    Thanks so much. I just wanted to fix my front door air vent and you helped me to get to it without damaging anything. Great video!

    ...don't forget the dreaded phillips-head screw that's hiding in the upper ventilation duct where it meets the body of the car! (I learned the hard way) :( Thanks for the video!

      I should have read the comments instead of watching the video. I thought it was a stuck plug and ripped the air duck screw (which you mentioned) straight through the door panel. To the OP: If you're going to make a DIY movie, at least tell all the steps.

    I don't kmow why I clicked your video, as I know how to remove the panel and the two screws ie: door's air vent screw and door's handle screw. But I will give a pointer; when you remove the panel, do NOT remove the window switchs, otherwise you're risking piercing and or ripping the leather of the door. Unless your replacing the panel. Once you have the door panel off from the door,, you can simply slip your hand very carefully reach down behind the panel stick your fingers behind the window switches/mirror and apply pressure to get the unit out from the panel. I replace all speakers in my 2001 E39 530, I got some top of the line speakers from Crutchfield. If you do replace your speakers, make sure you tell the agent whatode of nav system your Bimmer has. I have the MKlll. You may have MKl, MKll, MKlll or MKIV. The mext thing on my list is to upgrade my MKlll to the latest NKIV, it's very easy to upgrade. Especially if you have the same nave as my Bimmer, because all you have to do is buy the MKIV computer, remove the nav computer from the trunk by disconnecting 2 wire harnesses and the GPS antenna. It is totally a plug and play im pretty sure if you dont have the factory big screen head unit as I do, but I'd not you may need to the the same head unit as my e39 has, the big screen unit, NOT THE SMALL SQUARE SCREEN. And make sure to buy the real BMW nav disc as those sold on eBay can crash your computer.

    You cheated by not showing actual removal. I ready to remove, but can feels like something is grabbing at the top.

      The top, right where it meets the trim that stays on the door, will come out once you pull on it.

    is the top part of the panel that matches the dash panel(right on top of trim) able to seperate from the rest of the door ? im asking because i only want to dash to black and keep the rest beige

      @E39Source  8 років тому

      +m demis I do not believe that the pieces are able to be separated.

    not bad, what I found hard though was the wire harness for the buttons dont just come out there are lock mechenisms that remove a certain way, you skipped that whole part lol. also I had an additional screw in my air vent. 2000 528i

    Did this car not have the side airbags in the door? If i am not mistaken they were standard 2000 and on.. I have a window off track and love the video..

    One thing you failed to mention, there is a small Phillips Head screw inside the AC vent the panel can not successfully be removed without removing that screw. Thank you for your post, I R & Rd my panel but didn't reconnect my remote mirror for the driver's side mirror. Doing it again tomorrow thanks.

    I had an E39 528i few years ago. And I pretty much had to do the same work, exept I changed all the interior form light gray to sandbeige. So that means I had to change all the interior parts, mid console and all the plastic which used to be gray to beige. It was a killerwork to find all those pieces I need.
    I bought an E39 again 2 weeks ago, this time it's a Touring an 530d M-pack. The car is totally awesome but the interior is quite noisy. the door panel clips need's to be changed and I have to find out, what's wrong in the boot,

    I have all black interior, but the prior owner let his dog loose in the car and it chewed up the front and rear passenger door panels, center console, and e-brake handle. So, thanks for the DIY!

    Thanks for the vid. At first I thought 20 minutes? You're having a laugh! But, you're right! Easy job when you know how. Just remember the extra screw in the air vent! 2000 facelift 530d.

    battery unplugged?
    How much did the tools cost?

    • @e39source87
      @e39source87 10 років тому

      No need to disconnect the battery. You can get away with changing door panels with only a few screwdrivers. Plastic pry tools are better, and can be found for under $20 on Amazon or a hardware store.

    I wish you didn't skip the part where the door-panels where put back in place. It's a living hell putting them back on. Once I fasten one of them, another one pops off. Is there any tricks for fixing that?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  9 років тому

      Dwight David Eisenhower You've got to fairly lay the top part in place first, letting the door lock poke through the hole Then press fir the top of the panel before starting on the other rivets around the car.

    do you have to open the door first?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  7 років тому

      Yes. But- if your latch is broken and the door is stuck shut, you can try removing it from the inside. You'll be unable to remove a screw by the vent, but you can still get it off without totally destroying it.
