    If someone snatches my purse, they will be sorely disappointed. If I even have a purse, it is only for show, because it completes my outfit. I may have a tissue, a file, of a some lip balm in there. They can have it. Anything of value will be somewhere else completely.

    If one is a "native speaker", one can actually have many more sources of employment. Good jobs to apply for are in the Hospitality business. As we all know, the DR is a tourism destination for millions of North Americans and Europeans.. There are literally thousands of hotels and inns jobs that require a second language, be it English, French, or German, -- not to mention that DR is also a magnet for Spaniards and Italians.!Airline reservationists and tour guides, are also wanting of personnel. The one drawback is that many of these jobs do not pay as well as a similar position in other countries. But, then again, housing, utilities, and food (if you know where to shop) are much cheaper than in the US or the rest of the Caribbean. How do I know.? I've traveled around a bit. Presently I'm living in Santo Domingo, mostly.. Oh, and I'm a Native-born Dominican...

    Your videos are great information. I'm planning a move to either Costa Rica or the Dominican Republic in the next 24 months. I am lucky enough to be retired but my spouse is not and we still want to work maybe teaching English. What TEFL program did you use for your certification?

      Well some names of schools in Santo Domingo are Dominicano Americano, Progressive English Services (P.E.S) and Academia Europea. I'm sure there's more but those are the big ones in the capital.

    No disrespect but I have lived in D.R. before and paying over $500 per month is normally what happens to foreigners. That is what you call Gringo prices. Most Dominicans can't afford those prices and don't pay that. Look around you should never pay over $500.

    Everybody says that you shouldnt be outside walking around when its dark. I feel imprisoned once it gets dark. Did you never went outside walking when it was dark? How are you supposed to go to bars or enjoy the nightlife if you cant walk outside when its dark?

    • @FranklinNJ
      @FranklinNJ 7 років тому +4

      What it means is the same as any other place, you call a taxi and he will pick you up and drop you off door to door, so that you are not an easy target. Don't go to ATM late at night, use your common sense, avoid putting yourself in situations that can give opportunists muggers a chance to hold you up.

    • @vconsumer
      @vconsumer 7 років тому

      Thanks for the answer. I didn't have so much experience with dangerous countries. And the thing with the taxis is that you need a lot of money to do that, which I don't have. However, it's been 4 months now and if you get to know the city you know where you can walk. As long as there are a lot of people and lights its okay. We've been at every hour outside in the city walking and nothing ever happened. So as long as you move in a safe area its all good

      Kia K-5 2012 goes for $12,000 easy finance $200-$250 per month. Korean cars like Hyundia and Kia are the most popular because they come factory LPG which is clean gas and half the price as regular gasoline. LPG is $2.20 US regular gas is $4.20 US.

      Santiago is the second largest city. It's cheaper to live in Santiago. There are decent hotels for reasonable prices. The Capital has many more options as far as restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, bars etc..
