- Tell Him by Patti Drew
Lyrics:
If you ever see the boy for me
Tell him that I love him
Tell him that I care
If he ever needs me
Tell him I'll be there
It happened the other night
We argued but we didn't fight
He grabbed his bag and slammed the door
He hasn't been a-back here no more
If an' how you can see my man
Tell him that I need him
Tell him he was right
Tell him that I miss him
Oooh, each and every night
I didn't mean a word I said
Tell him I was wrong
And yes, if he'll just listen
Tell him to come back where he belongs
If you ever find that love of mine
Tell him to forgive me
Tell him don't be mean
I didn't mean to start it
I wish it was all just dream
Tell him
Tell him
Oh, how much I love
Oh, how much I need him
How much I love him.......FADE

Beautiful voice, beautiful song. They don't make music like this anymore just wonderful. I could listen to this over and over. Brings back so many memories
You're absolutely right!😊❤
You are the best
They just don't make music like this anymore. My mother was a cool chick in the 60s and played this music all the time. She's 88 years old now, and she still rocks.
It’s 2023 and I’m just waiting for a certain girl to call me up and start singing this song to me. Even though that will never happen for the simple fact that she probably doesn’t even know this song exist(like most people). I wish girls actually thought like this now a days
An Update from a year ago fam? Has a Honey called you up and sang this to you?
@@eb9095 no, not yet sadly, but I met someone recently.
Thanks anyway mate.
Calling you... Answer the phone
There are a whole lot of Girls who think like this .

1965, i'm 10 yrs old & I rem'ber being on the bus ride with family & everyone coming back from old long gone Palisades Amusement Park in the NJ,NY area. Somebody had a portable radio on & this song came on. A laughing girl said turn it up. Then a few teenage & 20 somethings started singing along with it, along with my late mom. That is a memory I'll always treasure. ❤
+Savadorason1 Los Angeles
+Savadorason1 thats a cool story that you were able to have that memory
+Savadorason1 That's interesting as the song charted in 1967. You were way ahead of your time. Perhaps you were thinking of the Drew-Vells version.
+Doug Young -Actually the song 'Tell Him' was made in '64. They released it again on an album with more of her songs 3 or 4yrs later.
Thanks for thst
This is music for the soul, and a soul never dies. It just ages with with the times but never dies. Bless these old souls of ours to appreciate this music
Not many singers would dare go up against that cornet and Patti comes through with flying colors !!
THIS IS OLD SCHOOL ROYALTY💐 🎶 💎 👑 💞 👏🏼
Oldies forever, will never die!
This is such a mellow jam, and will never go out of style. That bass line is fantastic.
What a Beautiful Sultry Voice!!
Good Horn Section and DeWop!!
Awesome Song!!
Spot on!
WOW !! THIS SONG STILL MAKES ME FEEL GOOD !!
One of the greatest love songs sung from a female perspective. I love how much Patti uses the Billy Stewart style of phrasing. Magical soul music that will live forever!
love this song and indeed her phrasing is superbe!
Billy Stewart another favorite, sitting in the park ❤😊
Oh my goodness...what a GREAT song! Her vocals were amazing, the horns were on point, and the background singer added depth to the song. Great synergy....every part played their part and the song would suffer if one thing was missing! PERFECTION.
soulstrenth crusader I agree!
Could not agree more with every observation you made!
And the music reflect the times of our lives and look at the cars we were driving back then
u right.. and you definitely know your music cuz the horn section is great on this cut.. you must be a vocalist. 👍
Beautiful voice, beautiful song one of the best songs in my teen years brings back wonderful memories. Can listen to this song over and over.
Who killed the good music? We need it back. These were good days!!! I LOVE these songs!!
paris rain EXACTLY
The DJ's and radio programmers helped kill the good music as they decide what we listen to. Also the record buying public helped kill the good music. Who is the record buying public? 11 to 16 year olds.
Trump did! He's killing everything else in this country!!
paris rain, sad thing is that they'll never ever be able to replace those great group's! They come once in a life time, I'm just great full that these great oldies were recorded for generations to listen to them and to know what REAL MUSIC sounded like.
Love love love my Motown oldies !!
That's an amazing voice...replaying over and over
My husband left this world 8 years ago . I listen to my playlist of oldies every day and it makes me feel like he's still here with me . There is nothing like the Golden Oldie🎭
When I see posts like yours I want want to cry. I'm glad music like this brings you comfort and great memories of your late husband.
May these songs bring comfort in his peaceful journey until you meet again..God bless you

Carlotta so sorry for your loss. I lost my husband 10 years this coming December 2020. This has been a difficult journey. I could never replace him, he was the best that ever happen to me. Someday you and I will be reunited with our husbands for all eternity. Take care and God Bless.

WHAT ?
I'm a youngster 22 yrs old I grew up on this music I'm Mexican and proud of it this is what I grew up in
That makes me proud. I'm 48 and Mexican and I started listening in 1983 and my nieces and nephews are barely teens now and they grew up listening to the oldies and carrying them on, too. That's a cultural music and look at how we came up in the barrios with all us poor blacks and Mexicans. What a perfect union, huh? How incredibly we all bring each other up together, thru that Motown sound.
Right on !!!!!!!!.
Haha sane I'm 22 Mexican and grew up with oldies 💯💯💯

Us flips, (Filipinos) hung around with the brothas and homeboys aka blacks and Mexicans listening to this music..
@@Devils_Advocate423 he was just referring to his appreciation of the music. That you couldn't keep this GEM of music a secret. Sure he meant it on the best ways. Love from another Mexican
Got my ancestry results back and i've got some Mexican in me. Maybe thats why I love this shit so much. LOL
The Old Skool. Golden Soul, Old Skool soul. You simply cannot beat it. This tune from '67 is a like a real fine wine, gets better with age.
The man singing the "bo bo ba dum" in the background is the composer of the song, Carlton Black.
thank you for pointing that out! no really thank you, because sometimes there overshadowed and with a voice like hers is hard to miss
Linds, thank you. Super knowledge for me.
Look for this song on the series "Soul Shots" issued by Rhino Records. Each record has a "volume" number, like "Soul Shots, Volume Five", etc. I forgot the volume number that "Tell Him" is on, but it is subtitled something like "Sisters of Soul", as all the songs on that volume are by female vocalists. That's how I found this great song. The info about Mr. Black is in the liner notes.
+lindsey lefrois love u baby
Is there more info about Barbara Lewis, Carlton Black and this song. AR
Love listening to Oldies Best music 4ever & ever 😘😍🎧🎶🎶🎶

The song should have been a bigger hit in '67. The bass singer is Carlton Black. A great song!

Gil Fabian
They wouldn't know good music if it slapped them in the face.
I agree people like that should have no input in great music like this. Music these days ain't got nth on this or nun of the soul town music. this music really needs to come back
Patti Drew solo or with The Drew-Vels both versions of this are OUTSANDING!!!

A true CLASSIC!!!!
❤️👌Best Music Ever!
hi
You are so right, Michael. I read your historical perspectve, and I love it; it's the history behind the music that makes it great. Songs, music, their environment, performers, creators and listeners are all as historically revealing as broken pieces of clay pottery in the ancient Egyptian desert.
you're so right...I can never get tired of this type of music
Chantel Avina it happened overnight we didn't argue and we didn't fight

This music will never die
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!!!!!! LOVE LOVE 💕
What a powerful voice this lady had!
I was in love with my high school sweetheart. That high school love is a beautiful memory.
Yep. I was so lucky to have experienced this music in High School. Makes me remember my sweetie, too! Funny how, when I went to buy music of this genre (in Denver, they didn't have it in the stores where I grew up), the people in the Record store would glare at me! And pointedly point out that it was "Black music"! (the bins for those records located where the employees could keep an eye on things, of course.)
Anyway, I have always felt so fortunate to have had songs like this as part of my high school experience. Even though I didn't marry my sweetie.
I Love Her Voice And Horns, Nice Arrangement, Tell Him Patti Drew!
The horns are brilliant.
And the bass singer too.
Another Masterpiece for future generations to enjoy! Thank you, Patti Drew!
Wish we could all go back to the good ole days! Best music ever!
This song is me and my past and will never forget. Bring this kind of music and soul to current times, so I can live forever in heaven. God Bless!

What a beautiful voice Patti had. Wonderful song for the ages
I really like the horn section in the back .. blends so good with her beautiful voice
I stumbled across this song years ago while trying to find 60s music to give me a 60s vibe for a story I was writing. I was instantly drawn to it and wondered why I'd never heard my mother or any of her older sisters playing it because it seems like it would've been right up their alley in the mid sixties. Anyhoo I came to really LOOOOOVE this song and I played it all the time. My favorite and best dog EVER, Tiger, knew it and whenever it would come on he would look up at me like "Mom, there's your song." I love that dog and miss him. He was the best. Dont sleep on pitbulls. Rest In Peace, BigBoy!!
Love this song..am an 80's baby the 90's raise me but I love oldies.. especially ART LABO'S
This was my mom favorite jam right here I remember cruising my 63 impala telling my daughter about this song and how it was her grandmas favorite...it brought tears to my eyes when she said put it up louder maybe she can hear it from heaven...Cruise In Paradise Eva”JustMe”Venegas 1958-2008
What a powerhouse vocalist, this gorgeous woman...was a teen when this aired & just as soul stirring decades later...
Anyone know how her life & career unfolded...
I might have to look her up.

Herminia Torres you’ll be with him for eternity in the end don’t worry
She was only about 22 or almost 23 in 1967 and yet her voice sounds years older. She has that sultry, silky, sexy voice that is so wonderful.
This woman has got some pipes.

richard mctere This song is from the late 60's or early 70's. The actual name of the group was "The Drewvels", later changed to Patty & the Drewvells. They are from Evanston, Il and I have loved this song for 40+ years.
+Ron Williams This song is not from the late 60's or early 70's.This song came out in 1964,early 60's .
Little Kim cant touch Patty toe? that's a insult to her thank You????
This will always be my Mom and Dads song .I remember cleaning the house on a Sunday afternoon with my brother and sister in the San Fernando California.
Memories!! These songs will forever live on!!
In the 60s most records were on 45s. I think they were about 50c if I remember and correctly and 50c was a lot of money then to a preteen kid. But some how still managed a good collection from the beatles, Motown and everthing in between.
Dang, nice
+matrox You are absolutely correct. Im 61 and I still remember 45 well. I wish they still made them. There"s something about vynal that sounds soooo nice. Good memories man.
+matrox Forty-five (45s) were a dollar. But a dollar WAS a lot money.
+matrox 50 cents sounds right. I paid a dollar for a 45 in the mid to late 70's.
