I have 2 Rode NTG2 and 2 AKG C1000s mounted high pointing down to the congregation and 2 AT 871 boundary mics mounted on the A Frame left and right. Picks up a noce rounded sound.
I wasn't too sure small-diaphragm condensers with a cardioid pickup pattern could get the job done; because most folks on here recommend shotgun mics. I guess I'll test my pair of matched condensers next week and then see what results we can get. Thanks, mate. God bless
I was skeptical at first too. But cardioid sounds way better in our room. For those who have a larger room, a blend of cardioid and shotgun mics should be considered.
Yeah, I've seen both. And a mixture of both. Pencil condensers work best in our room because the audience is close to the stage. In a bigger room, I'd probably incorporate shotgun mics as well.

I'm having a huge issue with my ambient mics -- I have set them up, and I have them routed to our p16's and we can hear them great! However, no matter how much I send them to the live stream mix, we can't hear them in our live stream... What am I doing wrong? How do I route them so that we can hear them in the livestream bus as well as the p'16's? HELP! :) Thanks!
It definitely doesn't hurt to experiment, but this will likely create more problems with you mix than it's worth. If you choose to experiment, don't forget to program in the right amount of delay on the mics since they will be quite a distance from the main speakers.
Great Video! One question...How do you set the mics so they are not in the room. Do you have to set the insert for Pre fader and then leave the mic for the main off but not muted?
Simply disable them in the stereo bus. If you are using the X32, select the ambient mic and then tap the "STEREO BUS" button to the left of the X32s screen to disable it.

We do on ours. Gives it a much more live feel. We feel like it helps you connect to it more when you can hear the congregations responses in the audio.
If you are running a mono mix for your live stream, one mic is enough. But I highly recommend running a stereo mix for your live stream. In that case, it's going to be much better to have two ambient mics.
What if you want to use condenser mics for live stream for house sound. Buy your sound board does not separate live stream. Only set up to send what's coming through the soundboard to livestream. Can you still use ambient mikes for house sound without feedback

I'm an amateur and just starting to run my mics thru my stream BLACKMAGIC ATEM via my mixer verses using a cardiod mic to pic up the whole room. My ceiling mic is behind the congregation and aiming towards the speakers. Can I just aim the mic downward towards the congregation if I have shotgun mic as I want to ensure I don't have the feedback or double sound from my house speakers
It would be best to move your mics to the front of the room and aim them at the congregation. With them in the back of the room, you'll struggle with timing alignment and picking up the audience when the mic is behind them (kind of like if a vocalist pointed the mic the other direction when singing).
@@collabworship is there a mic you would suggest to capture the whole room verses congregation, instruments and vocals. I think direct vocal sound won't work because you are not able to cover up bad notes. Ha!

I set it up and send the sound to PC through usb routing for multi track recording and the daw receives it well I can see signal coming in, but can’t hear any sound from the mic, however, other channels has no problem. FYI, I turn off main bus from the mic channel so it doesn’t go to room audio. And I want to send mixed sound with the ambient one to Zoom as well. Could u give any thought?
Well if you turn them off in the main bus, you won't hear then through the pa, but you should still hear them on the recorded tracks. Maybe better to send them to the main bus and just mute them. They should still get recorded even if they are muted.
Great question. We leave them on through the message so you can hear the response of the congregation. The only time we mute is before and after the service during the pre-roll and post-roll slides.

Thank you for this video. I'm looking for a mixer for a church which is back in session and is live streaming. I'm new to live streaming and the event I recorded for them today didn't sound as good as the in person experience. I had one mic for the Pastor, 1 mic for a singer, one line in for the keyboard 1, line out for audio speaker and all that sent to a iPhone for Facebook live. So no crowd noise or drums/bongos. So it did not sound well. As I re-watch the live stream, as they were hitting the drums, no real sound came out nor was there real crowd noise. Can you recommend a mixer that would help that has compression and I keep hearing it should be a "broadcast mix" separate from the house mix. Which Budget ($400) mixer will get me both? Thank you so much.
@@exclusivelynyc also depends on what you are streaming to and the bit stream etc. Ours used to sound terrible until we swithced to you tube and used ATEM mini pro. Best bang for the buck,
I’m using 2 sm57s. The 2 main speakers are on stands at the end of the stage. Wouldn’t it be better to put the mics in front of the speakers instead of behind since there’ll be better rejection from behind the mics?

To pull this off, you'd need to have an FX Bus specifically for the live stream. Then, send your ambient mics to that bus, and the FX returns to the live stream bus.

Hey Patrick - to keep your ambient mic out of the room mix, select the mic and disable it in the mono/stereo bus using the buttons to the left of the screen on the X32.
We use Stereo Matrix from the M32 to audio Stream, how can I do to route the Amb Mic to Matrix without affecting the PA, or just can do it when I use an Aux Send?,
My question is how to keep the ambient mix from going to the house. I cant figure out how to keep it from going to house and still remain in the stream.
Are you using the X32? If so, select the ambient mic channel and deselect the "MONO" and "STEREO" bus buttons to the left of the X32's screen. This will disable it in your main mix.
so this will keep the sound coming out of the main speakers at church, but will still pick up the congregation for livestream. We wanna be able to pick up someone who is opening up the service with prayer and don't have a microphone. To just be able to pick up the whole room so there is not any silent moment on livestream. @@collabworship

When you were referring to the Mic's doubling for the IEM's, what specifically were you referencing? Adding ambient noise to the iems?

We tried cardioid and shotgun at our church and cardioid sounded much better. Some churches us 4+ mics and a combination of both.

Hey Joe - This is definitely a unique situation. It might be best to use a room reverb instead of ambient micing a small room like that.

The X32 is one of the best mixers that will give you both mixes from one mixer.

They need to be about 6 feet away from your speakers. At our church, we have them about 6ft under the speakers and it works great.

i send crowd mic to buss, buss to matrix (streaming), but i need some fx on crowd mic, not effecting to PA. please help me out.

Hey Jerran - Are you using the USB audio interface on the back of the X32? If so, it sends every channel raw (regardless of mute) to the PC/Mac.
