I think this song is still very relevant even now. As Australians we are the most isolated but yet seem to have so many international connections. When they had the London 2017 Terrorist Attacks, my brother was living over there and not to far from the Attacks. When I heard this song I thought of this time.

Seeing this reaction has made me think. I don't think we Australians consider distance the same way as many other nations. I spent half a decade living in Japan. My sister is a 1,000 miles away in Brisbane. Pretty much any international incident is going to hit local Australian communities. I can't decide if we're the most isolated community in the world or the most connected. Nothing makes sense.

I think we're the most isolated-connected community. As you say, we don't think of distance the same as the rest of the world - a town 200km+ away is a day trip, and many of us think nothing of driving from one side of the country to the other - and still, the rest of the world is so far from us. But many of us live in those far off places, so, when something like the bombings of London, or in Bali, or anything/anywhere is bound to hurt at least one of us, which strikes at us all.
That's my thoughts on it, anyway.
