Hermit is easily my favorite modded character, and probably the only modded character that I would support being added into the vanilla game, he's got a very fun gimmick in dead on, and I feel his deck is very close to as balanced as the base characters, and I am happy to see frost enjoys him
I feel like it's also the highest quality modded character out there. Since it was a mod created by a proper game developer who just loved StS so they made a mod.
I'd actually say he feels weaker than the other characters, mostly due to some iffy card padding in the rare and uncommon slots. Basically anything that tries to make strike/defend synergy a thing feels like a complete waste of time, especially since Hermit only has access to basic strikes. Nothing like Wild Strike or Pommel Strike for even the slightest extra synergy with his other strategies. But mechanics wise he's very fleshed out, just wish they'd replace that with something else like more curse synergy cards.
@@Avengedtenfold while I agree at very strange build through strikes and defenses, he is not weak. He resembles unique way of playing. Curses, debuffs, dead-on cards, absolutely busted Eternal form… for me, weakest one is Silent.

I've been having a good time climbing ascension with The Hermit, I think his strength is that his common cards have pretty high values which gives him breathing room to find his scaling in act 1 and 2. Plated Armor and the common trike card that does 18 damage and gives two frail have been my bread and butter. Curse synergies are a little meh in my opinion, the heart killer curse decks kinda rely on Fatal End to have a continuous source of them. You also need exhaust synergy to prevent dead hands AND your payoff cards, Grudge/Shadow Cloak/Final Canter/From Beyond. I personally am also not great at The Silent but before The Watcher came out, she was considered the best for ASC 20 win streaking. So I leave that judgement up to the community at large. And I certainly don't think he's stronger than Watcher or Ironclad.
I've checked the Downfall Mod and The Hermit is indeed awesome. Dead On explores a new angle of strategy with hand postitioning and the curse/debuff stuff plays good as well.
Hermit is such a good character. Dead-on is a really interesting mechanic. And High Noon builds are so much fun (even more so before the Maintenance incident). And all of the hand manipulation makes Snecko Eye builds so stupidly strong.

I think what I love most is the simplicity and intuitiveness of the design. It's very easy to add tons of keywords and cool unique effects when creating a character. It's actually a lot harder to make an interesting and fun set of cards that use a limited rule set. The mod designers and artists did a damn good job 😊
hi guys, I'm new to Slay the Spire and I'm loving the game, but as I have no experience with card games, I find myself getting creamed a lot in the first act. Is there a mod that just adds a lot of new/better cards? Just to make it a tad easier for a noob ?
