My favorite part of Mr. Eller’s instructional videos? His mastery of the English language of course! Not only am I learning some sick licks, but he’s saving me time as well! Thanks Mr. Eller!
This a very good exercise, I've been doing a very similar variant over the last couple of months and seen massive improvement in my fretting, picking accuracy and speed for arpeggios.
When I first heard ‘It’s No Game Part 1’ on Scary Monsters, My little 14 year old ears got excited, and I always loved that dissonant sound. Thanks Uncle Ben ! Now I’ve got another exercise to annoy everyone with. And being a painter gives me an obvious advantage 🤔
This video was more better than other videos on the webs. Flock O guitars aside, Mate, you really have acquired quite the Gaggle O amps that any step dad would be proud of, I guess selling the step kids paid off.
Would be great if you shared more chugging exercises like the one a few weeks back that shifted rhythms across 4 positions. Im still playing that one daily!
I’ve been using this for years, a friend of mine in highschool showed it to me and called it the “X pattern” scale that we’d always try to jam somewhere into a song.
I've been doing this exact exercise for about 30 years, just came up with it practicing sitting on my bed one day. I then used it as a skeleton to build licks from, finish on the root note and your good.
@@BenEller actually I discovered this more like 40 yrs ago, time flies when your a guitar bum. I was really into King Crimson and couldn't work out the Crimson stuff, anyway I had shared a hippy cigarette with a mate. Got home and was messing around trying to be Crimsony with my $200 Fender Bronco and just fell into it. It's just wild that a thing, an Aussie kid discovered by accident years ago comes up on one of my favourite UA-cam guitar guys video like 40 yrs later.....keep up the great work mate, you can be my stepdad anytime🍻
Another awesome vid Ben. But we need more vids on the guitars you play. This reissue is a killer Ibanez plus we need more vids on your 7’s like the universe you acquired 🎉
Great exercise! What’s the song played when “weekend wankshop” pops up? You got some tunes inside ya ….why not release some? The one you did for the Astro 20 demo rocked!
I will probably head to the bathroom as soon as I try this crazy thing... why do we do these things to ourselves? I know, we are happy when we can get through it correctly... glad that I take "step dad speed" as my goal! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🔥
Lolol… Fripp would be proud! In the “math metal” band (whatever the hell that is) we had when I was way younger, we had a song called Zeno’s Paradox” that had all this creepy crawly stuff in it. 😊 Thanks, Uncy Bang
I learnt that first part of the warm up exercise from Rock Discipline, but used to sweep it. Do you recon alt picking it would jump start my Steve Morse chops?
Ironically I just bought that same axe. However I didn’t like the pickups right away and switched them out for Utopia and Air Norton. Its the thinnest neck I’ve ever played and I’m still not used to it.
Wow Uncle Benny Bob, That's quite the Earwig of a melody you've put together there; Boss. Right up there with "Bernard Herrmann's Twisted Nerve" Yikes.. LOL Yup this one is twisted fingers for me. Thanks Boss you are appreciated
BENELLER, When you play scales/3 or 4 note groupings like this what is it called? Because Robert Fripp specialized in doing this but never knew the musical term of playing note groups like this. The concept is play 3 or 4 notes FORWARD and the next 3 or 4 notes play them INVERTED or REVERSE? but this should have a musical term for doing this
Thanks for learning the best workout I’ve seen in YEARS! Get the tab, practice tracks, and guitar pro files here: www.patreon.com/posts/120163109?
Hey Ben, My Wife and I got tickets to see Andy Wood at the Guitar Sanctuary in March. I take it you will be there?
Just realized I've been watching Ben for over 12 yearz
Lordy we old
0:16 this sounds like a you just discovered a cursed item on the super Nintendo.
Hahaha I can see that
Good job! You just summoned Cthulhu.
It's ok, he's wearing Panama pants.
@@Guitarisforgrins must be his day off…
100 points awarded to Ben Eller for the Batman Returns shirt.
"Rejected King Crimson riff" is a totally accurate way of describing this
A humbucker and a singlecoil, superstrat body, 24 frets and reverse headstock on a maple neck...thats the best shredder combo ever
well... the pickups are both humbuckers. the one at the neck just has a singlecoil format
I used to own one of these. I miss it. It was probably the best guitar i ever owned
I can now no longer unhear this.
My favorite part of Mr. Eller’s instructional videos? His mastery of the English language of course! Not only am I learning some sick licks, but he’s saving me time as well! Thanks Mr. Eller!
More Better..
This a very good exercise, I've been doing a very similar variant over the last couple of months and seen massive improvement in my fretting, picking accuracy and speed for arpeggios.
14:48 thanks uncle Ben and Ed for the skin capo...that simple trick has instantly made my playing much more gooder 😀
Cheers 🍻
Great one, thx for the class❤
love the beat you put on this lol you went all in!!
I have that model in the "Vampire Kiss" paintjob. Love it. Love it. LOVE IT. Fav guitar.
Man I want that one… and the orange one… and the new desert sun yellow one…
@@BenEller owner of an orange one here, it's very orange
me too love this guitar
UB, you’re the best on the net!
Awww thanks
Thanks so much, Uncle Ben
niceeee your first vid with the new congrats rick graham had this color guitar and it mesmerized me
Great video, Ben.
Suggestion for a algorhythm: Show this damn channel to more Shredawans! The Force is strong with Uncle Master Ben.

Nope! I'll stay a begintermediate player, thanx! I started to play this, my fish went belly up and my cat threw up on my shoe.......just NOPE!!
Not the pets! Oh no!
@@BenEller I think I did it wrong🤣
Ben, I have to agree, this is a wicked cool exercise, and one I've now added to my daily workout, too. Really works those fingers like never before.
This video was more better than other videos on the webs. Flock O guitars aside, Mate, you really have acquired quite the Gaggle O amps that any step dad would be proud of, I guess selling the step kids paid off.
I feel like this is transition music in goosebumps while the kid is running away from something.
Hahahaha
The warm exercise sounds like riffs from Dream Theater!
Endless sacrifice middle section, that’s a good ear!
Oh ya… this is gonna kick my ass for sure
Would be great if you shared more chugging exercises like the one a few weeks back that shifted rhythms across 4 positions. Im still playing that one daily!
Cool exercise. Feels a lot like an arpeggio version of the Satriani chord relay warmup. Thanks!
Definitely trying this one. That’s cool.
I was immediately able to play "South of Heaven" cleanly after this excercise, thanks Unc!
ill add this to the list, i still do the "punisher" exercise you did a video on a few years back!
This is exactly what I needed. I’ve been stuck with The Glass Prison arpeggios getting them up to speed. Hopefully this helps
Well, this is definitely my new warmup now. Thanks Uncle Ben! 🥳
I’ve been using this for years, a friend of mine in highschool showed it to me and called it the “X pattern” scale that we’d always try to jam somewhere into a song.
Thanks Uncle Ben! Now I need the superstrat to go with it!! 😮
Excellent!

Sick RG!
This has big 'John Petrucci's Rock Discipline' vibes
I have that same guitar in my collection. Very thin neck profile. They play like butter.
I’m gonna work on this when I get home cause I think it could help my dexterity a bunch. Getting old sucks!
Kookie like a Kookaburra, tight like a tiger! Thanks Uncle Ben
Time for a Crimson session now, cheers.
Oh wow! How is the new RG? The desert yellow one jumped out to me most from their new lineup!
Cool blue guitar
Best one so far...
Great exercise! Ben, have you ever played a QX52? The neck on the QX is amazing. Nice axe BTW!
No I haven’t, what’s that??
In my ears what I hear is a banjo playing the lines, so to me it sounds like a Béla Fleck song! haha so i loved it! Thanks!
Ooh I love that guitar
Digging the shirt
Classic!!!
That RG ❤❤❤
The title on that sheet music 😂
Another awesome vid Ben. But we need more vids on the guitars you play. This reissue is a killer Ibanez plus we need more vids on your 7’s like the universe you acquired 🎉
Uncle Ben, tapping into some dream theater vibes
Crushing Day!
You caught it!
KILLER shirt!
Woah this is brilliant, fingers don't know what hit 'em, damn pinky still going for the sky though 🤯
That was fookin interesting ❤
The ToNe ;()
Bennyyyyyy -don't wanna go to schooool today..!
bro that shirt is amazing!
That’s awesome
Great exercise! What’s the song played when “weekend wankshop” pops up? You got some tunes inside ya ….why not release some? The one you did for the Astro 20 demo rocked!
Thank you! I’ve not released that one yet, it’s called Dropkicks. Release coming soon!
Mates, that's given me the boak! I cannae dae it!
This sounds like what I used to play (many years ago) when bandmates were arguing
“It sounds like Robert Fripp taking a 💩, right?”
😂😂😂😂😂
And I am looking g forward to working on this. 👍🏼
I will probably head to the bathroom as soon as I try this crazy thing... why do we do these things to ourselves? I know, we are happy when we can get through it correctly... glad that I take "step dad speed" as my goal! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🔥
Finally a decent follow up to ”the punisher”! 😂
Oh it’s also quite punishing.
I haven't practiced yet and I already feel hurt. Thank you, Uncle! Mom says "Hi" :D
Lolol… Fripp would be proud!

My GF is gonna love this one!
It’s a real toe tapper!
Patreon dollars well spent for this gem.
Great, I can annoy the wife with this, until she hits me with my own guitar books. Cheers Ben 😂 👍
I learnt that first part of the warm up exercise from Rock Discipline, but used to sweep it. Do you recon alt picking it would jump start my Steve Morse chops?
Damn, almost as if you know I'd ask, you already talk about it in the middle of the video
Amazing guitar! I always wanted one since the early 90's. I have the orange one. Did you see the 2025 RG 565?
I have orange as well. I see they have a desert yellow now.
The new Robert Fripp's riff just has been born
Hey Uncle Ben! There’s a typo on the video title! My hands are finally warm though! Thanks!!
Hahahaha I was homeschooled!
Ironically I just bought that same axe. However I didn’t like the pickups right away and switched them out for Utopia and Air Norton. Its the thinnest neck I’ve ever played and I’m still not used to it.
Nice! I like the pickups ok, but they need to be PINK!!!! Got a Dimarzio Mirage set headed my way.
Thinking about playing that already has my fingers in a knot
Wow Uncle Benny Bob,
That's quite the Earwig of a melody you've put together there; Boss.
Right up there with "Bernard Herrmann's Twisted Nerve" Yikes.. LOL

@@BenEller Indeed lol/
Ben, you misspelled "Exercise" in your video title.
I was homeschooled! Heck!
0:24 why does it sound the beginning of the Erotomania solo, like before Petrucci starts to go nuts about the speed?
Digging the sucks! Straight outta practicing diminished to pentatonic and this sounds more crazier! 😢😊
That new stringboard has a lot of buzz happening, Uncle Ben.
Sounds like a blotted science part slowed down
Man id ather watch a tidy bowl cleanse commercial . Have a nice day
That exercise sounds like when the bazaar moment is revealed in a Dirty Harry movie.
Sounds like some kind of 80s-early 90s video game cut screen
Haha it really does
that pic of Fripp lolololol
I played this and the room started spinning.

"while also sounding slightly irritating like a rejected king crimson riff" 🤣
OMG 1:42
So funny! Made my day.
Sorry to hear about John Sykes . Awesome player
Sounds like a King Crimson song to me, is this a tease before you announce you're going tour with King Crimson in 2025?
Didn't have 'Ed Gein jokes' on my bingo card.
Love your vids. Please review Round And Round by RATT. Man, what an awesome rhythmic guitar. Reminds me of Jake E. Lee
How do excercises like this... translate to real world playing? like the 1 2 3 4 finger permutations? what role to they play?
My fingers became so independent that they moved out of the family home
Total Fripp vibes.
If i actually played guitar daily i think i’d get much better!
That’s a lot of the devil’s interval. Will this exercise summon demons? I’ll find out later…
