Most of that generation are gone or will be soon. They had a desire to serve, and they did. A serving heart is one of the greatest gifts anyone can have, and I hope our youth can be as brave when they need to be. God bless❤
You are so right! I grew up watching James Garner. I lost my father last year at 86. He served in Vietnam and Korea. Pops was in the military for 23.5yrs. A wonderful generation of people and proud to have been raised by them!
My dad was deemed unfit to be in the service ( hi B/P, flat feet). He kept trying. Then the Army accused him of making his B/P high. Kept him at Camp Perry in Ohio for a month. They realized that he was not deliberately making his blood pressure go high. Finely tpwards the end of WWII, they needed men. My daddy was on the Air Craft carrior The US Yorktown. (IT is in SC. My family finally got to see were was at in the war. He died at age 48 on Veterns day, 1969. I am 63 and still miss him terribly. I was his right hand and went everywhere with him. Thank you actors and actresses for your service.
Always great vignettes, you learn amazing facts about these people whether they are famous or not! We owe them all, more than we can ever give back to them for what they did for us!
A Huge Thank You and a Salute to all of these Brave Heroes. Were it not for them, and all of the other Courageous Americans who fought for our freedom, we would not be so fortunate as to enjoy the liberties that we have today. Again, Thank You to those who came before us and sacrificed all for the United States of America. We are all in your debt for eternity.
I can not imagine the spoiled "stars" of today having the integrity and courage to serve their country. Their contribution to the world is confined to wearing ribbons for whatever is the current "cause of the moment", while attending award shows to congratulate themselves.
I served my ten years in service (4 years US Airforce, then 6 years US Navy) all in peacetime, so I've always looked up to these celebrities who served during wartime, especially those who saw combat. They were truly a different breed from today's spoiled "stars". They put lucrative careers on hold to serve their nation. I hold these men and women in the highest regard! 👍😎🇺🇸
Thank-you for including James Doohan. Far too often, Canada is overlooked in stories about the war, and our veterans forgotten by the Western world. Yet, we liberated the Netherlands , had the 3rd Largest navy in the world, and, on D-Day, we advanced farther inland and achieved more of our objectives than any other Allied force. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I'm a specwar vet who's very appreciative of what the "Greatest Generation" did for us all. Truly remarkable men & women during that time. HOO-YAH & God Bless them all.
Who would have thought that humble, humorous, and mild-mannered, James Garner had seen so much action? As a side note, The United States Merchant Marine had the highest casualty rate of all US forces, including the Marine Corps, in WWII. Just a big shout-out to the USMM.
We're gonna start doing weekly compilations like this! Btw, if you're a history buff, you'll love our new book for sure: rb.gy/w77x1w or www.thisdate.com
If you’ve wondered whythey call them the greatest generation, 17:56 this should be your answer. For what they did for world in the sense of peace and security, they really should have been given a free ride in life, instead they built the countries that they came from. Something we will never see again, what they did is the foundation of the freedom and opportunity we have today and yes I know it’s not perfect but the alternative would have been so much worse. To all involved I that you for your service not only for your country but for all mankind !
*Just over a thousand women became ferry pilots during WWII so as to free up men to fly overseas because the attrition rate for new pilots in a frontline combat role was horrendous. They not only ferried brand new planes from the various factories where they were assembled, but more than a handful became wartime test pilots for brand new, never before flown aircraft. They flew every type of plane in the American inventory. In addition, the best of them ferried planes across the Atlantic Ocean to air bases in Ireland, Scotland, and England, as well as across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii.*
I saw Neville Brand in a lot of movies but the line from "Tora Tora Tora is the one I most remember, "You wanted confirmation? Well, there's your confirmation." Indicating the attack on Pearl Harbor just outside the window.
These early actors and actresses were really some kick ass solders. Now they’re nothing but a whole bunch of useless empty souls who would never ever even consider serving there country or anything else other themselves. Hollywood is filled with a whole bunch of nothings.
The problem i have with wars like korea and vietnam and iraq they were not wars defending our freedom but others even so our brave gave their very best
As a veteran myself, I truly admire and honor all of those famous & humble actors & actresses that served our country. A big salute to all of them! 👍👍
Thank you for your service

I love hearing the narrator's voice
Thanks!!!!

Yup!!!!!!
It's impossible to tell that James Garner took shrapnel to the face, it must have been a glancing blow so to speak
Very glancing. Handsome man!
These early actors and actresses were really some kick ass solders. Now they’re nothing but a whole bunch of useless empty souls who would never ever even consider serving there country or anything else other themselves. Hollywood is filled with a whole bunch of nothings.
So true! Check out our video on Charles Bronson: ua-cam.com/video/19wD_LhS-D8/v-deo.html
Is there a single actor now who served within the past 50 years? Maybe that’s why Hollywood is the way it is.
Not many. Adam Driver I think, and Rob Riggle.
Are you forgetting Drew Carrie , USMC ?
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
USMC 72-76, Semper Fi
Semper Fi!
Very interesting, unfortunately I was distracted at 15:53.
Haha marissa!
Audrey suffered malnutrition and anemia during the occupation of Holland.
True:We did a longer video on her and other heroes: ua-cam.com/video/9IV0ti6LYWs/v-deo.html
