Very easy way man, really! 7:43 - look at the number of hoses and stuff
I just purchased my conical burr grinder today for my cold brew. Can't wait to get the nitro on tap!
never tried that type of coffee, looks fantastic though!
That's incredible...
Always nice to see my local Starbucks in a UA-cam video. Cheers!
Always nice? This specific Starbucks location is in a lot of UA-cam videos?
My 8$ nitro hack is taking cold brew and pumping the shit out of it in a french press until it changes color and becomes harder to pump. Pours a cream color and cascades like crazy, the head is a little intense. Tastes nearly identical, albeit one glass at a time.
Really interesting product - I wonder if it uses a aeration stone in line with the beverage... could be interesting to try and force carb your next brew with it?
If u don't wanna buy a burr grinder, which isn't that necessary for cold brew, I recommend shaking the coffee grinder while grinding. That helps a lot
Great video, as always! Would have loved if you got your coffee from a local roaster though. It usually costs a bit more than Amazon, but you know the roast date and if you pick a good roaster you'll also get information about the origin and can make sure that it's fair trade.
If you know that you'll do a big dose of coffee they can also grid it to the right size for you. They'll have a good bur grinder that will give you a cleaner taste profile and better extraction.
Cheers!
Good point. Amazon beans were for convenience but yes would be good to look at some local options.
I do not need a nitro coffee tap, however, I would love a nitro beer tap. . .Maybe I need to remind my wife that she loves Guinness draught and that I can make a beer and serve a beer just like it if i only had the equipment.
Nitro poured stout is so so good.
Tangentially related. I've got a cold brew coffee mead going right now. Half gallon of coffee, 3.25 lbs of honey, 1 tsp of bourbon vanilla extract, and 1 cinnamon stick, and water to ~1 gallon (1.123 OG). Tasty. Just waiting for the yeast to flocculate, then I'll rack it onto some rum soaked oak chips, and let it age for a while. It's a bit hot, considering it's something like 14.5% ABV. The bits of coffee bean I couldn't filter out made for an interesting fermentation, as the CO2 had persistent nucleation points. Foamy.
I just pick up my keg and shake it and then after 3 or 4 pours you don’t need to do that to get the nitro cascade. (10L keg, 30 psi nitro at 1 degree Celsius)
I'm curious why you used mason jars to brew the coffee and not just do it all in the corny keg with a hop sock?
👆 This! Great idea.
Like others have said, burr grinder is the way to go for consistency. Look for local beans rather than Amazon :) they probably taste better and are roasted recently. Also weigh your beans for extra consistency for repeatability.
Thanks!
@@TheHomebrewChallenge Baratza Encore is a pretty widely known entry level burr grinder. Baratza also has pretty good customer service for any future replacement parts. Seattle coffee gear and whole latte love are good online retailers for coffee related items.
A burr grinder will give you more uniform coffee grounds so they all extract at the same rate which will give you smoother coffee 🙂
Thanks, you have me looking at Black Friday sales 😀
Agreed! Definitely a worthy investment. I have one made by Cuisinart and it works great. Has many different ranges from course to fine and in between. Definitely invest in one Martin if you’re passionate about it like you are.
@@TheHomebrewChallenge @JamesHoffmann just released a vid on grinders

wish there was a good way for me to get good nitro cold brew lol
As a mechanic who works on hydraulic and pneumatic system, installed, repaired, commissioned, upgraded system, a little time and thought would make that a lot cleaner and easier to trace if a problem came up.
By the way love the channel!
Oh it’s a complete mess in there. Come on over and sort this beast out! 😃
@@TheHomebrewChallenge Would love too but I live in Texas
That’s a large glass of coffee at the end. I’d be bouncing off the ceiling after half of that.
o esquema é animal, mas é carissimo para os brasileiros haha cheers
Wondering why you make the cold brew in the jars. You could skip a step and just brew it directly in the keg. Love the channel!
That’s a damn good point!!
You need a burr grinder, far more consistent grind.
All this beer and yet you stay so slim. What gives? Must be the coffee trade off. Cheers
That looks awesome, but the price is pretty steep. The nitro infusion keg lid is what I use now. How noticeable is the difference between the two? By the way, great videos. I look forward to them each week.
Can we get an answer to this question
@The Homebrew Challenge I want to know too.
How long is the coffee good for under nitrogen in a keg setup like that? Like when would you dump it to do a fresh batch? After a week? 2 weeks? Just curious. Awesome video.
I’ve not gone longer than 2 weeks but only because the keg is empty by then 🙂. It should keep a good while given that it is in a closed environment not exposed to oxygen.
@@TheHomebrewChallenge iff you left the coffee bag in i wounder if it get stronger over time
You forget to talk about the afterburner in the installation part. Or did you don’t put it in the line?
The afterburner is for longer beverage lines. I am sure there are instructions as to how long a beverage line needs to be before using the afterburner. In Martin's case, his lines didn't need the afterburner.
Right. I did install the afterburner initially but that was giving too much agitation to the coffee. My system just wasn’t big enough to need it.
Great Vids as always but That's a shit load of money for a cup of coffee :-D.....Would you of bought it, if it hadn't of been given to you?
Some day they will make nitro infusers and gas blenders affordable
Anyone noticed the guy killing out you can hear it at 0:42 I guess he wanted to be in the video are at least he wanted to make his presence known by squealing is tires
Dont have Nitrogen, but do have a Beer Engine.
Handpulled Cold Brew Coffee.......?
Genius 😎
Very expensive bit of kit!
yeah, not something your average homebrewer is going to get.
I never buy Starbucks, they are anti Military and Police. But I am I treated in into for my beer.
i bet you buy black rifle coffee
