Great review guys, I'm also from Perth and have seen The Eskys a couple of times they were both great gigs. Contrary to your information I heard Kav (the lead singer) in an interview about writing this song and he said they were actually in New York at the time of Heaths passing and Kav actually was out walking that day not far from the area that Heath passed , it was snowing hence the lyric " take a little look around melting as it hits the ground " They have many great songs this is one of my favourites. Cheers from Aus👍
hello team Suzie & Travis , i'm enjoying your journey down the rabbit hole that is Aussie Rock and by the sounds of things so are you two . I would like to make a suggestion if i may . a new band for you guys called The Hoodoo Gurus the song is "What's my scene " more Aussie rock i think you will enjoy
Eskimo Joe are an amazing band, and this song always hits me hard. The emotion in every note and every beat... the film clip.... yeah, it hits my soul every time. There's so many songs off theirs that I'm sure you'd love too, but if really recommend the videos that they made while in lockdown over the last year. They've made covers of a couple of real Aussie classics, and *chefs kiss* they're brilliant.
Just found you guys! I’m from Perth, Western Australia and have been lucky enough to meet the band a few times and go to many shows. This song is a genuine favourite of mine and hearing it live will bring a tear to your eye. I believe the instrument used was Arabian?
Ah I remember these guys being Freud's Pillow at planet. For your own interests there's a video on UA-cam called "Fridey at the Hydey" which like I'm in & a whole lot of my mates & the band scene of the time. The Hydey was like where everyone starting out had a go on the "stage". It explains a lot of stuff about the era. Good times
It's a middle eastern oboe, (the band were in egypt when they heard of heaths passsing) with whirling dervish, I played this song when I visited Iran using my phone and bluetoothing to the Persians car stereo, they were blown away and loved it
Perth Western Australia, home of the world's best unknown bands. The most isolated cit in the world, isolated even from the eastern states of Australia, even they ignore a lot of the great music from here. Need a Perth Band overload .. more Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy, Karnivool, Voyager, Jebediah, Abbe May, Katy Steele, Bob Evans, Birds of Tokyo, Dave Hole, Chain ... and the list goes on. Even the Divinyls, Guitarist Mark McEntee is from here even though the band was formed in the east by him.
Im loving these Australian band reactions, if you havent already heard of them (which im guessing you have) you should listen to Airbourne they are like a modern auzzie version of AC/DC (who I know are australian too)
This gives me goosebumps every time I hear it,
It really describes the connection us Australians have to each other
Never heard of this band, def checking more of their stuff out. Thanks for exposing more great music!

Thanks for the info. I'd heard they were in Egypt, hence the sound of song. I didn't know they were in New York at the time. Much appreciated.

I always considered Hoodoo Guru's 1000 Miles Away as my theme song of the 90's. Far too many days on the road for, in the end, no real benefit...
Highly Underrated band, been Rocking for over 2 decades... Brilliant song too 😄 I still Rock this on the drums too 😊

New favourite UA-cam channel.

The musical instrument that you asked about is a Zurna wood wind instrument
Interesting to have Whirling Dervish in the background

They're from Fremantle actually.
Please listen from their first album to their last when you can get the time.

Edit: listen to their progression through
20+ years 😃

Eskimo Joe used to be way better. Check out their first songs like “turn up your stereo” … very good xx
