As someone who played old destiny with no friends, I much prefer old destiny. It just hit so insanely different.

D1 may have had a lot of frustrating issues, but it had soul, man. I actually got EXCITED for loot, events and DLC back then.
Challenge and rewards to match
D1 had a ton of foundational work done by the Bungie OGs that did Halo. They were mostly removed by the time D1 launched.
The game now doesn't have a soul because the developers that gave destiny 1 a soul all left or have been fired.
when getting an exotic or even legendary felt rewarding. Now its like popping candy theres no hit to it like back then. Those things that Xur use to sell for a CHANCE at an exotic drop the more you used were even exciting. I remember getting Twilight after farming like 2 days on the same boss using 1 at a time. it felt rewarding as hell. Now I just run a single lost sector and get the drop 100% for the new stuff theres no fun. I'd rather grind a boss, do strikes or ANYTHING else than a lost sector. and its low key unrewarding being able to get it right then and there.
rose coloured glasses man, destiny 2 way better, but DI felt better because you were younger, had more friends, had less responsibilities, didnt have to pay bills, etc.
I’ll forever remember when back in shadowkeep they were like “renewed focus on pvp” and it took them 3 or so years to add ONE crucible map
And one of the worst maps in the game. It felt like they had some WQ assets and were like “oh yeah, we were supposed to give pvp players something, just search through the garbage can of scrapped assets and put together something”
The loot part is so true man.

I wish I could go back, man. The loot chase, the G-horn excitement,and that feel of wanting to know what's out their in "the wild". But it obviously wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Nothin'll ever beat the feelin of gettin an exotic from the gorgon chest, so many good memories from D1. It wasn't a perfect game but even in its flaws and heartbreaks it's a game I'll fondly remember forever.

Bungie needs to find a middle ground for loot. being flooded with Exotics is as bad as having to run the same activites 50 times and only getting 3 chances per week...

Definitely the thing I remember more from D1 was the near-complete lack of familiarity I had with it in the beginning. I picked vanilla D1 on day 1. I hadn’t followed the game’s development at all. All I knew is that it was going to be some kinda new FPS and that Bungie was developing it. With how much I enjoyed Halo, that was enough for me to get it. I was just THAT confident in Bungie as a studio… lol. Anyway I remember just running around in-game. A lot of people talk about a “sense of mystery Destiny used to have” and I feel like for me that went deeper cause I really was in the dark about most things. I didn’t know what exotics were or what to do with strange coins (definitely not buying that one rocket launcher!) etc etc. I remember running into a titan with Helm of Innmost Light and thinking how cool it looked…. And I was subsequently bummed to find out it was a titan-exclusive exotic haha (I had stuck with warlock for the longest time, still my “main” to this day).
As much as I liked Destiny back then compared to now, it had very similar problems. If you didn't play constantly you'd be out of the loop within 3 months.

D2 never pulled me like D1 did. If Bungie descended to remaster/port the game to PC I'd probably never touch D2 again and I'm not even joking.

That loot analogy at the start of this is just correct, especially these days. Prismatic makes the need for weapons basically irrelevant, I could run around with whites and so long as I had a light and a dark I could clear 99% of content in the game. Makes the desire for any loot in the future kinda moot, why care about the new gun that just dropped when it's going STRAIGHT in my 650/700 vault and never getting used unless it has Demo + Pugilst on it or some combo with 'this gun is just another ability after it kills something'.
At least D1 got to go out on a high note too, even with it's issues (will forever stare at the sword PvP grind), D2's got to hit it's finish line but now is getting dragged through the mud because the studio heads had no idea how to manage a company. Just...so unfortunate.
Do appreciate the few moments of pointing out the good things, there wasn't much, but at least rahool likes us now!

In D1 it isn't listed in the engram itself, but there is a 1 in a million chance of getting an exotic, from a rare. Ive had it happen twice, i recorded both times
Me getting my first 1k Voices was probably peak destiny 2. I got it years after the raid got released with some randos on lfg. Rivens heart was definitely my favorite encounter.
i too use the " Ive got everything from this raid crafted already i got no reason to play it at all." line as well.
The art style and armor looked better in D1, the weapons felt more original. I love that we actually have the game on PC, the story is way better and having mods etc is awesome. But there is still some key parts missing

Nothing in D2 evokes as much excitement as getting an exotic in D1. I've got so many exotic engrams, I have to delete them and the fact you can't vault them for different characters is dumb.

I thought i liked D1 out of pure nostalgia. Until i saw the 6000+ hours i had on that game vs the 4000+ i have on D2. D1 really hit different
Bro, you can complete every piece of content in D1 including DLCs in less than 30 hours. The only thing that kept you in that game was a slot machine.

When it comes to exotics I don’t the issue is necessarily that they are easier to earn but they are more a tool for you utilize and less of it being a super rare armor or weapon.

I just pretend I’m playing Destiny 1 when playing Destiny 2. Don’t use crafting. Don’t use the stupid ass gear that does not look like it belongs in the game at all. Focus on the gun play instead of the over powered ability spamming. It feels good honestly, and I think people should give it a try.

We should have enough vault space to have rolls of every weapon in the game, and rolls on all exotic armor pieces for all three classes.
We don't have NEAR that much space, which is why most of us run out.

D1 had a ton of problems for sure, but it felt raw and untamed. The PvP was crazy different, what little we had of the story back then was very entertaining for my 16yo brain, and there was fresh variety to every update from what I can remember. But the thing that sticks out to me the most is the atmosphere, literally and figuratively. I used to be able to walk around in the cosmodrome for ages just playin around because the art and atmosphere were absolutely amazing! It really sold this post-apocalyptic space shooter. For any of you who still have D1, go boot it up and compare skyboxes, lighting, and overall atmosphere between both games. I know which one I’D rather have.
Back then Destiny felt so new and adventerous. We didn't know the factions well, we just met a alien cult in an ancient tomb. Ironically, after answering so many questions about the story, the mystery disappeared. Now it all feels like going through the motions you knew for years now. This is why every story needs to have an end.

I finally decided that I’m done with destiny 2 last week.. finished the seasonal story, the season pass, and deleted it. I’ll come back if by some grace of Gabe Newell they add the red war and all the cut dlcs back, so very much impossible
