Amarillo Santa Fe RR Dispatcher's Office 1985 - Revised
The Amarillo video was shot in 1985 by Larry Cole. The full video version was made in 1992 for retiring dispatcher Larry Gillespie. The video is interesting as it includes many voices of people wishing Larry well and has video of the Albuquerque office (now closed) as well.

Sarge!
I got stuck on the Seligman West Subdiv that also dispatched the Phoenix, Parker Sub and Clarkdale Subs and it was very busy for all that territory under one dispatcher. LGS Retired since Dec 1998. I am in this video. LGS
Thank you so much for posting this video. Got to see my grandpa Harol Beevers doing what he loved.
At least he was a white boy lmao
we had a lot of thee type of machines when i hired on conrail, i can say 1 thing they worked a lot better than the computer stuff they now use, with the computer stuff today, just adverse weather will screw them all up, not a day goes by today were they they are always calling out the signal maintainers 24-7, they got what they paid for,JUNK.
This is a great film. What a great tribute to a RR man. As a railroader myself today who just barely remembers the 80's, many of these scenes remind me of my time around Dad on the SOU/early NS as a kid. These were the men we could only dream of being today! And some nice old school RR ladies in this film too!
David, I have enjoyed this video. One question though, was the dispatchers located in Las Vegas, NM when you were working??
+Christopher Clipper No...they were in Amarillo, Clovis, and Euless when I started dispatching in 1972.
+David Howard Ok thanks!! It's good to see some old Santa Fe. I lived by Mormon Yard, Stockton, CA. The dispatchers office was in Fresno, Ca. I knew some people that worked at Stockton Tower. I remember when Santa Fe went to that same set up in San Berdoo like they did in Albuquerque.
Aww man, I'd give about anything to be back in an old school office like this listening to the machine relays clicking away, radio blaring, train orders going out... Oh well, time marches on I guess.
Wonderful glimpse into the real human world of railroading, and a dispatcher's farewell to it. Thanks for sharing.
Can you turn off the UA-cam Stabilizer??? It makes the video look awful.
+BBT609 Revised and done!
+David Howard thanks! in older videos, its classic to see the shakiness ;)
Cool old school defect detector around the 7:10 mark. Didn't know ATSF detectors said a station name.
Excellent video. It provided a glimpse into a different side of railroading.
Awsome video David, Love those old machines. I only got to work withose type of machines back in 1996 for about 6 month before they went to computers. I loved the retirement wishes and sorry to here that Larry is gone now. Well done man.
David this is Larry Gillespie's granddaughter amber. He passed away in February and we just found this video today and I was wondering where I could get the full video at. This brings back alot of memories for my family and I and I would really like a copy of it. I was 5 when he retired and I remember the party a little bit, but I would really like a copy of this video. If you could message me with how I could get one that would be great. Thank you
