- Hey all! I need to give a shout out to Jeanette at Mi Cottage Crafts, Rachel at Roxy Creations, Rosanne at Roxycar11 and Anne Brooke for giving me permission to start yet another project! :-) How could I not when it's slow stitching! Funny, I didn't realize there was a specific name for this, I always thought it was just "primitive fiber art." I've been itching to do this type of thing for awhile. So, thank you guys!! (This is why it's important to just show what you're working on in your videos, because you never know when it might be the very thing that somebody is interested in!) Hope everybody's well. Take care.
"When the muse hits you over the head you'd better listen".....Thank you so very much for this work of art detailing Slow Stitching. I'd never heard it called this, but the perfection of timing for the 'MUSE" to bring me to this type of creativity is humbling and powerful all at once.
New beginning today.
Thank you, Andrea. I hope you find as much peace and joy slow stitching as I have. Take care and thank you for your kind words. xo
Hi, new subscriber. I really love slow stitching. Rachel with Roxy Creations got me to pull out my old DMC and fabrics. I also love watching Anne. So relaxing.
Thanks for subbing! While I've been crazy quilting for awhile, it's a lot "fussier" than slow stitching. So, I'm absolutely loving my time doing this. I hope you make something you love. Take care. xx
Hello! New subscriber! Love the colors you used! Just ordered your kit! Received the kit in brown & black, disappointed in colors,I wanted the pink kit with pastels!
A favorite quote of mine is from Abraham Lincoln. "I will prepare and some day my time will come." ... or something close to that. Anyway, I've been collecting fabric for decades and my time has come - literally. Staying home due to Covid has given me the gift of time to find super people like you (and Anne, Rachel, and more) AND to try this! Calling it slow stitching seems to give me permission to go at my own speed. I love primitive fabrics and patch stitching. This combination is very satisfying to my heart. So, being a journal maker, I immediately set upon making covers. The first three were so pretty that I made gratitude journals for gifts and out the door they went! I made two more; one for ME as a gratitude journals and another one for me just to keep close by for notes. I love looking at them so much. I'm gathering supplies for a wall hanging and wonder how you intend to finish your edges. I'm a new subbie and look forward to more of your videos. I'd be interesting in kits - but agree, don't need the thread. Thanks so much for this video, your block is very appealing - a combination of my favorite colors. I also love making quilted hearts and tea dye them before incorporating into projects. Sorry this is so long. Thanks.
Oh, don't apologize for the length of your comment. I so look forward to this kind of interaction with people who watch my videos!! I love it. I do know what you mean. Covid, however horrible it is, has also given me a lot more time to just concentrate on creating. Before, I would create quite a bit, but somehow always felt a little guilty about it and had plenty of distractions. But now, it's like, I've got nowhere else to be so, yeah. Time to use up that stash!!! I keep going back and forth between paper and fabric, paper and fabric. Loving each one equally. I also love the primitive fabrics. Again, there's a part of me that loves all the frills, laces and feminine style, but then I equally love the primitive, grungy, rustic look. I can just never make up my mind which I love more! Thanks for watching. Take care.
Your piece is just lovely Lauretta and how beautiful is that blue floral fabric! Thank you so much for the sweet mention, I have a day at home today so I'm hoping to do a little more in my book, it's such a calming and pleasant way to spend some time :) take care
- Jeanette
Thank you! That blue floral fabric is going to be the one fabric I use in all the blocks, like Anne mentioned. Thank you so much for the inspirations. XX
Helloooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! I just discovered your channel and Etsy store! Long story how I landed here but here it goes! LOL I was up late last night and on UA-cam and saw a video of a gal doing a tiny haul video of one of your kits! It was a purple kit and her mom Jeannie Dreemer had bought it from your Etsy store and you sent it to her. It was beautiful! I have NEVER slow stitched but I was so impressed by how your kit had literally everything for someone like me(a newbie!) to get started and it was packaged with love and care too! So I ran over to Etsy today and bought the polka dot one. Seriously I had a hard time deciding which one to buy but knowing my luck if I waited to long trying to decide it might not be there when I go buy it! So I just jumped in both feet and bought the one my heart smiled for first! I then went back and rewatched the haul video and discovered Jeannie Dreemer has a UA-cam channel too! So I hopped over there and watched a video and commented on how sweet she is and how excited I am about this slow stitching kit I just bought just like the one she bought her daughter. She responded and told me you have a UA-cam channel too!!!! LOL So that is my long story on how I landed here! I was also told how incredibly talented you are too and so I will be watching and learning as much as possible! Thank you for my kit! I am super excited to start this adventure of Slow stitching! Happy 4th of July too!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for your kind words. I apologize for the delay in responding, but You Tube is not being very good about giving me notifications. I seem to only get notifications on the comments that I get within the first day or two of posting a video. I do hope you enjoy your kit and make something that you love. And Jeannie is just the sweetest, most amazing woman. I love her laugh. :-) Take care and welcome. xx
What a wonderful project! Kits are a great idea, there are lots of places where people would struggle to get stock for their project! I am following Anne and Rachel and their slow stitching projects as well it's been a great revival of an old pastime!
Thank you! I was thinking the same thing. Not only would some people struggle to get supplies, but some just can't (for whatever reason) cut the circles, hexies or heart, so I did it for them. Thank you for taking the time to comment, it really does mean a lot and it helps my channel. Take care. XX
Beautiful piece. Love Anne Brooke too.
She's something! I love her style. It's so funny, doing the exact same stitches, puffs, hexies etc, and yet, everybody's own style shines through. Take care!!
Awesome! Very smart to think to replace French knots with beads!!! I love pink and blue, too! 💗💙💗xo
Thank you! And thanks for watching. xx
Thanks to Roxy creations I found you and bought a kit...I have a stash but I enjoyed your idea...Anne Brooke is an inspiration, I also found her from Rachel ...been shopping in my stash during stay at home time...thank you from Minnesota 🌻
Wonderful! And welcome! Yeah, I thought the kits would be a good idea for people who maybe wanted to give it a try without investing too much, and also maybe they can't or don't want to cut those circles and hexies. (Also some people live in "dry" spots, where they don't have fabric or craft stores.) It seems like if I make it easier for people, then they will try it. And I've actually found it really rewarding, as I've had people contact me and tell me how much they loved the kits and they've started stitching. That just makes me super happy. Now, I have to tell you how much I love Minnesota! My husband was born there and he still has all sorts of family there and we visit any time we can. We even considered moving there for awhile. Take care and stay safe. xoxo
Yes I watched that also and loved what she did! Your so right, this was so worth even if you got a blister! It is so wonderful! I appreciate it because I can no longer hand stitch at all but I can do all the stitches and did it when I first started quilting! I loved doing it too! What a great derailment project! I love picking out fabric! I bet lots of people will love a kit to do this! Another great video! Love your project! Just beautiful and FYI.... I also stink at French knots!!!🙋🏻♀️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🍀
French knots are the worst! We should make a club or something. French Knot Haters Anonymous. :-) I love picking out fabric, too. But believe it or not, some people get really insecure about that part of the project. Take care!! xx
Awesome piece👍. Love 💜all the uses of different stitches throughout the page. It gives the eye more to ponder as you peruse the page. Thank you for sharing it with us. 🌈💛🙏💛🌈
Thank you Collen! Take care. xo
I love your block! It says it all... I enjoy hand sewing alot. With arthritis, sometimes it's tough, but I wil not quit. I do have my Sewing Machine but there's just something about hand sewing. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank you! And thanks for watching. I agree. I've had a ton of "hobbies" or creative outlets in my life, but the needle and thread has been there the longest and I suspect it always will be. The doctor told me that hand sewing is one of the things that actually helps with arthritis, because you keep your fingers moving. (A body in motion, stays in motion.) So, definitely don't stop! I also really enjoy "the basics" of it. Nothing technological. Thanks again for your lovely comment. Take care! xx
That’s a great square. I’ll check the others. Love your Suffolk puffs, lol. Beautiful heart from that inheritance, makes it very special. You have lots of great fabrics to choose from. I like that combination of colours too. Never thought I would, but your crazy quilt squares are just stunning. I’m a big fan! Hugs & blessings.
Thank you, Lenneke! Yes, check out the other slow stitching videos. Take care!!
I’m a little behind on your slow stitch projects. It’s beautiful and I know I would love a project like this. Love all the details and colors. tfs 💕
Thank you! It's very different from crazy quilting. In CQ the focus is on elaborate, perfect stitches in lots of varieties. This is just the opposite. It was a little hard to get used to, but also sort of "freeing." Take care, lady! XX
I know you have finished this project but I wanted to let you know how beautiful your piece is and how great your workmanship is. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you very much, Pam. That is so nice of you to share with me. Take care. xo
Hi Lauretta! This is stunning . I have made a start but you know how it is lol. So glad you are ok and look forward to seeing what you share next xo
Thank you so much! Yes, I do know how it is. ;-)

So glad I found your channel! Beautiful piece. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos! 😊
Thank you, Lisa! I hope you enjoy my projects, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. xo
Your stitching is also an inspiration along with Anne Brooke whom I’m also following. Love all your work!!❤️
Thank you so much, Doryce! Anne is really amazing. I'm happy you're gathering some inspiration. Take care!
Just found you. I love this . I have pieces guilts and love it. But your work is beautiful. I have lots of scraps and can't wait to start one. Looking forward to watching more of you. Thanks for the share. Love
Thank you and welcome! I hope you find some value here. Take care, xo

Thank you so much and thanks for taking the time to watch, Rachel!
Just love your work I’m Rhonda from Young New South Wales Australia
Thank you so much! Sorry it's taking me so long to reply, but You Tube is not giving me my notifications! I hope you're well in the land down under. Take care. xx
Very Pretty, I love what you have made . I just started to slow stitch like two days ago.. I have always loved it.
Thank you! I'm so happy you've jumped on the band wagon. :-) The more stitchers the better. Thank you for watching! xo
How wonderful! Really love the large square format and your colours are divine.
Thank you so much! I love those pinks, blues and tans. Take care! xx
Just beautiful! Your stitching and talk was very informative. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching. xo
Gorgeous!!!! New subscriber :) I would love a kit !!!!
Thankyou!
Love that square! Gorgeous!!! 💕💕. I’ve been using lots of yo yo’s lately. A very “heartfelt” 🥰. square.👩❤️👩💜👸🏽
I like slow stitching. Nice to do when you just want to wile away some time and relax. Ive always called it primitive stitching. I love primitive art full stop. I like what you have done. How do you fit it in with your blocks? You must work quickly. Great results, love what you have made so far. xx
Thank you so much, Mary. I always just called it "embroidery." lol. :-) I also love primitive art of all kinds. The slow stitching blocks will be a separate project from the crazy quilt blocks. Take care. XX
I love your Suffolk Puffs! This is wonderful. So inspiring. I have wanted to do something like this for a while but wasn’t sure where to start. I have looked at your getting started video and this one and now can’t wait to get started. Lots of love, or kind regards from Southam in England. 😘
Oh I'm so happy that you're going to give it a go! That just warms my heart to know you took a little inspiration from my videos. Take care from the Midwest of the US. Xo
This is wonderful a real heirloom piece, thank you so much for sharing 😊
Thank you so much, Jean. My pleasure. Take care. xx
Interesting, Lauretta, how things seem to come around from different directions. This is so much like "visible mending." I'm very interested in that... Mainly cause it's a little more simple than the beautiful things you make.
Thank you, Yvonne! I miss seeing your sweet face. If we can't get together this year, maybe next year. I have never heard the term "visible mending" but I absolutely love it and it is PERFECT for this type of work. Take care, sweetie! xx
Love it!
Thank you, sweetie. XX
This is a masterpiece Lauretta, so beautiful, love the colors you used. I have never even heard about slow stitching (I'm always slow when I hand stich anything). I'm sure there is a market for your slow stich packages, makes it easier to start a project. Hugs!
Thank you! Yeah, I'm not sure why it's called "slow stitching" I always thought it was just called embroidery! lol :-) I learn something new everyday. Take care, sweetie. XX
Beautiful piece Lauretta, this is something I want to try, l love hand sewing l find it relaxing, l need to watch some videos on the subject, love your fabric and lace stash too, tfs sweetheart stay safe, huge hugs x Julie 🇬🇧
Thank you, Julie! The good thing about these "slow stitching" projects is that beginners can do it and not feel intimidated. With crazy quilting, most CQers are like, "it's all about the perfect stitches," but with the slow stitching it does not matter a bit if they're the same size or if they're off. Raw edge is fine, too. So, it's a perfect beginner projects. I hope you try it! Thanks for watching and for your kind words. XX
So cute!
Would definitely be interested in getting a kit. Love your project and video
Thank you, Nancy! I'm going to restock the etsy store next week with new kits. Thanks for watching and commenting! Take care. xo
Beautiful layout I'm a newbie to this so I took photo's so I can learn I'm also gonna order slow stitching books on Amazon jst to get me started ... Also ur kits wud be a great idea for new people like me 😀
Thank you! It's a very forgiving hobby and perfect for beginners. I hope you have fun with it!! xo
Beautiful work!!!!
Thank you so much!
I absolutely love it.
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching. XX
Wow! This is GORGEOUS! I love your Heart! (I'm a Heart Girl) I love, love your idea of using the beads for the F-nots! I'm new and cannot find your Etsy store info please. TFS - Hugs, Christal
Thank you! I have three more blocks in this project to finish it. However, I'm thinking I may not get to them until after the first of the year. Thank you for watching! www.etsy.com/shop/SparrowhawkerDesigns
I really love this! I can't wait to try it! Tyfs!
Have fun with it! I hope you enjoy it. Take care. xo
You mentioned that it was hard going through 5 layers. Are you suggesting that you would do the embroidering and beading on just the heart first and then attach it with the blanket stitch later? I am just enjoying the idea of this project, but haven't done anything just yet so any beginners advice is very helpful to me. Thanks.
In hindsight, and for beginners, yes, it would probably be best if you decorated the heart first. The thing is, the heart was a quilted piece already, then the fabrics I put down, then the batting for the whole piece, so it was quite a bit to go through. I think I used my pliers at one point. :-) Whatever gets the job done! I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask about anything else. Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care! xo
Love your project. Do you have a leak to your Etsy store. I would love to buy a kit
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. UA-cam does not always alert me when I get comments on older videos. I think there are two kits up in my shop right now. The link to my store should be in the lower right hand corner of the banner on my UA-cam Channel, but here it is just in case you can't find it. www.etsy.com/shop/SparrowhawkerDesigns
I would love to see how you finish this and make the wallhanging.
I will definitely show it once it's finished. I'm not sure if I can figure out a way to show the actual sewing and construction of it. We'll see if my video skills get any better! lol :-)
COULD You show the back of Your piece…it is just AWESOME…VERY BEAUTIFUL WORK
Thank you! I will have to get it out and show the back in a new video. There's no backing on it, other than the batting/wadding that I embroidered it down onto. For now. I will eventually put a backing on it when I go to finish it. Thank you for watching. xo
Would love some slow stitch kits to buy in your Etsy shop since I don’t have much of a stash of fabric..
I have two kits left in my shop right now. But I'm adding more later today. I try to keep about 6-8 at all times but sometimes I get behind. The supplies in each kit depend on what I've got on hand. Thank you for watching! Here's the link to my shop. www.etsy.com/shop/SparrowhawkerDesigns
Love it
Thank you! xo
Hi, I'm a beginner, self taught and always looking for inspiration and I've enjoyed your ideas and chat... Marion
Thank you so very much, Marion. I hope you find plenty to watch on my channel. xo
A yo-yo is a toy here in England and a Suffolk Puff is ... well ... a Suffolk Puff lol, I was taught how to make them as a child (when school's still taught needlework !) ... must admit though calling needlework/hand sewing Slow Stitching is taking some getting used to (must be my age ! 😂) but whatever you want to call it these days it's still a wonderful way to pass the hours away ! ❤
Yes, I agree. Yo-yos are toys, here, too. I have no idea why that name ever stuck to these little circles. I mean, we don't have a Suffolk here, but still, they could have been called something else besides yo-yos! lol. Thank you!
I am subscribed to your channel so I will be checking out your videos for more info.
Thank you! And thanks for watching. xo
Yeah, we definitely have yo-yos! 😂
Right!? lol.
Love it I would be interested a kit
Thank you, for watching, Carolyn. I appreciate the support. Take care! xoxo
Oh my gosh! i don't know how I missed this video : ( damm YouTUBE : (( Lets do a slow stitch swap hun, rosanne xoxox
Okay, sounds great! I'm really digging that fairy book you're doing. It's the bomb.
New subscriber here...what is the name of your Etsy shop?
Welcome! Thanks for spending some time at my channel. My etsy store is: www.etsy.com/shop/SparrowhawkerDesigns I just sold the last slow-stitch kit, but I should have some more up by this evening or tomorrow at the lates. Thank you so much!
Seems like I’m frequently “ late to the party”. 😁 Love slow stitching too (besides journal making), will check out the shop later. Tyfs
