Had one of those assigned to my section when I was stationed in Germany '73-'74. Ours was a 1962 Studebaker. 6 cyl normally aspirated diesel. It had a 5 speed tranny with a transfer case that only controlled the front axle in or out. No high or low range. I remember it had an odd shift pattern for the transmission. There was an airbrake system on board, for the heavy trailers it towed. It also was able in an emergency to burn a mixture of Mogas and diesel. 70/30. Mogas was only 70 octane. Ours also had an M-60 machine gun mount above the passenger side seat. You unzipped the canvas top, and you could stand to fire the machine gun on a circular mount, giving you 360° field of fire. It was used mostly as a laundry truck to pick up our laundry in Frankfurt. The Germans hated that thing because the 8" exhaust pipe came out between the right sets of dual tires blasting smoke right in windows of passenger cars.
Thanks for sharing! Later on during this same drive I was in a left turn lane and pulled up next to a Tesla with it's windows down... the driver became very acquainted with this vehicle's exhaust system! 😂 This truck also has a set of Lockers for the front wheels, I'll have to do a Short... She's put up for the winter now and my shop isn't heated but I'm working on some content ideas for this Spring.
Thanks. Great video and memories.
Nice ride🫶🏻

Nice looking toy 👍
It sure is!
You should have a German Shepard or Lab ride along !
On the list come Spring!
I gave the thumbs up... But, post another clip of views of the outside driving, turning, driving past, etc ... 👍
I agree and thanks! I borrowed a GoPro mount last minute for this drive and hopefully Santa is bringing some goodie’s for what’s coming in 2025!
