the first one omggg!!! i’ll never understand why extreme treatment such as hospitalisation is only put into place when you’re considered u derweight it’s so awful
It's so dangerous that they actually turn away people if they aren't "skinny enough" or "underweight". Doctors telling people with EDs that is only going to make the ED worse
Atypical AN definitely needs binning, I think Australia has been the first country to remove BMI from their diagnostic criteria - I'm sure I saw a post about it the other day. You're right, it's incredibly harmful to invalidate sufferers based on BMI, early intervention would be far easier to implement of that part of the DSM5 was to be removed. Totally agree with not sharing restrictive WIEIADs, also if they start with a bodycheck 🙄 You're always so considerate with what you post, thank you for keeping your accounts safe spaces x
The fact that Atypical Anorexia is still a thing is so messed up. My Anorexia wasn't considered Atypical, however, the moment I started regaining weight my doctor stopped caring about me and didn't want to see me anymore when I was still very medically dangerous (my eating disorder has caused longer-term heart issues). They just said "well you've gained weight back. You've healed".... like weight isn't everything and it needs to stop being seen as the end all be all.
As someone who was diagnosed with atypical anorexia in 2022 and felt really invalidated because of it, thank you for this video. I felt incredibly ashamed and embarrassed when I received my diagnosis, as I was under the impression that I had somehow "failed" at having an eating disorder. I really do think it's a harmful and quite frankly unnecessary diagnosis that needs to go.
your channel is a breath of fresh air. i was diagnosed anorexic at 8 years old and im 21 now and still struggling. ive been jailed 5 times and that is definitely not helping. highly caloric yet no nutritional value. youre hungrier than if you were just to starve yourself. its one big mindfuck. i love the way you speak of EDs. youre very considerate
I went to the GP as a 17 year old having spent the 12 months before living off lettuce and half a weetabix exercising multiple times a day About 3 weeks before I went to the GP, I got really ill and I started bingeing daily. GP didn't pick up on it, and now here I am 10 years later still living with ED's. I really hope GP's knowledge and awareness has improved in this time.
the atypical tag-on is so contradictory to the fact that eating disorders are *mental* not physical, especially given that most people with an eating disorder don't have AN at all and even then most with AN don't reach a very low BMI, thus creating a cycle of 'not sick enough' thoughts and people not getting the treatment they deserve. anyway, love love love your channel (here from TikTok!) its getting me through a rough patch as im due to start AN treatment in the next few weeks while in my first year of university aaa!! xx
I have anorexia and have never been underweight or even a low healthy weight but I still got diagnosed with anorexia nervosa in June 2023 so it is definitely changing! :) atypical anorexia should definitley go!!
I actually got diagnosed with atypical an when i first was impatient in hospital. I was oblivious to calories, it was just about food restriction. However i felt like my feelings were being dimished especially as because i didnt know about calories i was asking for tea when i was there, one of the nurses called it weird as most people with anorexia wouldn't do that, this made me feel horrible and odd so i ended up staying sick and learning about calories, fats developed fear foods ect, (i am almost recovered now) but it was so unhelpful to hear that.
Anorexia is really difficult to diagnose not just because of the criteria but because if diagnosed as a kid or teen this diagnosis can affect your whole life. I have anorexia nervosa, and i won't be able to get life ensurance when i go on holiday because im at risk. They gave me help and therapy for my eating disorder and treated me like i had anorexia until they had to diagnose me due to physical health and have always given me help before and after. I am very lucky to of had and contuinue to have a good experience that i have ❤
thank you for talking about triggers and taking personal responsibility. i feel like although some creators can post unnecessary content designed to trigger a vulnerable audience, often it is down to the individual. for example I, myself can sometimes get triggered in seeing other people in real life who are in a smaller body and that is all down to me, they haven’t done anything wrong therefore they are not to blame, i recognise that this is a problem that I have and that I need to work on.
I agree with all these topics. Yes, the WIEIAD videos are harmful and helpful. I try to only watch the creators that I know will be helpful to me, so I can focus on getting inspiration for recipes.

Not only that.. its also horrible to be rejected 5help because your bmi is TOO low

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Atypical Anorexia shouldn't be considered a thing anymore

You always speak so much sense, Meg.

Yeah like the period in my ED when I was restricting and over exercising the most was when I was the biggest because my metabolism was so effed
this is irrelevant but you have great taste in books
Thank you 🤣 always relevant!
