My hate for portals is that on my ps4 loading the nether takes a while, but then before I'm out of the loading screen me and creatures can already move around and i have died often just due to bad loading
I hate not being able to see...and my worst portal was on the side of a cliff. Was holding crouch couldn't move forward because no ground, couldn't move backward because wall
I wish this episode was around when I first went to the nether. That first trip was absolutely terrifying and I died almost immediately. Great episode for new players.
and then also the only way for me to get down was to take fall damage and go to 1 heart and then die again or just try to find a way down which is way to far away
You brought nothing but cobblestone into the Nether the first time, which I understand and also do, HOWEVER, I also bring a flint & steel with me because it's cheap and not a big deal to lose, but if a ghast knocks out your portal, you'll have to choose between looking for a way to light it back up or dying (and losing your 36 experience levels!) to get back to the overworld.
We brought our strider back to the overworld and named him Chirpy after the sounds he makes. Built him a little lava pool and shelter from the rain. :)
I always have a chest near my portal on the nether side with flint and steel, some gold armour, food and a few stacks of cobblestone. On the over world side I like to have gold armour in item frames so I don’t forget to put it on
Here’s my personal tips that I find ESSENTIAL when exploring the nether: 1- your #1 enemy in the nether is ghasts these guys are the most annoying mobs in there (if you play on mobile and there’s a ghast in a place you don’t like simply walking away from it and returning should make it despawn) 2- bows make your life SO much easier in there, if you have a mob farm (or easy access to arrows in general) then I recommend just getting a mending bow, or if you want a cheap way, get a bow with infinity (basically every enchantment can be obtained from villagers btw) 3- simply walking and exploring normally in the nether is a death wish, what you want to do is build bridges high up and dig through walls (that way you only deal with ghasts and nothing else) and if you reach for example a fortress then just drop down using a boat. Powder snow can also be placed in the nether so 4- bring a bucket of powdered snow instead of a water bucket since you cant place water in the nether, useful if you’re falling 5- when in a bastion bring a lava bucket since you can kill piglins with the lava without angering any other piglins if they see you
Tip:if you put your coordinates in the chat and leave the game, the message in the chat will disappear. So don’t leave the game when you are exploring the nether
I worked on finding "Containers" that Piglins don't care if you open and they don't care about Droppers or Dispensers, so I would put the Flint and Steel plus an extra piece or 3 of Gold Armour and some Food and a Stack of good Blocks into it... they only have 9 slots, but that is fine. Silk Touch is necessary for good Nether gathering, personally. I want all the good stuffs on the Overworld side of my world so I am safe. I actually prefer to wear a Gold Helmet into the Nether. My "Good" gear tends to have Feather Falling on the Boots because yes, I need that. My Helmet tends to have Water Based Enchants (Respiration, Aqua Affinity etc) that are useless in the Nether. And fine, Boots probably have Depth Strider on them too... Pants? Pants are good, so long as you don't have Swift Sneak on your "Good Gear" because if you do that is what you will be expecting and you may find out you are not crouching at all, inconveniently. Ya, just recently did I do one of those Leaps into Lava Ocean. I was seriously not happy. It was quite the fall, so I had lots of time to enjoy the thought of all the Lava I was going to be swimming in.
Going in naked is a really smart idea and what I did on my current world (first non peaceful playthrough) with nothing on hand other than a stack of cheap blocks to protect the portal after😂
Here’s a tip for anyone trapped in the nether without a flint and steel to relight portals: IF you were in there using the bed method for ancient debris mining, it is possible to light a portal using a bed explosion. Might take a few attempts, but it is totally doable
Early game I like to bring an item frame with me into the nether. I often forget to leave my water bucket behind (they’re useless in the nether since you can’t place water) but it takes to long to head back to the portal and I don’t want to aggravate any piglins by opening a chest. An item frame (preferably on the portal) lets me easily store away my water bucket until I’m ready to go home. Plus I’m a forgetful person so physically seeing the bucket reminds me to take it back so I don’t leave it in the nether. :)
I always build the bases in the nether with a small entrance/exit tunnel, 1 block wide, 2 blocks tall, and 3 blocks long. That way I avoid ghasts blowing up doors and/or buttons (for iron doors), and it provides protection against hoglins, endermen and big magma cubes. Also it provides cover against being flanked by smaller mobs.
Another great episode of the bedrock guide! Best mix of information for practical world building. I’d love to see an episode or short on armor enchants. I thought I understood the best protection enchantments but the research I did building my maxed armor set left me more confused than ever.
I always take a stack of cobble, a chest, a piece of gold armor, and a flint and steel when I first go in, build a shelter like you, and put my chest down with the flint and steel. Better if you already have an end chest (unlikely). This protects you from piglins and allows you to relight the portal should it break somehow. I often like to rebuild my portal too, but that's personal preference and can more easily be done later
Just so you know I wanted to point out a few things to make yalls life easier: You can actually find ancient debris in lava lakes & oceans quite easily due to lava not allowing air to touch it as it spawns. And since it doesn't burn its going to be a great way to find netherite when you get a few fire resistance pots. Name the strider Heat Walker? (A slight joke from the idea of Frost Walker) Keep up the great content! Edit: Mistakes on my part, sorry about that Prowl
I’m a Java player, first few times playing bedrock I couldn’t believe how many times I’d be taking damage from something before I was even loaded into the nether. It’s a lot tougher just to get there
I think there was a change that recently hit the game...gast will no longer shoot toward portals. In practice, this means a direct line of fire to the glowing part. So still protect around so the land doesn't get demolished.
Yes! In speedruns it’s like the mobs don’t do any damage at all! It’s also like there are even less mobs too! I can’t even leave my portal without getting blasted by a gast! On my brand new world I spawned and as soon as I left the portal I got blasted and my portal went out! I got knocked into the air and then died cuz I landed directly on a piglin! It’s so STUPID!!!!
The more i go to the Nether the less scary it feels/seems. Guilded Blackstone is one of the main reasons I go other than quartz and ender pearls and maybe some netherite and easy porkchops and bartering farms and... well okay, I guess there's more reason to go.
