I love hearing these two artists just talk about what they like and what excites them. I could watch them for hours. I saw Annie Baker's THE FLICK in NYC and it was MAJOR. she is such a brilliant creative voice right now. love seeing this. thanks criterion.

Design for Living is Ernst Lubitsch/Gary Cooper at their best. Glad it's gotten picked from the closet guests a couple times now.

it's a shame that there are so many negative comments about this video being "boring."
I am happy to hear both Annie and Lucian's thoughts about the movies they love and how they look at them as filmmakers.
Especially because they offer unique perspectives as playwright and editor.

I wish you could show trailers over the audio of the movies they talk about. Seeing a piece of the film would really help decide what I want to seek out from these.

I've always wondered: what specific movies are in the collection for each guest. Does it change or does the closet contain every movie in the Criterion Collection. I've actually uploaded a list of every film part of the Criterion and went thru and picked out movies that I would select if I was invited to the Criterion closet! I know that sounds crazy lol.

People in the film industry seem to have a natural gift for oxymorons. This film is so AMBIGUOUS followed by so BLUNT. It is something that just amuses my very limited brain, probably as it is so common and paradoxical; both the behaviour and my brain.

I think this video shows you the side of filmmaking that's very very articulate and yet lack of a better expression sanitized. I'm pretty sure if you are a film student or behind the scenes writer, it'll be more like a classroom than a casual outing. I won't go as far to say it's boring, but it's not the usual fandom experience.

Criterion is doing an awfully good job at encouraging viewers to abandon these videos by continuing to bring in filmmakers who seem incapable of speaking without using the word “like” as a placeholder in ALMOST EVERY SENTENCE. There may be nothing that makes a person sound more brainless than that particular habit. Between the two of them, they use “like” 42 (!) times in a grammatically incorrect way.

Typical pretentious film fans over analyzing a film. Just say you like it and carry on. I bet they're the common Criterion Collection fans, they buy the films only when Barnes & Nobles has a 50% sale & keep them sealed, never watch them, pretend they saw it or stream it online.

It is reached the point where I am unable to stomach the number of "like" thrown in to every sentence. It is jarring to hear such monotonous language. Of course, it all started in 'merka but has travelled the globe. Sad.
