- We head to Safford Arizona in search of Saffordites. Saffordites are like apache tears, but do not form in pearlite which makes them different. there is only one other locality in the world that we know of that these sort of rocks exist. Making these Saffordites not your everyday find.
They’re very beautiful with the light making them glow. They remind me of tiny moons. Thank you Julie and Brian, for introducing me to a new rock, and sharing your adventure with us x❤
Thank you Lesley!🙏🏼💖 We were very surprised to see some of them were different inside. That was very nice.😃
I have never heard of saffordite. My rock education was remiss. You have filled that gap in nicely. I thought I day a couple of pieces of fire agate while you were rooting around. Y'all have fun. See you next time.
I missed your premiere but watched it later. Always enjoy your adventures. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you Michelle!🙏🏼💖
Very, very cool! Thanks for showing me a new “species”!
Thank you Peter! 😄🙏🏼
Thank you for making me laugh yet again💗
Makes me happy we could make you laugh Darleen!😄🙏🏼

nice to hear you see you, good show
Thank you for watching!🙏🏼💖
Those are magical…never heard of them before and wonder if they can be found in the Uk …enjoyed that
Thank you! I don’t know if they can be found in the UK. I’ve only known 2 localities. But you never know, there could be more!😃👍🏼
@@AZRockhoundExpeditions Oor thank you for your lovely reply …me and my granddaughter who only eight are always looking for lovely stones and love hunting around …thanks again
@@user-qh9xw3ky5c Someday we hope to go to the UK and hunt around. It would be so much fun!
@@AZRockhoundExpeditions Hope that works out for you we have beautiful places to visit till then take care
Very beautiful pieces. So are they like apache tears or what are they
Thank you! Yes, they are basically obsidian, but just little balls and scattered all over the ground and very hard to find!
Omigosh guys!! Awesome finds. I’ve gone hunting in safford 4 times and never found a single piece of saffordite… just agates :(. Now I want to try again. :) Did you stay away from the more known rockhounding areas? Like just wander where you think less people have gone ?
Thank you! We just parked where we thought would be a good camp spot then started walking around.😄 I don’t know where most people go, I try and find my own way. It usually pays off.😄
I'd pick up every piece of poop! Accidentally of course
Yeah, I’m that way too. “Why is this rock squishy?”🤢 mohs scale of 0!
Highly eroded obsidian. Been tested and analyzed by UofA .
Makes sense!
Very cool, reminds me of obsidian when the light shines through.
Did one of them have waterline banding?
Also, what is the hardness?
They are essentially obsidian. Volcanic glass. It did look to have waterline banding, so that to me was weird. We may have to cut it to see what the heck is inside. 5 to 5.5 was the hardness.
@AZRockhoundExpeditions thank you, and yess cut please! 🙌🏻
So do they polish nicely or do you cut them?
I’m not really sure. We will have to experiment on them. You can probably do anything really. They are volcanic glass so it would be like how you would treat obsidian.
In a horribly shrill voice "Bring me a shrubbery!!!".
You could always hit Brian back with calling him the inspiration for the cringeworthy Python movie "The Life of Brian". That was a uh, umm, err. I can't come up with words for that film except to say I'll never watch it again. 😱😱😱
Brian loves that movie!🤣🤣🤣

You can find fire agate around there, but I think it’s closer to the mountains. It would be rare to find it in the alluvial, since it was picked over so many years ago.
