@@WhatsSoGreatAboutGaming Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful reviews and commentary. Where were you all this time?! Thank you so much! Rockstar in the making :)
Same. The replay value for this particular title is unmatched across the franchise. Everything about the game was balanced and fits. This is the 🐐 Zelda game.
@JBtheJMB84 I agree. As much as I love Ocarina of Time, that damn Water Temple is such a chore. So, its replay value for me is slightly lower than ALTTP.
This game was my Original, Childhood, "First FAVORITE Videogame". It was challenging but user friendly enough for a 4yr old (me). Otherwise, games like Megaman X and Super Metroid were just too difficult for me. Mario kart was the first "game i ever beat" at that age with the 50cc cup. I felt ao accomplished, lol.
It was such a leap forward. On the NES, it really was hard to determine if Zelda 1 was great by accident, or if this was going to be a consistent series. Zelda 3 was the first great entry where it was clear what was being depicted on screen and what was really trying to be conveyed by the dev team, and the oldest one that still holds up
I acknowledge this is a great game, the trend-setting for all Zelda games to follow (both top-down 2D, and even the 3D games to some extent). That said, for whatever reason, I have never finished it. I think the biggest issue for me, at least at first, was the length and range of the sword. My first Zelda game was Link's Awakening, and Link's sword in A Link to the Past felt far shorter and more pathetic than the starting sword in LA. Like, it never seemed to reach as far or hit enemies the way I expect or anticipated it would. Sometimes when I bring this up, people tell me you get longer swords as the game goes on, though I have to say, it was always rather annoying to deal with starting out, especially in comparison to Link's Awakening, whose sword swing felt much longer and more impactful in comparison. Having said all that, I always had a stronger affinity with this version of Hyrule compared to that seen in Ocarina of Time and beyond. It felt unique, like this was before the series started taking itself too seriously, even though it did have some darker moments. And my love for how the characters, dialogue, and settings in this game are so oddly unique that even A Link Between Worlds being designed to be reminiscent of this game can't even fully replicate. Also Link has pink hair in this game, you won't see that in any other Zelda title!
The greatest thing about this game was indeed thinking oh wow I got the Master Sword, that's fast. Then BOOM! You're in the dark world and that music slaps you in the ear. Unbelievable.
As an older gamer, one thing I definitely miss from my youth is the massive increase in capabilities from one console generation to the next. I started with Atari, and the NES was amazing, the SNES blew my tiny little teenaged mind. Now it seems we're at a point of diminishing returns. Yes, the PS5 can do things the PS4 can't, but it doesn't feel to me like the same geometric progression of earlier generations.
In A Link to the Past, Link is only left handed if he's facing left, up, or down. If he's facing right, he's right handed. The combat point is still correct, but it just flips if he's facing towards the right. This is just because they flipped the sprite for the right facing Link to save space. They didn't do this for the up and down because it would have looked really weird as the aesthetic is give us a slightly tilted top down view.
Not sure why its taken 3 years for The Algorithm to recommend me your channel, but it seems as though its happening to a few people at the moment, so good luck with the push! I have subscribed. Love this game, its been my favourite since I first played it 30 years ago ❤
Great video, it's easy to take everything a link to the past did for granted. It's so good because it respects the players intelligence while offering a superb world to explore! I'd love to hear your thoughts on some arcade games. I'm a big fan of Ms Pac-Man but anything arcade related would be super cool.
An interesting analysis of ALTTP in terms of gameplay and progression. It's interesting that there is more to Link being left-handed other than Shigeru Miyamoto himself being left-handed. This has made me want to replay this game sometime soon.
I like that you can go threw tjw dark world dungeons and collect all of theur equipment plus the tempered sword and just plow through bosses and enemies after. Its hilarious and super satisfying. Oot is the same way.
Good review. I like how Link is left handed, though I disagree that making him swing his sword is a straight upgrade; making you have to stab in 4 directions is what makes Zelda 1's combat complex. And I disagree that it's enemies are mindless. Some are, yes. But showing the Darknuts when you call its enemies mindless? Zelda 1's enemies ramp up in difficulty and it becomes more bullet hell than adventure game for some encounters
First and foremost, this was a great video. It's both well done and conveys how great the game and series truly is. However, I do have one issue with something you said. You talked about Nintendo's quality or polish, and they stood alone... This simply isn't true by any stretch. All throughout gaming's storied history, there have been developers that create games that are so incredibly polished it blows the mind. I'm talking about the Bunjies, the 343's, ID, Valve, Capcom...companies that have made games, Nintendo only fans would chew their pinky fingers off just to play on Nintendo machines. Sometimes, they get lucky, while other times, these games stay on other hardware.
I played it on the Switch for the purposes of this video, and it worked great - looked very crisp on the SNES Online app. However there is a known bug that I ran into where the Ether medallion doesn't illuminate invisible tiles as it should. Definitely led to some confusion in the last couple dungeons.
What's so great about A Link To The Past?
In a word, EVERYTHING.
Disgustingly underrated channel. Just a matter of time when it blows up.
Ha ha, I'm glad people are enjoying the videos.

So true. I already see this channel's potential
Agreed. I'm new here within the last few days, and I was really surprised to see how low the comments and likes are on the videos.
I just found this channel today , years after your post. The algorithm actually pushed me towards a good channel for once
A Link to the Past is the game that made me a Zelda fan. It was such an amazing experience to play this game in 1992. I adore this game.

I was going to say it, but someone already said it. Hence I hardly post on YT 😅
I can't wait for you to cover Chrono Trigger.
Same.
I have so much love for this game. It is perfection. This was the title that showed me there’s more to gaming than side scrolling platform games.

Thanks Ahab!

Yeah I just got recommended this channel. Pretty good.
One of my favourite video games of all time! What a masterpiece! Thanks for creating this video.
I'm still shocked on how this channel hasn't skyrocketed yet!
Another awesome upload, great job mate!

Hmm, I hadn't thought about arcade games; maybe I should look into some of those collections.

I never knew about the lantern thing. That’s awesome!
How after all these years have I never known you can get the lamp elsewhere 🤯🤯🤯
My favorite game of all time
Great video u deserve more subs and attention :D
The Golden cartridge Zelda never appealed to me. ALTTP is an absolute masterpiece that should’ve received sequels during the peak of the SNES.
Just found this channel today, what a hidden gem. Subscribed😊
Great Channel. Subbed.
Keep making videos like this and you WILL grow a large audience.
The 2nd Zelda game is still my favourite. I prefer the RPG elements of travelling to different towns and meeting people.
heeeey, Uncle doesn't die! He's in the credits!
He did break his legs jumping down a well though... classic Uncle!
Shhhh... spoilers. 🤫
This music is golden!!! I really like your channel too. I'm almost finish watching every video. 😢
Would love a Link to the Past 2nd quest.

2:50 - Preach.
Moon pearl!
Haven't replayed this in years but a great summary, some good memories here
This is one of my favorite games! A classic
they went from a turd of a game that was Zelda2(the only Zelda game I consider bad) to THIS masterpiece!
Great video! Thanks
Never have I clicked a video so fast
This channel use the quality over quantity so good
Your channel is so so fucking under rated
Underrated channel.
My first game was new super mario bros on the NES

Def an upgrade, you still have to swing your sword in 4 directions so it's not like the slashing motion now made contact definite.
TIL about the redundant lantern chests! 🤯
One of the best Zelda games, based upon the original game but just upped everything to the max. Average players could now finish Zelda without a guide
I just started a very brief playthrough of ALttP yesterday and wondered what would happen if a player didn't get the lantern in the house. Now I know.
What happens?
I don't remember now.
What's so great about ALttP? Literally everything!

Good job
Aw pokemon ruby was my first game!
Do you think you could do Skyrim, Love this channel
Imo alttp aged way better than oot which has awful camera navigation by todays standard.
Great game
anyone recommend this on switch?

ALTTP is the Goat🔥🔥🔥
The best game EVER ❤
All i want to know is, why does Link have pink hair in this game?
SNES pallet limitations
