There are evidences to show that its a Sunnah Wajib.
    *Evidence#1 Clothing above ankles
    Authentic Ahedith:
Al-Bukhaari reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whatever of the izaar (lower garment) is below the ankles is in the Fire." (al-Bukhaari, no. 5787)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are three whom Allaah will not look at or praise on the Day of Judgement and theirs will be a painful punishment: the one who wears his garment below his ankles, the one who reminds others of his favours, and the one who sells his product by means of making false oaths" (reported by Muslim, no. 106)
Same thing reported by Abu Dawud, no. 4085, and al-Nisaa’i, no. 5334, with a saheeh isnaad)
    The opinions of the Sahabas:
Ibn ‘Abbaas reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Allaah will not look at the one who wears his lower garment below his ankles." (Reported by al-Nisaa’i in al-Mujtabaa, Kitaab al-Zeenah, Baab Isbaal al-Izaar).
Hudhayfah said: "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) took hold of the muscle of my calf (or his calf) and said, ‘This is where the izaar should stop; if you insist, it may be lower, but it should not reach the ankles.’" (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said this is a saheeh hasan hadeeth; see Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 1783)
Ibn ‘Umar said: "I passed by the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and my izaar had slipped down. He said, ‘O ‘Abdullaah, pull up your izaar!’ so I pulled it up. He said, ‘More!’ so I pulled it up more, and always made sure it was pulled up properly after that." Some people asked, "To where did you pull it up?" He said, "To mid-calf length." (Reported by Muslim, no. 2086; al-Dhahabi, Kitaab al-Kabaa’ir, 131-132)
    *Evidence#2 Beard
The Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) indicates that it is obligatory to let the beard grow and that it is haraam to shave it or cut it. It was narrated in al-Saheehayn that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Cut the moustache and let the beard grow; be different from the mushrikeen.” (al-Bukhaari, al-Libaas, 5442; Muslim, al-Tahaarah, 382)
the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Trim the moustache and leave the beard.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5443; Muslim, 600. According to another report: ‘Be different from the mushrikeen: cut the moustache and let the beard grow.” Narrated by Muslim, 602.
And Muslim (383) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Trim the moustache and let the beard grow; be different from the Magians (Zoroastrians).”
    It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (5/136):
What is meant by letting the beard grow is leaving it alone and not cutting it, so that it will grow thick. This is the teaching of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
    Fataawa Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 11/126.
Some of the scholars are of the view that it is permissible to remove anything more than a “handful” of the beard [the hair of the beard that comes beneath the hand if the beard is seized in the hand], basing that on the action of Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him). Al-Bukhaari (5892) narrated: When Ibn ‘Umar did Hajj or ‘Umrah he would take hold of his beard and would trim any excess.

Lastly, my dear brother @Mirza, the Prophet's words اعفوا "LET the beard grow." i.e. let it flow, let it come out, and the مفهوم مخالفة of that is: don't shave it off -- the question is: Akhi, in whose interpretation will we take these words? Yours? Yes, a minority of scholars of the past took it to mean: you shouldn't touch the beard at all. But the multitude of `Ulama, from the Salaf, from the Sahabah, from the 4 Imams and others, permitted taking from the beard. Much more can be said on this.

Also, the justification that the reason they didnt shave their beards was because they didnt have the proper equipment, or that it was difficult, is a position that requires evidence, as the overwhelming crux of this speech illustrates.

Firstly, the Prophet (God bless him and keep him)... he did not have a long beard (e.g. up to his belly button or mid-chest, etc). But indeed the Prophet Muhammad عليه السلام had a "full beard" - and there's a difference between these 2 descriptions. His beard was not طويل ("long"), but rather كامل - like I said before, what could be termed, 'a full beard'.
And yes, those behind him could see *the sides* or *edges* of his beard moving whilst he recited in Prayer. But again, >>>

It's not the length of the beard brothers' the ruling is not to cut the facial hair off whatever length it may be , and during hajj you can trim it for hajj and umra ( a fistful) at most. Some people cant grow a beard so this doesn't apply to them obviously. Now I don't like seeing brothers' with unkept beards , and the Prophet was by all accounts a clean man (saw). This is my understanding ASA.

Also in Quran 49 vs 13 Allah created us into tribes and nations so that we may recognise one another, The best in the sight of Allah are still the pious and the righteous. The stand of Allah is very clear, our souls first before our physical activities can accepted by Allah. Peace!

Besides, many other great scholars of the early period _(salaf)_ have made similar statements, including _the ‘Father of Islamic Legal Theory (Uṣūl al-Fiqh),’_ Imam al-Shāfiʿī (who said, كُلَّمَا طَالَتِ اللِّحْيَةُ، تَكَوْسَجَ الْعَقْلُ “The longer the beard, the duller the mind,” as quoted in _al-Wāfī bi-l-Wafayāt;_ and also composed the following poetic verses, قَوْمٌ يَرَوْنَ النُّبْلَ تَطْوِيلَ اللِّحَا * لَا عِلْمَ دِينٍ عِنْدَهُمْ وَلَا تُقًى ‘Some people think having a long beard is a sign of nobility; they neither have religious knowledge nor piety,’ as cited in Ibn ʿAsākir’s _Damascus: A History)._ Likewise, the _tābiʿī_ Imam ʿĀmir al-Shaʾbī _(the polymath of his day; born in ʿUmar’s reign, learned from many illustrious companions of the Prophet)_ and the legend Muḥammad b. Sīrīn _(student of the Prophet’s personal attendant Anas b. Mālik)_ believed trimming the beard was a good thing, instead of just letting it grow long. 🧔 In fact, the Prophet’s great companion ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb _(God be pleased with him)_ himself once saw a man who had left his beard until it had become very large. So he grabbed it by its edges and said, _“Bring me some clippers,”_ and he told a man to trim everything beyond a handful. He then instructed the man, اذهب فأصلح شعرك أو أفسده “Go now and groom your hair, or just leave it unkempt.” يترك أحدكم نفسه حتى كأنه سبعٌ من السابع “One of you leaves himself (unkempt) until he looks like a wild animal?” (This was quoted by the early _mujtahid_ Imam al-Ṭabarī, and Ibn Baṭṭāl and al-ʿAynī in their commentaries on _Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)._

Has nothing to do with Arabs. Its a command the messenger of Allah SAW said to the Muslims it still applys to Muslims from all background, some people have full beards and others cannot grow full beards like some people. But nevertheless an obligation for those who can, which means do not cut the hair on face except mustache, a command statement to the Muslims and you are allowed to trim it if it passes a fist length from the chin. The ruling is let it go.

    • @BosomofAbraham
      @BosomofAbraham 8 років тому

The command was given to the Arabs of that time in that location. That is a fact. However, if there were non-Arabs in the mix and we assume that this applies to all Muslims, the first command is 'Look different than those who reject [me or God.]' Then comes the second stipulation which is to 'cut/shorten your mustaches and leave your beards/let your beards [grow.]' This is obviously related to a style that those who rejected God and who rejected the prophet Muhammad (saas) were known for wearing at the time. We know that in its most obvious sense these rejectors were the majority of the Quraysh and other Arabs tribes in contact with the last prophet (saas). Hence, it is was a general style of the Arabs at the time to leave their mustaches and their beards or to cut their beards and leave their mustaches.
The real question comes when we ponder what if those who reject God and/or the prophet Muhammad (saas) wear beards and cut their mustaches?! What then?! Remember the first command of that hadeeth is to 'Look different than those who reject [God and/or the prophet Muhammad (saas)].
Today, I don't see non-Muslims or atheists wearing any particular style of facial hair in such a way that you can clearly distinguish a non-Muslim from a Muslim. Many of them wear the same facial hair styles as Muslims. Secondly, there are many who claim to be Muslims but, who due their hypocrisy and rejection of clear commands in the Quran, reject the prophet Muhammad (saas) even when they claim to follow him. If we know that the punishment of someone who claims to be Muslim and kills another Muslim, not in self-defense, is the Hell-fire, then what is the status of such a person? Kaafir, without a doubt. How many terrorists slaughter innocents who profess 'laa ilaaha illa allah' and on top of that also profess 'wa Muhammadar-rasoolullah' ? And these wretched and vile murderers always impeccably cut their mustaches and leave their beards. Should we not also try to look different from them?
Lastly, there are many commands of the prophet Muhammad (saas) in hadeeth that are taken to be suggestions and not commands, even when they are commands. Like where it is claimed that the last prophet (saas) said for the believers to wear white clothes. Or when he gave Ali a command to not write 'messenger of God' after Muhammad (saas) when he wrote the treaty with the rest of the Quraysh and Ali refused to obey him, and this was not considered Kufr or a violation of the religion.
So how do we know what is a suggestion and what is not? What is the criteria? Why are scholars allowed to pick and choose arbitrarily? Why not err on the side of caution and make all the claims of commands of the prophet Muhammad (saas) in the hadeeth suggestions and not obligatory commands if they are not redundant to Quranic commands?

    • @BosomofAbraham
      @BosomofAbraham 8 років тому

Choosing arbitrarily is not an excuse all on its own no matter the qualifications. Decisions that affect all should be made through sound, demonstrable reasoning. I'll let the jeer slide. Be well, whatever your age may be.

+Saracen Black Romans. Why you keep saying choosing arbitrarily. What do you mean? How is it arbitrarily?

    • @BosomofAbraham
      @BosomofAbraham 8 років тому

What is the logic used to determine whether a command by the last prophet (saas) is conditional and dependent upon certain circumstances, just a suggestion or an absolute command despite all of them being direct commands? If the scholars cannot clearly express the methodology that they use then they make these decision arbitrarily and that is not acceptable. It is clear from the above example that the command is circumstantial, yet it is taken as an absolute command by so many Muslim scholars. None of them express any other opinion than 'the prophet commanded us to do it, so we do it.' Yet if you dig deeper you see that commands of the prophet can be circumstantial or just suggestions. So what is the methodology for determining that? If that cannot be shown in a clear fashion for those who would like to know and are capable of understanding, then it would seem that their decision making process is arbitrary. It is unacceptable for scientists, logicians, engineers and the like to make decisions arbitrarily. If they do, then they must at the very least admit to as much.

I've not heard in this talk of how shortening the dress, nor lengthening the beard elevates you above those who do the contrary. Likewise, I've not heard in this speach that the speaker, may Allaah guide him, is attempting to compel anyone to accept a particular side; for or against. If you have issues with those who do the above, then that is something YOU have to take between you and Allaah.
    Wa Alaahu Ta'aala A'lim

There are evidences to show that its a Sunnah Wajib.
      Evidence#1 Clothing above ankles
      Evidence#2 Beard

Belief is not in the lengthening of the beard or shortening of the dress. That's your understanding and you do not have any authority to impose your belief upon others.
In the past, say 150yrs and earlier, men kept their beards or shaved them seldom because it was hard and difficult to do so. Imagine shaving with a knife and water. Today we have, thanks to technology, one can shave easily.
Imagine travelling from Africa to Mecca on a camel, donkey or horse for pilgrimage. Today you fly.

The prophet did shave his head. Meaning to shave some hair in one's body, is not that difficult that time. If shaving is nothing that time, it gonna be time where prophet shave his beard completely.

Knife and water, bruvvvvv, people back then had equipment to shave its not a modern thing. 'That's your understanding' what are you talking about, your understand, that's not how Islam works. We take the understanding of the messenger of Allah SAW and the salfi-u-saleehen. How you you think they did it during hajj and umrah. Knife and water, you must be young.
