I think what happens though is some musicians forget the music and play the technique for technique's sake and the music get's lost. And also some musicians with less technique tend to focus on the music. Leave's us to wonder where does Thelonious Monk fit in...he had technique, but the music is what you hear. So in my opinion lots of technique is great as long as it is not used at the expense of the heart and music. Musicians with a lot of technique are tempted to let that fact takeover.
