and yet its still going like a boss, such a under the radar car
Even in its own time, the Manta was something of an underdog; the Manta was originally homologated for Group B rallying but was wholly outmatched by its rivals due to it being 2WD and Naturally-Aspirated, when most of the cars in Group B were fitted with forced induction, had all wheel drive, or in the Big Four's case (Audi Quattro, Peugeot 205T16, Ford RS200 and Lancia Delta S4), both.
Its direct rival back in the day was the Nissan Silvia 240RS; another 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated Front-Engine RWD car. The Manta's best finish in the WRC was 2nd at the 1984 Safari Rally Kenya, with the 240RS' best finish being 2nd in the 1983 Rally New Zealand.
The oldest driver is actually 74 on this manta so not the car is old :D

The mascot of the N24! And VLN also. I just adore this car and team. Remember this is a team on a very small budget ans jet they are the crowd's favorite car for the last couple of years. Respect to the manta team!
It's a shame ADAC are doing their best to price them out. N24 will lose a lot of fans and viewers with the old Manta.

Was a huge performance of this team, they never give up, sympathics from all fans around the track. Returning the last lap was just only for the fans and the message to all, were come back again!

Auch wenn der Manta inzwischen fast ein Shilouette-Car ist, ist er für das Rennen wertvoller als jeder der Supersportler im Feld.

Habe meinen Manta B GTE 1989 weggegeben , wie ich mich darüber schon geärgert habe . Hätte den Platz gehabt ihn gut länger unterzustellen um den irgendwann wieder fit zu machen. Manches kommt nicht zurück . No second Chance ! Aber gut zu sehen das noch welche da sind. Erinnerungen an eine tolle Autozeit kommt zurück. 😉

I had a few GSI Mantas in Germany. They are light. About 1.100kg. With some adequate power, 300hp, they go like stink. Even stock they're no slouches.
The 24 hours at the Nürburgring are unthinkable without this car.....its an legend
