To clarify, Tanjiro learned the Hinokami Kagura from his father at some point during his childhood, hence the reason he inherited the Hanafuda Earrings. He just forgot about it or never thought to try and apply it to swordsmanship until his life flashed before his eyes and he recalled those memories. It's also crazy to think that, despite how strong Rui was, he is the 2nd weakest of the 12 Kizuki
About 13:57: He did technically kill one of the Twelve Kizuki before running into Rui. The demon that Tanjiro killed in the mansion was the former Lower 6. It was the demon with the tsuzumis (the little hand drums) over his body and could control the rooms. That's why Tanjiro took some of his blood and sent it back to Tamayo.
Except that Lower moon wasn't as powerful as a Lower Moon, it was just below that. Since Muzan thought he'd grow strong enough to be among the Twelve, but when the demon couldn't, he just got booted off.
This was the only thing I remember crying for in the past 5 years. Read the Manga, saw the future of the anime because of it, and yet still the cinematography was absolutely unmatched. Has to be one of my favorite moments of anime I've ever seen. Seeing it is one thing. Building the bond with these characters and having this moment, seeing them support each other and risk it all in the name of their bond and to a being which, at the time, seemed to have unimaginable power. (ironically enough proving rui wrong about his ideals of a sibling) was masterful. 🥺🙏
Theres a lesson for the whole series ... If you want to encounter a twelve kizuki go with tanjiro because wherever tanjiro goes theres always an lower moon or upper moon
