Tom. Your enthusiasm is surely the key to the success of the Dice Tower. I walked into my local game store and saw this on the shelf for 40% off. Done deal! I can't wait to play it.
I guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
@Kameron Karsyn Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
sounds interesting. however I can see it being a pain to remove all of the stacked cards when putting the game away. This game can definitely be more fluid as a digital game
I played this yesterday and it was surprisingly easy and quick to clean up. I was concerned as well, but putting the cards in and taking them out of the sleeves was extremely fluid.
Reminds me of Redakai which used the same idea of building cards on top of each other for attack or defense. I remember it used that large container case to help keep the cards laid on top of each other so they don't scatter, etc. I actually thought that game would catch on because they launched a cartoon immediately after the release. I really enjoyed the art work and cool mechanics in that game.
The look is amazing, this game is in reality is solo play in a multiplayer. Hence the fewer players the better really (extra players ONLY add longer playing time and more waiting for your turn). Some of the expansions do add twists like assymetry (individual player powers from a leader etc). That makes more players at least more interesting.
Actually, for me a 3 player count is the sweet spot for player count in a deck builder like dominion, because I like that there might be 3 strategies, or that sometimes the lesser strategy wins because the other 2 players competed for the same strategy and made it a lesser one. I think it's general to other deck builders as well.
Honestly, I thought the game was going to be just a gimmick in the end. Now I'm intrigued after watching the review. It does seem like Dominion. It's introducing a new, potentially popular mechanic that may be used in better games down the line.
Just bought this one regardless of the reviews. I really like the system it uses. Awesome job Tom, with this one. I'm looking forward already to expansions and different styles of gameplay, etc. :D
I blindly bought in Steam (liked theme and aesthetics) and I like it. Never heard about it before randomly see in Steam. Good game, waiting for all expansions added to it, more expansions = more fun.
I've been excited about this one ever since you mentioned it at the GAMA trade show, now I'm even more excited!! Can't wait till August for it to come out :D
Looks like a promising experiment for future development of games. I see a lot of people complaining about the theme... and I understand it doesnt seem to be an exciting one however I couldn't judge this game without playing it.
hey tom. in the area of new mechanics, have you tried codex card time strategy game by sirlin games? it has mtg roots but it adds new interesting mechanics: it is essentially mtg without its flaws like mana flood, mana screw, luck of the draw, paying to win, expensive rare cards
Nice concept, but as with Rattlebones, i don't think i would like to mess with cards/dice building my own. I could give it a try, but not seeing myself playing this a lot. Just too fiddly.
The card crafting mechanism is neat (looks fiddly though), but other than that it's just another generic "buy the points" game. It reminds me of Keyflower (unique bidding / worker placement mechanism + generic resource management euro).
What are we supposed to do when the sleeves start to split apart along the sides with usage? Are there replacement sleeves in the box, or have they said that expansions will have extra copies of the same sleeves? For the most part, the other clear-card gimmicks used plastic card holders or something sturdier than sleeves to keep the stacks of cards together - this one just seems like a flimsier implementation (just based on the sleeves and cards - not talking about gameplay).
Monkeyb00y that’s one of the best recommendation points. It’s like Citadels being a mix of LoveLetters and Splendor. If ya like ‘em, you’re good to go👍
Have you tried the digital implementation since making this comment? I only got the physical edition to the table once (my good gaming group didn't care for it and I'm definitely not taking it to my 2nd gaming group!) but I'm enjoying the app on my tablet! edit: formatting error
@@billyw8186 By the time I learned of a digital implementation, my interest has waned somewhat. It's still in my wishlist, but I am kind of hoping for a good deal before I get it.
Somewhat interested but the theme is pretty week. This could have been a cool alchemy themed game. Mixing different potions and elements to make strong ones. But, the gimmick itself is pretty neat.
I must agree, this is beautiful and has neat mecahnics. But it lacks gameplay. For me it is 95% done but the 5% missing are importnat (catch up possibilty and player interaction) .
Hecatomb was a great idea. The lame, inaccessible theme led to its downfall. Mystic Vale seems like it doesn't live up to the hype. There is a lot of hype for this game.
Yup, I was just checking before I asked the exact same question. From what I saw I'm assuming no interaction at all? Even "taking a card they wanted" seems diluted by the fact that there isn't a lot of variety in the cards so there's highly likely to be an almost identical card still available.
This wouldve been a great game with a Transformer theme...combining robots to get a "Vale" super robot Devastator! Or Optimus Prime with his trailer cannons at the Ark...Autobot deck, Decepticon deck, Dinotbots...etc
Funny gimmick, but the poor choice of the theme. It needed something which would make combining different things into the one card make sense. Starship construction, or some crazy machines or constructing a castle or whatnot.
We used to say the same things about Dominion, then superior games worked upon that idea. Thunderstone, Core Worlds, Nightfall, Dice Masters... I look forward to seeing this idea get the same treatment.
Meh.. Too thin theme for me. Also card crafting or deck building, seems like the same basic mechanic. Replace your weak starting cards with better cards. I Don't really see the new amazing thing here :/
I suppose the advantage is that you can basically make one-card combo. You rely more on creating a synergy "inside" the card than assembling good combination of cards. It's in a sense the same idea as deckbuilding but executed differently, with maybe less reliance on luck in order to get the engine going.
Drawing one card is easier than drawing 3 cards that combo with each other. So combo building seems easier here. Also the spacial element matters, which is not a thing in a simple deck builder.
can't see any benefits compared to a regular deckbuilders. Is it fun to sleeve? 👎 so why is this considered fun? looks like a just another gimmick nobody needs.
To put it simply, this is the most boring game I have ever played. There is absolutely nothing going on in the game. Even Splendor offers a better engine. Fun once! Tedious ever after!

I'm just drooling over this one. With gorgeous art like this, I don't get the theme complaints.

A friend of mine got that, so that's the three of us I guess, ahah.
I’ll never forget Hecatomb!
Quite a few expansions for this. Are any must-have expansions or are they a waste of money? Which is the best expansion?
Damn, this lands straight on top of my "to buy" list. Thanks for the review ;)
Sad thing is that this game doesn't come out until August. :(

you had me at making your own cards. it reminds me of Gloom in a way of having g clear cards that overlap to make a card

the core push your luck mechanic reminds me of flip city (which i really really like).
Angela Lin there's quite a bit of similarity between the two
As a couple of others here, i like the idea, but i think someone else will do it better in the future.
Exactly like Dominion.
Pretty much the majority of deck builders have improved on Dominion, but people still love the game.
@@enricopalazzo569lol dominion is still the best deckbuilding game in 2024
The card building reminds me of Gloom.
It's Gloom The Gathering.

What's the other card crafting game by AES that's coming out in the future ?

Get more sleeves. Fantasy Flight and other companies do make tarot-size sleeves.
you should respect your game and be cautious. dont push your luck :D
Easier said than done, especially since you won't be the only one handling your careds

They should reprint Thunderstone Advance instead.
Yes, exactly this!
Yes please. With standard Epic rules.
Yeah, my thought was, when Tom mentioned AEG already plans another card crafting game, that we won't see Thunderstone reprint any time soon..
Maybe it is possible to get somewhere, but it is not officially in print for a long time, as far as i know.
I hope you backed Thunderstone Quest, I sure did ;)
