I demoed this the day it came out and while it’s on sale for $119 I’m gonna get it. It’s SUPER smooth. I only tried it on my vocals and I’m very impressed. Compared to other plugins geared towards overall vocals this is the best and I like the Howard Benson’s vocal plugin and the CLA Vox plugin and I have many plugins that are designed strictly for vocals and this Al Schmidt is the truth
the body and air, I almost sure is based on the favorite settings of Al`s hands on a Pultec, the vocals sound like a 100hz on a Pultec (a very smooth) Im not a big fan of this kind of plugins, but sounds really good!
For those wondering, this plugin does *not* have an FX send mode so you can mix the reverb separately. Which is a shame, why I didn’t buy it. Even a reverb solo and mix control would accomplish this but alas, even the manual states it’s designed to be insert only. A missed opportunity on Leapwings part :/
When I met Al back in 2000, he was such a great guy. We were walking out of the studio in Glendale we were at to head to Capital A to record orchestra. AL says, "You know all 4 of my ex wives were great house keepers". And that is it He was funny.
I think the compressor does the job really good on vocals. If you make a record and just use this, ppl will not realize and no one will have any idea how you did it.

Be nice to mention what it replaces and what you don’t need to do if using this plug. What’s the benefit over the usual tools. Clarity is one but what else? Thanks
This is aimed more towards not too experienced mixers, you have a fool proof good sounding compression that you simply can't mess up, will it be the absolute best and perfect one for everything? No but on a decently recorded vocals for example, it's a very safe bet and it actually sounds really nice, same for eq. I personally don't like to put time effects in insert (verbs, delays) but other might, so you have basically a channel strip, that'd be for vocals which I think is where this shines the most.

This is based/modeled after Al's own sets of tools, so it's very specific to the compressors he used, the way he used it, to the chambers at Capitol etc... So yes they do the same things but just like an LA2A and an 1176 both compress the signal, they couldn't be more different

And to think, a while back, some unscrupulous toe-rag was trying to steal your channel. Not every youtube channel is worthy it's number of subs, because they pander to the 'clickverse', and pedal mindless dross. But this channel has bags of integrity. In my own humble opinion
Exactly as you said, smoooooth and natural!!. Really nice!!. So rare to hear a plug that doesn't over do every parameter, ie: eq & compression. Cranking high eq that doesn't spear your ear, that's rare!. The compressor is crazy smooth!.....wondering if it's modeled on an old tube comp?, Fairchild??. See if Leapwing would spill the beans on their attack & release settings ;:-) ..........."Processing that doesn't sound like processing". Perfect description ;:-) I've had the privilege to sit at Capitol over the years with some engineers, and have them demo the underground chambers and plates, and this verb is pretty damn sweet! :-) .....Al wouldn't put his name on a verb that wasn't an authentic beautiful statement !. ................congrats on hitting 100K ! :-)
I demoed this and found it wasn't worth it..I love Al Schmitt but I don't find this tool all that useful to me anyway..the voc module is the best..I find this would prob be better if you mixed more Al type material..pop singers with horns and strings etc..there are so many of these one sound fits all tools out there....I prefer to use individual tools so I have more control over all aspects of my mix, so I'll pass on this one.
Thanks for the demo but to be honest, I think this works nice on acoustic material but I think this isn't the plugin to use on heavier stuff. Maybe I will demo it but I like to tweak stuff. To me it is a bit of plugin for people who are not so known with EQing and comping. I think it can be a great tool to use but for heavier music I think it doesn't really apply.

Really love the instant-gratification reverb and delay for vocals, and all of the Air levels for my old ears.
The coloration and reverb are superb on this plugin.

I love a plug-in designed with some restraint and subtlety. It even sounds classy haha. Leapwing makes fantastic processors, I’ll be getting this 🙃

Sometimes, not on my mixes but masters for clients yes, very very VERY subtly..

Air sounds kind of nasaly imo, of course some post EQ wouldn't hurt. Reverb sounds fantastic.
