It IS very important to reward ourselves in some sort of form for us being diligent in our personal growth to better ourselves. My hat is off to those who have just made the first steps in wanting self improvement all the way to those leading by example and showing support and proving that sticking with it does pay off. Buy yourselves a present or do something you love. I did. 🤟

Oh my…you nailed it. This is already helping me so much. I used to be on top of everything and experienced trauma and spiraled. For years I have been stuck in my head. If I am stressed I can’t even focus at all. Overthinking has damaged me in many of ways you mentioned and now I have secluded myself. I could not pin point the reason for my behavior and thought it was depression (for years?). So now I can work on improving myself and think I will feel a lot better.

    • @deannag5007
      @deannag5007 2 роки тому +2

@@leannehansen5478 so many of us have experienced trauma in some form but sometimes it is overwhelming and we feel we are stuck in a slippery pit. I am fortunate enough to have had an excellent counselor who truly understood. That is key. I went through intensive counseling for seven months 3x a week and 3 hour sessions. Some in group and some one on one. I would not be where I am today without counseling and putting action to what my counselor (Carol) taught me. I did the right thing even when others around me were not. Life is so much better. I was even able to get off anti depressants after 15 years. I will keep you in my thoughts and wish you blessings and the best life possible.

Thank you Dr. Snipes. You have been extremely helpful. My monkey mind at times runs a thousand miles a minute. In my thoughts, I'm constantly second guessing my actions was what I did right or wrong. I feel that most of the time my actions are wrong but this is a cognitive distortion. Excellent see suggestions to see stop and check the facts, breathing before acting, and set plans before acting. Mindfulness skills and distress tolerance skills are excellent skills to help me stay in the moment and to be aware of how I am feeling and what I am thinking in the moment and to improve the moment. Thank you once again Dr. Snipes for your help.

Nice video and information. One posiible solution--- Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night, when taking a walk, when reading, on the phone, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

I’m going through overthinking right now that’s why I’m watching this video and It’s tough, and it causes me procrastination and depression, I don’t do much I’m not productive, I barely do things I have to do. I’m going to school and thank God I still do my homework but I’m not focused. I would do better if I’m focused. I’m 34 years old, I left my job because I took the decision to start school, I worked in jobs and I don’t stay because of the load of studying. I also feel that I want to have my own family and I’m looking for a partner and someone who I talked to before came back and said that he is interested in me for a serious relationship, I thought about the past and what happened that things didn’t work out in the beginning, his sister refused me and now he said she passed away, he said he was not thinking about himself and letting his family deciding for his own life. Things I like in him, he’s educated he has a good job he’ll provide for his family, but I asked him that I want to continue my education and he seems reluctant…he thought he would pay for my education I told him he won’t. I’m just lost I don’t like myself in this situation

I like this format better than the one with the red background. It’s nice to see you closer up, but it is easier for me to focus on these slides on the white background and questions at the end. I’m sure there are many constraints on your time and covering the questions while running the presentation simultaneously is perhaps quicker - I miss bits while I’m writing a question though.
Perhaps I can find out how to access the community tab. Not sure how to do that, if anyone can point me in the right direction, I’d be grateful.

What advice would you give to people like me who just cant seem to take that first step in regards to learning to accept uncertainty, getting out of your comfort zone, engaging instead of avoiding? It seems that there are iron gates in my mind. I get so excited and motivated to work on these things and do them because I know they will help, but I can never seem to make that first step. Just to frightened.

Taking the first step towards accepting uncertainty, getting out of your comfort zone, and engaging instead of avoiding can indeed feel daunting, especially when fear seems to create mental barriers. Here are some strategies to help you overcome these challenges:
      1. Acknowledge and Accept Your Fear
Recognize that fear is a natural response to stepping into the unknown. Instead of fighting it, try to accept it as part of the process. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) emphasizes the importance of accepting your reactions and being present.
      2. Start Small and Gradual
Begin with small, manageable steps. For example, if engaging in social activities feels overwhelming, start by participating in a small group or even just saying hello to someone new. Gradual exposure helps build confidence and reduces anxiety over time.
      3. Use Fact-Based Reasoning
Challenge catastrophic thoughts by focusing on facts rather than emotions. Ask yourself, "What are the actual facts in this situation?" This helps to ground your fears in reality and reduces the tendency to overestimate risks.
      4. Develop a Resilient Support Circle
Surround yourself with supportive people who can provide encouragement and wisdom. Having a resilient circle can cushion you during periods of uncertainty and provide a sense of safety.
      5. Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques
Engage in mindfulness practices such as deep breathing, guided imagery, or meditation. These techniques help calm the mind and reduce the physiological symptoms of anxiety, making it easier to face your fears.
      6. Visualize Success
Envision yourself successfully taking the first step and achieving your goals. Visualization can help reduce fear by mentally preparing you for the experience.
      7. Reflect on Past Successes
Think about times when you successfully handled uncertainty or stepped out of your comfort zone. Reflecting on past successes can boost your confidence and remind you of your capability to manage new challenges.
      8. Embrace Tragic Optimism
Adopt a mindset of tragic optimism, which involves finding meaning and growth in difficult situations. This perspective helps you to see challenges as opportunities for personal development.
      9. Set Clear, Value-Driven Goals
Identify your core values and set goals that align with them. When your actions are guided by your values, it becomes easier to take steps towards them, even in the face of fear.
      10. Reward Yourself
Celebrate small victories along the way. Positive reinforcement can help create new, positive associations with stepping out of your comfort zone.
By implementing these strategies, you can gradually build the courage to take that first step and continue progressing towards a life that embraces uncertainty and growth. Remember, it's okay to take things one step at a time and seek support when needed.

Happy Wednesday Doc, Doc got anything on full blown burnouts redirecting the rage to a new direction for new beginning's?
I just can't find a way to go right now and it's just been way too much for too long.
Like seriously including what one of my old PCP's called torture and couldn't get over what had been done to me. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Never had the heart to tell him it hadn't been the first time.
People can only endure so much for so long, before loosing all direction.
Still a glimmer of hope. But not much and it's tenuos at best!
    Just thought I'd ask.
    Take care Doc..

So what you do you do if you have 3 traditional medicine nature healers like my Master Navigator Carolinian Chief, then there is my Grandma a real natural healer who heal a lot of families in taking in orphans as her own like Mother Teresa, my Grandma raised me as a premature 50-50 to live or die, my own Mother seek my Grandma help to make live today to tell my deadly culture & custom life story, then there's my Dad, a master Navigator healer himself so? Do you really think I can overcome their high standard they set in my beliefs natives spirits.
    Please make me understand.? Please.
