When I was a kid my grandad told me 'there's smart folks everywhere you go'. He showed how low-tech and ingenuity could do great work, and here's more of it.
welding on a lathe will not damage the bearing if it is inserted into the spindle hole because the electric current does not pass through the bearing... for us Indonesians doing things like this is normal, I have been doing this for 13 years, and I am a teacher/senior who has done it this happens all the time, there have been no cases of bearings being damaged due to welding. I hope this video changes that wrong assumption
The tube he conected the earth to is direct attached to the spindle that hold the chuck, the bearings sit son the outside at this tube. If u look where he placed the earth u would see it rotate when the lathe is turning.
He just started doing this yesterday! I see he hasn't learned yet! Missing 3 toes on one foot, and two on the other! He'll learn after he loses the 6th one! *Sarcasm OFF!* . . . . How long do you think he's been doing this? 🤔 He's taking responsibility for his own well-being!
At least cover the functional surfaces to protect them from spatter. It looks like a decent lathe and it seems to be the only machine tool he has, I was surprised he would not take better care of it.
Thanks again for showing your work. ✊️

Thanks brother Frank ♥️

🙂 I love your videos, awesome work, thank you so much for sharing, you inspire me to be a better machinist.

Good job, friend😉
Very good job my San God bless you
Very innovative; although, I can't bear to think of the damage that bar would do if it broke loose while spinning around outside the chuck.
Genial amigo...!!
Electric welding in the lathe could destroy the spindle bearings due to current passing through rollers and races.

Cool
Nice video, thanks for sharing it :), where're you located ?

You could have had a faceplate on the tail stock locating work on a v-block helluva lot easier
Szép munka mester
very interesting technique
LOVING THE OH&S.
A way to come by without a milling machine. However, I was concerned about what would happen if that bar flew out of the chuck. 😮😖
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Three jaws chuck?
As the first metal turning lathe was invented in the 1750s no techniques for using one could ever be considered as ancient, rarely known or otherwise.

If you are going to weld on your lathe at least attach the ground clamp to the work, you are going to destroy the lathe bearings.

Protect yourself use safety shoes and goggles while working

Your Video headline is BAD ENGLISH. "techniques" (plural) should be "technique" (singular). "Thumbs down" for the error you made.
