SPOTTER360 I think it is a very special route, not many planes crossing the Atlantic like that:) Like you I also want to try it one day. And again, very nice video 👍👍
Always good to see my home airline in great footage videos like this, Awesome, I flew to New York on SAA in 2001 on a 747-400 and it stopped on the way in the Cape Verde Islands....long journey
Im originally from Nam, but i appreciate what SAA does for the region (Southern Africa). i flew on a A340 many times including that exhausting JHB-DC via Dakar rout. but what a beautiful bird though...weldone.
Such a nice vid to have. I did the old non-stop flight from DC to J'burg on that plane and I really hadn't appreciated how massive it is until we got close to it. Ungodly long flight but pretty comfy in biz class. Not the same level as Emirates' biz class, but I enjoyed it and staff were pretty good. On the return we stopped for fuel in Dakar. Really long flights in both directions but so glad I got to sample the huge A340 as I seem to not see as many these days. Thanks for the vid!
flygwada971 - I know the feeling. I was fortunate to fly on one of Virgin Atlantic's A346 once. It was an overnight flight so I didn't get a make a video of that experience. The A340 has been one of my favorite airplanes.
SPOTTER360 mm...yeah... But my favourite airline is Air India...Hope u will catch him as well...they fly daily to JFK,EWR,SFO,ORD and frm next year to Washington DC and Houston.
Its the most beautiful long haul experience 15hrs go by smoothly, preflight bloody mary in the diner at T4 and Castles & J&B's movies and the crew is always hospitable. :D despite most A340-600 reviews the seats are quite comfortable and the in flight entertainment is always good. I am from Zambia and live in NY I do this trip at least two to three times a year. and SAA is my #1 go to carrier.
In general SAA is a good airline to fly, service is normally very good. One of the few airlines that give you unlimited bottled water, hate having to ask for water to be poured in a tiny cup. To be honest though the best planes and service are on African routes. I found this route extremely long. Maybe it's just me but I like having 4 engines when flying over so much ocean. Great plane.
I've flown this route, superb service, they offer 3 full course meals, unlimited drinks and it is beautiful to see the sunrise over the coast of West Coast of Africa (Usually Monrovia, Sierra Leone....), before heading over the Atlantic ocean again heading South East towards South Africa, When I flew it was an evening non stop flight from Washington DC, now as mentioned its a morning flight out of JFK getting to JNB in the morning, hence you would miss the Sunrise over West Africa. Highly recommended if you get a chance.
something about long 4 engine single deck airplanes that's hard to beat .. the a340. the dc8 and 707.. and not to forget the cv990 and 880.. 4 engines is a passed erra . wont be long and all we will see is 2 engine planes.. the 747 is on its way out and the a380 is also flying her last years
wish if Airbus had the A340-600 in the line of production....4 engines ... a great long bird with the most modern techno updated making this bird for the best long haul comfort with great fuel efficiency and more safety.
I imagine that would be a wish come true for many. But airlines seem to prefer 2-engines jets nowadays and that's been the demise of quad engines jets.

Is it bearable 15 hours?

Aahhh! the A346, underrated aircraft with a good safety record, no death recorded as a result of it's crash
Lehlohonolo Phalatse - I've always been a huge fan of this jet.
Certainly, me too

andrew lane - Definitely true. They are slowly fading away. Better enjoy them while they are around.

Saa could be one of best airlines in the world if not government owned
Louis Henn - How so?

Its a great airline. But with all the debt, it will start to go down faster.
Louis Henn - I really hope it doesn't.
SPOTTER360 me too
SA plane is long and beautiful
Phila Mtolo - This aircraft was the longest commercial passenger jetliner until the Boeing 747-800 was built.
What does virgin plane mean?No one has came in it?
Camera?
Sam Carpenter - Sony DSC-HX400V
In premium yes but in economy you will need some tricks n hacks to survive
💪💪😍😘✈✈✈🛫
like #99
So sad to hear that Airbus isn't making those 340s anymore! Bad move in my opinion. No more 4-engine planes for long-haul flights. Very dangerous.
The A380 is a quad....but yea, it is sad the A340 in no longer in production and slowly leaving the skies.
🇿🇦
When the ascended into the sky, it was like, "See you in fourteen hours in Johannesburg"
Definitely it is
