Honestly I disagree with the "walking around feels weightless" and stuff. To me, the wading through the current, and slow stomping makes him feel way heavier.
Base skin wise I think Naut needs elements from the deep sea. Make him growing coral on him or bits of seaweed like the crew of the Flying Dutchman from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Nautilus was always my favorite design in League of Legends. Something about a Big Daddy ( Bioshock ) looking diver coming out from the sea in that is so cool to me. But sadly, they don't take him seriously. If he was taken seriously, he would be more accurate in how he should look and act. He's a walking tank, and his story is dark. But that doesn't reflect his in-game character. Nautilus is my main support, and I'd love an ASU as his abilities to me are perfect. His hook is so good.
I actually think his E ought to be base + % max health, with the AP scaling only affecting the flat part. This is the main thing he's missing versus a lot of top/jungle flex picks. You could also reduce its cooldown again. Alternatively, change the cooldown to flat 7 and flat 60 mana cost, but make it so that it refunds 15% remaining CD and mana each time Nautilus immobilizes an enemy champion. They nerfed it because spamming E in support nautilus was *insanely* oppressive, but if each wave deals like 20 - 50 + 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4% max health damage, he can maximize its efficacy in the Jungle without the damage being oppressive in support role.
Rise, Rapture, rise We turn our hopes up to the skies Rise, Rapture, rise We'll go down with our sinking paradise Holy fuck. If they ever rewrite Nautilus backstory. I want them to canonized some kind of sinking dystopia with Nautilus as someone who happens to stumble upon and becomes the mainstay of that place
Nautilus looks like a Scooby Doo villain. He looks like a dude dressed as a ghost scaring people off the property for the doubloons sunk in the nearby lake.
Ah my main. Love this boi. So simple, so satisfying. And yeah, baby's first Thresh is spot on. I fall back to Nautilus when I just want to play. Thresh for when I want to be sweaty. And I guess there are other characters in the game or something? Who don't have hooks? And his Legends of Runeterra voice lines making him grumpy grandpa to the seas creatures is wonderful.
11:36 the thing is, naut has a nasty cc chain, so if he landed anything or even if he didnt, you die in the gank. He fell behind in clear speed and riot had no interest in keeping that playstyle so they canned it and kicked him from jungle.
On the topic of Nautilus being a boss in the league MMO, I think it would be more impactful if he starts off as a world boss before going onto be an actual raid boss. Imagine going about your business in bilgewater and before leaving for another region or something you have the option to pay the tithe to not have nautilus show up and prevent you from reaching your destination, but if you have a significant enough group of players you can fight him to drive him off for some items and a large sum of gold from previous collected tithes.
9:50 as many ways as it fails (including being a blizzard game), heroes of the storm has some excellent spectacular scale. it isnt applied as much with characters but tychus has an ultimate where he can call in a mech and pilot it around and the mech is actually really big and one big difference it has to league is that there's multiple maps in the main gamemode, with their own objectives. there's a diablo map that's a battleground between heaven and hell and these 2 giant warriors battle it out and you have to help them as tiny mortals and its awesome
It's crazy to see that we are almost at 100 of these videos ! You've been going at it for almost two years and I've been watching (almost) religiously every week ! All those fanarts everytime, it shows that the viewers love this show and are very dedicated ! You've created a great series Nicky I hope you know this !
finally got to one of my mains, woooo people often mention naut’s story is so similar to pyke’s, which yeah i think i agree. i feel like the blueprint of those similar stories works better for pyke, because he’s more of a human being and an actual character than how it was put, a force of nature like nautilus, so they should go with the alternate version of naut’s story where he was described as pretty much “timeless, nautilus was always there we don’t know his origin if he is or even was a human behind that diver suit and he was always the enforcer of the bilgewater tithe” to differentiate himself from pyke’s more personal vengeance story. unfortunately it would lose the whole “he became the superstition” thing which i agree is awesome but too similar to pyke, both need to have their own identities i feel. on the design honestly yeah i wish naut was bigger, it would make him stand out in his modern role as support, imagine how unique that would be for a support to be that massive like no other, and it would make sense among other tank supports who aren’t as supernatural or more human-like in their personality and features. basically all the tank supports minus naut are humans except for tahm kench, but i think he shouldn’t be that large because tahm kench should be alluring and approachable and disguise himself as a “friend”, so making him huge would be unfitting imo. on your point about nautilus jungle i think he cant jungle that well for two reasons: -riot probably doesn’t want good tank junglers because they make pro play boring -his ganks don’t work well in jungle because his hook is blocked by all the twisty and complex terrain, so his hook works better in an open lane with less things to obstruct it, and even better on support where you don’t need to CS so you get to position in really aggressive ways without much consequence. because of aforementioned freedom from farming.
Counterpoint: in the jungle, his hook has an incredibly reliable fallback prospect if aimed well. In other words, you're hooking to get closer to your target. If you near-miss in the jungle and hit a wall, you still get closer to the target and get a huge refund on the Q cd. In an open lane, if you miss, you're actually further from the target than you started, so in theory, Nautilus should be scarier in the jungle in the hands a capable pilot. The problem of course being that Nautilus can't actually *do* anything once he's close to his target. He needs to land the Q so that his allies gain ground on the target and can actually do all the damage.
Hey you finally talked about my favourite champion and character (Its been 84 years)! Ok, a couple of things I picked up on, so as far as I can piece together in regards to the timeline (which I realise isn't very reliable at the moment, or any moment for that matter) you mentioned that he would have been around at the time of the blessed isles but to me it just seemed like a name that stuck around because everything I can find points to him being from much later, AS IN the salvage and stuff they were finding at the ocean floor might have been from a civilisation such as the Blessed Isles, which would explain why there would have been so many riches to find at one point, because they had their advanced trinkets and magic artefacts and whatnot so realistically any ship that would have come from Helia could hold priceless things. Probably that means that at the time of the ruination it's likely that only the buhru resided at the Serpent Isles. That said it's largely unspecified how much later he actually did exist, in my interpretation he should have been around at the beginning of the treasure hunting expeditions taking place near the Serpent Isles, which I think was a main reason why Bilgewater managed to grow and thrive for some time. Then between the time of his death and his reawakening it's been many years, mainly enough years for his former crew to die but in such a perilous industry that doesn't tell us much. ITS VERY UNCLEAR. But it seems that from the time of his reawakening to "modern day" it's been enough time for him to become a bit of a legend (laugh). One more thing is, I noticed you brought up the problem with him and Pyke practically using the same backstory, except there is no problem, everything is great and they are both great and fantastic. What I mean is, as an enjoyer of this character trope, the more the merrier. If they had somehow turned out to be very similar in the ways they act and their attitudes, or ended up looking similar, I would absolutely understand criticising their past. But their current forms absolutely cannot be confused for each other (unlike some league champs...), not to mention that vengeance as a motivation is not in any way unique to just these two characters, it's okay for both of them to have a piece of this trope cake as well. They are both very cool and good, and when Wild Rift released them together I thought it was really nice of them to just acknowledge their similarities while completely proving that they are so different in so many ways. Since neither of them is particularly joyful I headcanon them to be on good terms and I think they would enjoy playing battleships together. I think that's all. No wait also his diving suit being really old school and with red metals involved is just perfect but I agree it could have been executed a bit better. Also whoever built it as a diving suit needs to be fired asap I know technology has had its rough patches even in our world before it could evolve properly but I know a death trap when I read about one. Like I know it probably wasn't built for what he encountered but that thing wouldn't even have lasted even if everything else went as planned. Honestly that thing could have been built by Oceangate, and that wouldnt be their first titan of the depths man I'm just upset at people's ignorance sometimes (both real and fictional). Ok that's everything. TL;Dr 1. Naut is an old boi but not ancient. 2. Pyke and Naut can coexist. 3. I forgot so I'll just say Nautilus is epic and the best character in the game. Oh and he has a funny passive.
Fun fact the thing that really stopped naut jungle (or at least me and every other naut jungle main I know) was them nerfing his move speed, made rotating absolutely miserable
I could see a way to compromise his size to feel titanic. Remove his legs, increase the size of his upper body, and make a ring-like water effect around him like he is coming out of the sea. He is already a mythical creature/godlike being, so him bringing out a piece of the ocean whenever he is shouldn't be a problem.
The reason that Naut's and Pykes lore are so similar is because Pykes lore is Nauts old lore. I don't quite remember the reason, but something something would be better fitted for Pyke. So they gave Naut a new one, just seems that they didn't have so many ideas what to do with him, so they just made a copy and plastered it onto him. Basically the typical "can I copy your homework? Sure but don't make it do obvious" just that they take the original homework and have you stuck with the copy.
Hell you could even see his kit as raidboss mechanics passive- constant CC meaning you have to tank swap Q - dodge the hooks to not get cc'd and pulled in as a healer or dps class W- Enrage phase E- raidwide damage that you have to walk TOWARDS to take less damage R- Tracking ult on a healer that knocks up everyone in the way they have to kite around away from the raid group.
I used to play naut jungle back in the day and you pretty much hit the nail on the head as to why he got pushed out of the jungle with his clear speed falling off. The other reason he got pushed out was that he wasn't independent enough so he got counter jungled pretty easily and if your teammates suck or don't follow up you were screwed.
5:00 personaly i belive he got REALY unlucky and the ruination just append when he was lowered in to the sea, he was close to the blessed/Shadow Isle after all
I do wonder if, for a future vgu or asu, it'd be benificial to see more of his human personality come out; maybe even let us see what he looks like underneath the suit, like they did for Pantheon (granted Panth showing his human face is part of his character). I like the idea of Nautilus looking and acting like a grandpa, kinda, trying to make sure everyone respects the tides. Maybe he could look like an old man with a big beard, like Reinhardt in OW, but give him the Davey Jones treatment and make his beard made out of tentacles and be covered in barnacles. I also think making Nautilus more friendly, yet stern, could help differentiate him from Pyke a bit more.
Back when Nautilus first came out nobody really picked him but i loved him. I was horrible and could only do support. So i just played Naut supp. and every Ezereal and Vayne that i teamed up with had a killing field at bot lane. Installed league 8 to 10 years later and i see no changes. It hurts but its funny
12:20 speaking of thematic fantasy, completely unrelated, but I swear either Nicky or Necrit did a thematic fantasy tier list and now I can't find it anywhere
I think some champs should have these big boss moments or fantasies like Ragnaros in HOTS who eventually just becomes the raid boss hes suposed to be with his special... I think the closest thing we have is like Renekton and Nasus growing up a little bit and going nuts or maybe Aatrox turning into a lifesteal freak, but, nothing more than that-
I think in the MMO he could work really well in the same way the Butcher works in diablo 4, option to pay the tithe or not, if you or someone in the dungeon dont pay you have like a 1% chance of Nautilus just breaking a part of the map and spawning as a giant hard boss out of nowhere
Oddly enough his Warden skin somereason makes it look bigger or least bulkier which might be because of the wing like pauldrons and armor, which might be why I kept using it to give him that titanic feeling even if it's an optical illusion.
i call him in polish „muszla klozetowa” and it translates to „toilet bowl” but its funnier in polish because no one uses the word „klozet” and it sounds hilarious and fits his old goofy model perfectly edit: ah and muszla also means conch so yeah
Dont make Nautilus a Raid boss. That implies we can beat him. Make him a Dungeon. You gotta fight your way off of a ship, to another and across a dock while he crunches all behind you into splinters.
For all its faults, I do think Heroes of the Storm does this kind of size difference in champions very well at times. Deathwing is one of the largest MOBA characters I've seen, by default, and it really makes you feel like you are playing as a giant raid boss
bring back his w burn damage, make his w do max health damage, make his e bigger with a stronger slow and increase its range, make his r faster when chasing an enemy. thats what i want in a nautilus top
you know Nicky, your channel grown into me. First I thought I would not like that much after I dropped league. But damn, you have something special, a real comunnity, a good voice and well done friday videos, those casual reviews are really nice to watch and I will be expecting more lmao. Thank you for your work, I will be waiting for more projects your heart will bring to us
Gonna be honest he shouldn't be a raid boss he should be a secret boss that you trigger by doing a bunch of secret quest related to getting a boat and sailing off shore and then after beating him you get like a HUGE mount just because he's a chonky boi
Hey nicky i think u missing the fact he died by the blessed isle. So he is what he si because of what Veigo did. The tentacles idk monster or Illaoi's god maybe?
I think rell is in a similar position as nautilus, the girl able to control metal trained to beat MORDEKAISER that hates noxus and the black rose, a lonely spirit trying to get revenge, is in LoL a support that deals no damage It seems like she was supposed to be a toplaner but riot at the last moment decided she was a support. She has shields, before the rework, she had self healing, and also she steals resistances on hit, that seems like a fighter tank on paper. Did you know she has a voiceline when she gets a pentakill? How are you supposed to get a penta being support
I love nautilus and i hate that hes this whole revenge mariner ..then they made pyke who had revenge marineer story and a hook champ wich makes me sad because nautilus deserves alot of love
i mean it sounds like he is continuing the myth. it happened to him. just because we dont know means nothing. 100 drives with paid tithe, no issue. 101 drive no tithe, smoke!
On one hand i get it, on the other why the hell could we not have gigantic champions ? The idea they wouldn't work at all comes from riot. Smite has stuff like Jormungandrr and Ctuhlu and just work. Hell the massive size could even help tank champions fullfill their role of meat shields for the back line.
He may look goofy, but his theme in the cinematic admittedly gives him insane aura.
Even the thought of how you're gonna beat him if he was accurately tall too
Honestly I disagree with the "walking around feels weightless" and stuff. To me, the wading through the current, and slow stomping makes him feel way heavier.
itd be cute if naut had a special voiceline for when samira throws her coin away
Base skin wise I think Naut needs elements from the deep sea. Make him growing coral on him or bits of seaweed like the crew of the Flying Dutchman from Pirates of the Caribbean.
A good joke for the intro could have been "Why doesn't it matter if you lose a match as naut? Because its naut-a-lose"
😐
You have to leave 😡
🙁

Get a load of this guy

Volibear managed to become this brutal and savage demigod yet still retain some of his goofiness, so the capability is there.

Holy fuck. If they ever rewrite Nautilus backstory. I want them to canonized some kind of sinking dystopia with Nautilus as someone who happens to stumble upon and becomes the mainstay of that place
I love the interactions lor gave him! He's like the tired uncle from the deeps, a friend of pyke and a masive fizz hater (me).

To hook or not to hook.
Always hook, there is no other way.
@@papertowels9162 Would it be suicidal to hook right now?
That thought takes too long to have. I've already thrown the hook!
11:36 the thing is, naut has a nasty cc chain, so if he landed anything or even if he didnt, you die in the gank. He fell behind in clear speed and riot had no interest in keeping that playstyle so they canned it and kicked him from jungle.

on your point about nautilus jungle i think he cant jungle that well for two reasons:
-riot probably doesn’t want good tank junglers because they make pro play boring
-his ganks don’t work well in jungle because his hook is blocked by all the twisty and complex terrain, so his hook works better in an open lane with less things to obstruct it, and even better on support where you don’t need to CS so you get to position in really aggressive ways without much consequence. because of aforementioned freedom from farming.
Counterpoint: in the jungle, his hook has an incredibly reliable fallback prospect if aimed well. In other words, you're hooking to get closer to your target. If you near-miss in the jungle and hit a wall, you still get closer to the target and get a huge refund on the Q cd. TL;Dr
1. Naut is an old boi but not ancient.
2. Pyke and Naut can coexist.
3. I forgot so I'll just say Nautilus is epic and the best character in the game.
Oh and he has a funny passive.
Nautilus: born to be a titanic ocean Monsters, forced to be silly
I love the snapcuts to grey screens XD, especially 10:44
Fun fact the thing that really stopped naut jungle (or at least me and every other naut jungle main I know) was them nerfing his move speed, made rotating absolutely miserable
Yeah, the only other jungler with that low movement speed, is Kindred, and they deal more damage an have a lot of mobility outside base speed
7:32
I love that he brings up Malph and Asol and then says ‘especially Naut’ my brother
11:18 I disagree, some nautilus mains and even LoR started viewing him in a good light, he's a good guy now
The reason that Naut's and Pykes lore are so similar is because Pykes lore is Nauts old lore.
Hell you could even see his kit as raidboss mechanics
passive- constant CC meaning you have to tank swap
Q - dodge the hooks to not get cc'd and pulled in as a healer or dps class
W- Enrage phase
E- raidwide damage that you have to walk TOWARDS to take less damage
R- Tracking ult on a healer that knocks up everyone in the way they have to kite around away from the raid group.
Skin ideas for Nautilus:
Definitely Not Nautilus (Not-ilus)
Piggy Bank Nautilus (DID YOU PAY)
Mecha Nautilus (Pacific Rim vibes)
The ohhh no at the end killed me
Thank god he didn't edit out Ninjaslash90's racism at the end for those who wish to see him banned
I used to play naut jungle back in the day and you pretty much hit the nail on the head as to why he got pushed out of the jungle with his clear speed falling off. 5:00 personaly i belive he got REALY unlucky and the ruination just append when he was lowered in to the sea, he was close to the blessed/Shadow Isle after all
No matter how much time passes, Nautilus will always have the funniest joke animation.
nautilus is like such a cute shape knowing that he's supposed to be FEARED is kinda crazy you'd think they'd lean more into the Big Daddy angle!
at 3:30 if you edit out your deaths, did they ever really happen? learned about this game changing move from Darkkmane. What a legend
I've wondered if the Naut feel would be better if he simply dragged the anchor instead of carrying it
Nautilus could increase in size with gold collected. It’s like he’s collecting the tithe, thus the legend expands increasing his power

I love naut. He was a champ I played for a long stretch. It's just so fun bouncing people around. It's a shame he doesn't do any damage past 12.
I think in the MMO he could work really well in the same way the Butcher works in diablo 4, option to pay the tithe or not, if you or someone in the dungeon dont pay you have like a 1% chance of Nautilus just breaking a part of the map and spawning as a giant hard boss out of nowhere
The return of AP NAUTILUS, THE FISHING MASTER.
5:30 the sheer presence of nautilus's anchor gave the deer a swift death :(
The main reason I like Nautilus is because the name and oceanic theme reminds me of 20.000 Leagues under the sea
Ya missed the whole part that nautilus fucken destroyed gps ship because fizz stopped the coin frommgoing in the water
Oddly enough his Warden skin somereason makes it look bigger or least bulkier which might be because of the wing like pauldrons and armor, which might be why I kept using it to give him that titanic feeling even if it's an optical illusion.
To be honest I love his LoR design it makes him so much cool and serious
You should do a ranking video based on all the X/10 you’ve given champions when you run out.
i call him in polish „muszla klozetowa” and it translates to „toilet bowl” but its funnier in polish because no one uses the word „klozet” and it sounds hilarious and fits his old goofy model perfectly
edit: ah and muszla also means conch so yeah
Dont make Nautilus a Raid boss. That implies we can beat him.
Make him a Dungeon. You gotta fight your way off of a ship, to another and across a dock while he crunches all behind you into splinters.
Darkmane lore reference 🗣️🔥
I don't even play league of legends, curse you Skyen shorts
His Crystallus mythic skin (with the chroma) was a sleeper hit! Glad I got it, I play Naut more now haha
Pay the tithe ⚓️
Godamn I miss Nautilus jungle...
They really need to give my boi a new model. Rework maybe make him actually look scary.
R O C K S O L-oh wait wrong champion
No Naut November ended, billions must hook.
When I saw New Dawn before ever playing LoL, I legit thought Nautilus was a jungle boss
I just watched Caedrel choked on his Nautilus play and then YT recommended me Nicholas J Boi's Casual Review of Nautilus.
Nice
MY BOI. I wish he’s more viable in the jungle again
You’re in the deep end now!
It's time for Naughty Nautilus
i build heartsteel every game so that i can get as close to him looking imposing as its posibble, fingers crossed riot will fix his model one day
I really like Nautilus and I read his story as a Scooby Doo legends. He just looks the part, just a gun in a costume, not the ACTUAL legend.
For all its faults, I do think Heroes of the Storm does this kind of size difference in champions very well at times. Deathwing is one of the largest MOBA characters I've seen, by default, and it really makes you feel like you are playing as a giant raid boss
Idk why but to make his animations better I thought he could maybe drag the anchor behind him instead over his shoulder
He gon' beware the depths w/ this one
bring back his w burn damage, make his w do max health damage, make his e bigger with a stronger slow and increase its range, make his r faster when chasing an enemy. thats what i want in a nautilus top
Naut is another one of those "saved by lor champs"
THE NAUTI BOI!
you know Nicky, your channel grown into me.
Naut looks silly because hes forced to exist in league of legends. you imagine him in a normal human setting and hes fucking horrifying
How long did you come up with those title Nicky?
Hey nicky i think u missing the fact he died by the blessed isle. So he is what he si because of what Veigo did. The tentacles idk monster or Illaoi's god maybe?
Naut my beloved support
I think rell is in a similar position as nautilus, the girl able to control metal trained to beat MORDEKAISER that hates noxus and the black rose, a lonely spirit trying to get revenge, is in LoL a support that deals no damage
It seems like she was supposed to be a toplaner but riot at the last moment decided she was a support. She has shields, before the rework, she had self healing, and also she steals resistances on hit, that seems like a fighter tank on paper.
Did you know she has a voiceline when she gets a pentakill? How are you supposed to get a penta being support
I love him being goofy
Counter argument : he looks like a big daddy (bioshock)
Make Nautilus's size scale with gold he spends
ok he got huge because and hear me out here: deep sea gigantism.
he already have cool design in LOR he really need ASU
Yay, Mr Bubbles!
Where is the part 2 review from arcane?
I thought Nautilus was a Titan from the Vastayashai'rei's era. Dont remember why
Is Nautilus just fucking Cryptid of Runeterra.
I love nautilus and i hate that hes this whole revenge mariner
..then they made pyke who had revenge marineer story and a hook champ wich makes me sad because nautilus deserves alot of love
i mean it sounds like he is continuing the myth. it happened to him. just because we dont know means nothing.
Hell the massive size could even help tank champions fullfill their role of meat shields for the back line.
hope neeko gets a rework which makes her a chymera of all the creatures shw was shifting into and then we'll see your body horror review 😂
I see Naut as more of the superstition becoming reality definitely while I few Pyke as like leagues take on spawn
What was Karthus' intended Role?
How dare you !?
He is just perfect the way he is 😡😤
Tbh I still think Nautilus looks cool, but I can see why he looks goofy to some people. I agree that he’d look cooler if he was bigger though.
I liked the video to pay the tithe
LoL Nautilus is built like killer bean
Eve backdoored in a game with Yorick? What was Yorick doing?
nicky go doctor. thank you
P A Y T H E T I D E
