This is a great film. What a great tribute to a RR man. As a railroader myself today who just barely remembers the 80's, many of these scenes remind me of my time around Dad on the SOU/early NS as a kid. These were the men we could only dream of being today! And some nice old school RR ladies in this film too!
Awsome video David, Love those old machines. I only got to work withose type of machines back in 1996 for about 6 month before they went to computers. I loved the retirement wishes and sorry to here that Larry is gone now. Well done man.
I got stuck on the Seligman West Subdiv that also dispatched the Phoenix, Parker Sub and Clarkdale Subs and it was very busy for all that territory under one dispatcher. LGS Retired since Dec 1998. I am in this video. LGS
Aww man, I'd give about anything to be back in an old school office like this listening to the machine relays clicking away, radio blaring, train orders going out... Oh well, time marches on I guess.
David this is Larry Gillespie's granddaughter amber. He passed away in February and we just found this video today and I was wondering where I could get the full video at. This brings back alot of memories for my family and I and I would really like a copy of it. I was 5 when he retired and I remember the party a little bit, but I would really like a copy of this video. If you could message me with how I could get one that would be great. Thank you
we had a lot of thee type of machines when i hired on conrail, i can say 1 thing they worked a lot better than the computer stuff they now use, with the computer stuff today, just adverse weather will screw them all up, not a day goes by today were they they are always calling out the signal maintainers 24-7, they got what they paid for,JUNK.

Wonderful glimpse into the real human world of railroading, and a dispatcher's farewell to it. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video. It provided a glimpse into a different side of railroading.

Cool old school defect detector around the 7:10 mark. Didn't know ATSF detectors said a station name.
