    So looking forward to the rest of the story :-) This seems like such an honest and real person. I've said before some interviews make me roll my eyes with " oh sure " ( New York born cynic here) because Elvis isn't around to respond to some claims and memories but this gentleman passes my tests on every level. In another thought so wonderful to see a Vietnam vet that went on to have a productive life; so many other sad stories. Please thank him again for his service.

    Spa guy, you really done your homework. This is a phenomenal interview, thank you so much. Think about this interview you landed. It took almost 43 years, including the three big networks of its time, could not even achieve what you just produced. kudos to you, I cannot wait for the remaining two. “Come fly with me” great interview!! Walking 🚶 through the “Lisa Marie “is quite a “trip “ the “Midas touch was everywhere. Elvis 🕺 bed was covered in plastic, the seat belt added a nice touch. I sat on the bed and got in trouble,and it wasn’t the first time......if you ever get to sit on any bed that beautiful Elvis slept in. Go for it!! You will never be the same!!😊❤️🌸

  • @mjanovec
    @mjanovec 4 роки тому +5

    I bet Ron was thrilled to be able to fly the Convair 880. It was a real hot rod and was one of the fastest jet airliners ever made (except for the Concorde, of course), flying faster than modern airliners do today. Their downfall is that they were fuel hogs and really expensive to operate, which is part of the reason they were already being pulled from service in the early 70s. No doubt that some of Elvis' financial issues at the end of his life were exacerbated somewhat by flying the Lisa Marie. Had he lived longer, he likely would have needed to downsize to a more economical two-engine business-style jet. Very few celebrities can afford to operate a full size four-engine jetliner.

    I think Lamar Fike was the first one to tell the "spur of the moment" trip to Denver for peanut butter sandwiches in the middle of the night. If its the same trip, and the log book verifies it, then its good to now know the real story. Linda Thompson was great for Elvis, and her humor with Ron (still having a chance) is a great insight to her charm. Another home run in the Elvis historic video library of the SpaGuy.

    • @francoisfavreau769
      @francoisfavreau769 4 роки тому +5

      You're right,it's Lamar who tells the story in "All the king's men" videos.He go's on saying"it was a 40,000 dollars turn around but sure was lot of fun".And trough the years on all the interview ,videos,books, some of the guys have embellished some of the stories.So it's really cool to have the real thing with the Spa guy.Thank you Billy for all these great videos,it's like being there.

    • @dougdickason
      @dougdickason 4 роки тому +2

      @@francoisfavreau769 yes Lamar told that story in that documentary, but first, the story originated in 1980, when he was also the source for the story in Albert Goldman's "book" about Elvis where Goldman may have molded the story to his own reality like he did the rest of his book.

    • @dougdickason
      @dougdickason 4 роки тому

      @Flora Braswell the documentary is, "An inside look at the Memphis Mafia" which is on UA-cam. It is like 5 hours with 5-6 of the Memphis Mafia sitting and telling Elvis stories. There is a similar, shorter documentary, about an hour an a half, "All the Kings Men," also on UA-cam, but I can't recall if Lamar tells the story in that one or not, but the other person who replied to my post, seems to think he did.

    • @lolajoker
      @lolajoker 2 роки тому

      Actually Lamar was not the first to tell the story. It was told (made the news) and was known at the time it happened. I know/knew the Denver police officers (family friends) who were involved. I also know Nick Andurlakis who helped invent the sandwich and who served it to Elvis on the plane. He is still alive and up until this year owned an Elvis themed diner in the Denver area. The owner of the Colorado Mine Company restaurant and is wife also came with the food. And no, Elvis did not eat one or 2 whole sandwiches himself. The sandwiches were cut up into sections and he is said to have eaten 2 sections and the story grew to him eating 2 whole sandwiches.

    • @dougdickason
      @dougdickason 2 роки тому

      @@lolajoker ok, good point. As far as mass media that reached a world audience, Lamar revealed the trip and was possibly the first to do so on that level, and he also revealed many other things to Albert Goldman, for his evil book on Elvis, not that Lamar knew Goldman was intending to do everything he could to demean, and belittle Elvis and erase any positive things he possibly did. One sided, and it is interesting to realize how unbelievably biased and cruel his intentions were.

    I was a flight instructor at Ft Worth Meacham field when Elvis dropped by to look at the progress on his Convair 880 at Ward Aviation. I saw him in the back of a limo when he was leaving. I've met a lot of celebrities and politicians in my flying career and none impressed me like Elvis. He was my grandmothers favorite entertainer and she was born August 1881.

    Thank you Spa Guy for sharing this incredible interview with Ron Strauss. I have learned so many wonderful stories about Elvis and the people he knew well. I could listen to these stories all day & every day and would never be tired. Thanks for all your hard work & the time you put into to making these videos. It is great to actually see the pilot who flew the Lisa Marie. I have often wondered who the pilot was. It was heartbreaking to learn that the woman who wanted to meet Elvis , but missed him just moments too late. I wonder if she was able to overcome her heart breaking from this. Thanks again for sharing these awesome pieces of Elvis history. ☺
