    I just picked up a Signal Peak and I'm loving it. I saw your vid and immediately had a brief twinge of doubt thinking that I missed something... fortunately the title was just a marketing draw (which worked by the way). I agree with pretty much everything you said. I don't really have a current interest in bombing downhill so this Signal Peak has been more than adequate for everything I've been able to throw at it. I was coming from a 2000 Cannondale FS900X, so pretty much everything has changed in mountain bikes in the time I've had that bike. My biggest challenge has actually been relearning how to ride, and to keep my weight centered over the bike instead of shifting my weight to the back over the rear time. Anyway, thanks for the review. And I'm eyeing that upgraded shock combo now.

    Good review and video!
    I have the 2020 Signal Peak. I tested about 12 bikes and decided on the Signal Peak. The Ripley and the Intense Sniper XC were a little lighter and a little better climbers but not by much. The Ripley also had a more plush feel but wasn't what I was after. It was the best compromise for the trails I ride and for the way I like to ride. I live in Prescott and also bike in Sedona, so I have a Pike 140mm up front to give the extra stiffness and travel for when I go to Sedona. The head angle with this fork is 66 degrees. Perfect for me. I run 27.5 rims and Specialized Purgatory 2.6 tires, 165mm GX cranks, Shimano XT 4pot brakes and 180 rotors front and back. It's now the bike I always wanted. Low center of gravity makes it great on the corners and the larger fork is perfect for those Sedona days. For me, I made the bike into something that can do almost everything well. It's still only 115mm in the back so I maxed out the volume spacers and made it progressive. It feels much better this way to me. I am glad I got this version of the bike since the newer ones are 29'ers only and no flip chip. I noticed a big difference when I kept the flip chip in the low position and put on light weight 27.5 rims/tires. It feels more like I have always wanted a bike to feel. Fun, agile, fast and can take a beating (within reason).

    Love that color on the bike. I got my boy that same bike amd color to race with. He loves it. But we have the sid suspension on it. For what you get from fezzari on the bikes it's a pretty good deal. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another bike from them.

    I miss those S Cal trails! Moved to Boise about 20 years ago. We got pro rider Kyle Warner here who just got sponsored by Fezzari. I wonder if he'll get one of those into his quiver.

    I've got 12 bikes right now so of course an XC bike is part of the herd.
    That being said, it totally depends on where you live, what kind of riding you want to do, and if you are doing (or even have) XC races.
    I'm with Mo on lockout - just for pavement, I have not found it really helps on modern efficient suspensions - I'll take the traction.

      Seems like lockout would be great for race starts and fire road transitions in races.. I use mine all the time, but mine is 3 step and I swap between open and mid mainly.

    Coming from a road racing background I'm trying to get into mtb but have no idea what type of bike to get for the east coast where I live. It's nothing hut constant greasy rock gardens and log overs with climb after climb. Would an xc bike or a trail bike or a enduro bike or a downcountry bike be the better option for someone who likes to go fast?

    • @matthew8596
      @matthew8596 5 місяців тому

      if you like going fast than an enduro bike, but if the climbs are really steep then a 140-150 travel trail bike

    What was the build weight on this? Pivot Trail 429 has been my go to all day backcountry steed lately, u give up a tiny bit in the chunk but everywhere else it's totally dialed.

    Why do you care so much about what you are wearing. Nobody cares. Just ride the bike and have fun. FYI you are more of a badass if you underbike. Its also so much more fun.
