If he was trying to catch up with a bunch of people from his past you would think he would do the common courtesy of texting back. I could totally see why she would think it's a date especially since they dated in high school and he never said anything specifically about just a friendly get together.
This could be totally off, but it sounds like he might be thinking about committing suicide snd saying goodbye to everyone from his past.

Why meet one on one if he is getting together with others and claims to be busy? He would have organized or at least suggested a group thing and would have talked about the news and updated her about the other non-dates he's been going on with people they both knew in school and he ghosting them too?

What happened is yall both habe been out there in the dating world n things haven't panned out so then u start scrolling thru ur mental emotional rolodex, fishing the waters. He was just fishing, he wasn't serious. He met someone else that he was more interested in. It happens
