That is my man (Mike Ness) I love him as a solo artist and love the band... I was absolutely in love with Mike Ness and am so happy he is still on tour!
@necr0sys I have to admit that I have only discovered Social Distortion in the last couple years. I grew up in the 70's listening to groups like Ted Nugent, AC/DC, and Aerosmith. Groups that really knew how to rock. I am so glad that I found out about Social Distortion. I didn't think anyone was still making music like this anymore since you can't find it on the radio. Now I am going back picking up SD's back catalog of albums. Great music! Keep it coming
Be sure to check out the Mike Ness solo stuff too if you haven't already. Especially "Cheating at Solitaire" . That is a super solid record, with cameos by Bruce and Brian Setzer. Full of great covers too, even some Hank thrown in the mix.
I will NEVER forget Bruce saying in a Rolling Stone Magazine Interview around 1992 who his favorite currents rockers were. His FIRST answer: Mike Ness and Social Distortion. That "Somewhere Between Heaven & Hell" was a brilliant record and that the song "Born To Lose" was special. So many people forget that the punk rockers of the late 70's respected Bruce because there was no bullshit to his music. It cut to the bone. The famous Boss hit tune "Hungry Heart" was originally penned for The Ramones after Bruce saw The Ramones and talked to them after a show at The Fast Lane. I will NEVER criticize a rock artist just because they become popular. It's unfair to fans if a guy like Bruce only plays to 3,000 seaters, which he still does from time to time on his solo tours. . If there is demand, you must do the 16,000 seaters. Otherwise cities like Tulsa, Jacksonville, and Des Moines do not get to see you play. Ness would say the same thing. I possess the ultimate respect for Bruce Springsteen and Mike Ness. I feel Bruce has handled it as well as a rocker can.
Being a big Social D fan it is so fucking good to see Mike get his just do performing with Bruce and the ESB. He has been, as he would say payin dues for along time. It's time for him to cash in on his amazing talent as a singer songwriter/performer.
Nice, this is the full song too. The pro shot footage was missing half the song. Big SxDx fan, would have loved to have seen this. Caught Bruce in Denver, amazing show
I just gained a boatload of respect for Springsteen. I respect him as an icon and all, but I never nor will never be into his music. But at least it's good to know he has enough good taste to perform with Ness.
Great video...thanks Ed...Ness made 2 big mistakes in his career....Sex, Love and RockNRoll should have been released under a major label.......and Ness should have had Springsteen join him on stage at Woodstock in '99 to play "misery loves company". That would have been huge.....2 of the greatest songwriters together.....MTV would have ate it up......Mike is gradually getting credit due to him..but over a much longer time frame.
Honestly i know there are a lot of springsteen fans praising this and all but i think bad luck sounds so much better than this mix of rock'n'roll stuff which is what punk stood against in the first place.
There wouldn't be puck with Social Distortion, Youth Brigade, or that other one up in New York. Mike Ness has inspired MANY of us. He's even a hero for some of us, like me. So you cant even saying anything....
Hardest Rocking song ever at a Springsteen concert ??? It would be cool if the next Springsteen album would sound like this song. (I know, I'm dreaming !)
Culture meets commercialism. Talent meets formula. Depth meets materialism. Springsteen "The man of the people" What a joke. Springsteen probably has nightmares thinking what it must take to write a song this good.
One thing aboout Social Distortion is that they dont need to a major label becuase everyone already knows who Social Distortion is....and Mike Ness doesnt gave a fuck he does it for the love of music..
I only wear diapers when I'm in the pit. That way I don't have to stop kickin' ass to take a pee. My favorite attire is jean cut off shorts, sleeveless t-shirt, and high tops without socks. Oh, and a john deere trucker hat. But that's only when I'm undercover in Texas.
Springsteen is one of the most diverse and respectful rock stars ever. Who from his generation and background has paid respect to so many punk rockers? The late 60s and early 70s stars were always a bunch of snobs.
To quote Justin Townes Earle, "If you don't like Springsteen, it means you don't like Woody Guthrie, and if you don't like Woody Guthrie, you don't like songs."
Ever since the late 80's Social D has actually been more rock-a-billy than punk. So, it doesn't surprise me to see them share the stage with Springsteen, Brian Setzer, country bands, blues bands etc.... Also, Rock-a-billy is far more "working" class than punk ever was. I love both styles of music & lifestyles but, we've gotta keep it honest. Real working class works blue collar jobs & keeps their hands in their own pockets.
For the fucking win...the only way it could have been any better was if they'd played "Ball and Chain". Of course, then someone would have had to clean my computer as my head would have exploded.
Man…..doesn’t get any better than that!!!!!
2 legends . wish i was there to see it
Surprised the stage could hold that much awesome.
Boss played that like a real member of Social D!!! how much fun can two guys have.
2 of the best rock & roll songwriters, EVER!
That is my man (Mike Ness) I love him as a solo artist and love the band... I was absolutely in love with Mike Ness and am so happy he is still on tour!
Could see this video daily,- I'm never bored!
When I was a SD fan in the early 80's, Springteen fans hunted us like dogs.

I've got A new respect for Bruce now. Mike Ness and Social D are one of the last REAL gems of Punk and Rock N Roll
Two of my favorite bands ever Social D and Springsteen. Only thing that would have made it better would been if Steve Earle was there too.
Love Mike Ness - Very nice guy - honest and glad to see him have success.
Great Comment!
PUNK IS A WAY OF THINKING!!
Great duet!
HUGE solo guitars!!!!
Nobody deserves that moment in rock n roll history more than Mike Ness, Social Fucking D forever
Being a big Social D fan it is so fucking good to see Mike get his just do performing with Bruce and the ESB. He has been, as he would say payin dues for along time. It's time for him to cash in on his amazing talent as a singer songwriter/performer.

Oh... My... God. That was fucking incredible!
I could never "like" this enough. SO FUCKING AWESOME
Awesome! Simply awesome!
You can feel it, it''s al about knowing who THEY ARE, then the chemistry is JUST PERFECT!
I just gained a boatload of respect for Springsteen. I respect him as an icon and all, but I never nor will never be into his music. But at least it's good to know he has enough good taste to perform with Ness.
2 ICONS,one mainstream and one underground. gotta luv it.
Simply awesome!

Mike Ness and Social D.--Sellout free since 1979. Big Ups to Bruuuce for the appreciation!

Culture meets commercialism. Talent meets formula. Depth meets materialism. Springsteen "The man of the people" What a joke. Springsteen probably has nightmares thinking what it must take to write a song this good.
Now This IS something... :O Dunno which one is cooler here ... Love em both!
Two Legends!!!
Unbelievable...wow!
One thing aboout Social Distortion is that they dont need to a major label becuase everyone already knows who Social Distortion is....and Mike Ness doesnt gave a fuck he does it for the love of music..
Damn these two need to make an album together!
It's amazing how much charism has mike ness.
great. awesome solo
Little Steven must have had a ball playing a song like that one !
I'm surprised The Mighty JAY Weinberg didn't play on that one..
Max Weinberg on drums?! Nice!
Is that bald guy Mike Ness? Holy crap the past 20 years have been hard on him! :(
Punk has very fucking wide open arms, man. It warms my heart to know you get it. We'll probably never meet, but we're friends now, homie.
Mike Ness comes off like the black sheep of a royal family. Like some sort of punk rock warlord.
It's awesome.
I thank you for video recording this. It was really well done
THE GODS HAVE SPOKEN!!!!
wow. Really Good! Damn i wish i was there :)
It would have been cool, ortleyman, because Springsteen played and sang the song with Mike Ness on Ness' solo album, Cheating at Solitaire.
Mike Ness in a T-shirt! Rare Shot

I would've preferred to see springsteen singing a social distortion song...
Wow man i wouldn't go do arm wrestling with those 2 guys... Respect!!
Awesome :)
Fucking EPIC.

Mike ness is the coolest.

@JivemasterJ Bad Luck is a Social D song.
The Boss looks like he is wearing an orthopedic wrist brace,,,,hahahahaha
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWSOME!
Looks to me like Mike Ness attained what Bruce hoped for; to be one of the baddest natural-born rockers alive.
Great stuff !!!
did you record the song Growin' up ???
very well said
Social D "roots" started in 78'.
Nice Load Son!!!!
I think Bruce may have pooped his pants a little straining so hard.
