Great video! Nice work on the small details and explanations. I always felt like John's CE-1 is modded...he doesn't get that nasty overdrive sound when the input is pushed hard and I think it's a wet signal to both amps. After hearing him live twice in a month, I definitely feel that's the case. I would love to hear others input on this too!
Thanks for your comment! I appreciate your valuable opinion. You're right, the PA monitor is likely outputting a mixed signal, and it sounds very clear chorus. I saw John's front row live in Germany before, I felt that the guitar amp was outputting separate signals from LR, but the tone was very clear chorus . This is an interesting mystery.
It isn’t that John’s unit is modded, but more that a LOT of original units out there have leaky capacitors from being decades old, which ends up with them sounding awful and distorted like this. I have used original units which have NOT done this. Regarding the two wet signals, it’s absolutely possible John is using all 3 Marshalls.. presumably the middle amp being dry and then chorus coming from both sides. It’s also possible he’s just in stereo with 2 amps, but as Kentaro said the amps are not fully panned left & right, so there is a mix of chorus in both sides.
Kentaro Kiuchi, did you know that Boss tu-3 has a buffer that give a bright in the guitar sound? I made a test and really have a difference with the tu-3 in the chain. Did you think John add the pedal to help in his tone? That make a difference in the final sound? I saw you used a tu-2, tu-2 has a buffer too?
yes. TU-2 also has a buffer. I think it's probably the same buffer as the TU-3. Most BOSS pedals (SD-1, DS-2 & etc) contain buffers and tend to brighten the tone. I also own the highly functional TU-3WAZA, but I found the TU-3W's buffer, although very good, to be too strong.
@@KentaroKiuchi but you think this buffer helps to get john's tone? You tried with or without the tu-2 to see if have any potencial change in the sound?
@@Mateus.Sanches yes. In John's RIG, we need BOSS's buffer. There are two reasons. First, when the buffer passes through, the electrical signal becomes low impedance and the CE-1 works properly. The second is a glittering tone. Most BOSS compact pedals are equipped with a buffer, so we recommend connecting BOSS to the first pedal. My favorite buffer tone is the DS-2 made in Japan from 1987-89.
Hi This is my guess. John's pre-tour sub-board was connected to TU3>NS2 send>Dyna Comp>'78 Dist>DS2>SD1>Variac Fuzz>micro amp>WH10V3>return NS2>Reverb>Reverb>CE-1. Looking at the current tour live, I felt that Dyna Comp is connected to the back side of the distortion.
You can check the connection order of the rehearsal boards before the tour in this photo.www.guitarworld.com/features/john-frusciante-red-hot-chili-peppers-unlimited-love
@ There are no rules regarding the order of the effects, if it sounds good and you like it, it stays that way. John used the Holy Grail before the mods in SA so it wouldn't seem strange to me if he continued with that thought. I think he uses it at the end because of the CE 1 preamp issue.
Рік тому+1
@@marcito_uwuI can remember in Live Earth 2007, I could only hear the Holy Grail affecting the left channel (where the Silver Jubilee is panned). I only put IIRC, which means "if I remember correctly," for this reason. I personally prefer the left-only reverb because it gives a more stereo sound to John.
I have a similar pedalboard but I use a UAD Golden Reverb. If it's after the CE-1, my tone lost highs and there was a volume boost when I turned it on. Now, with it before the CE-1 but after my modulation stuff, it works perfectly with no boost or change in my tone. Most likely, if a pedal is behaving weird, not sounding right, boosting signal, it's not in the right spot :)
Thanks for your comment! Jubilee is a great amp. A replacement amp for Major may not exist in this world. The meaning is not only the timbre, but also the behavior of the amplifier.
thank you! I also like small pedalboards. It's a very good thing to play a guitar with a minimal system.I like the tone of Vintage Fuzz rite. The Variac Fuzz is a very unique pedal that allows you to enjoy fuzz sounds with various settings.
You and Dave Simpson are godsends when it comes to Frusciante’s tone! thank you so much!
Thank you! Your voice gives me energy for tomorrow!
Great video and very well put together, I like the subtitles too with more clear info than Dave Simpson. You 2 are so much appreciated

@Kentaro Kiuchi yes a mystery indeed hahaha...I think we all can agree John's chorus tone is huge, beautiful, and very wet sounding!

Wow, very nice, i love your videos!!!! One thing i cant understand, did you used the NS-2 or not? Greetings from Brazil!!!
Hi Thank you! I am very happy!
I was not using the NS-2 with this pedalboard.

Is it 100% confirmed that the Dyna-Comp is now after the drive pedals? I thought it would be in the very beginning of the chain.
Yeah I was wondering the same. would love to know the effects loop for the Ns2 version as well.
Hi
This is my guess.
At this live, I stepped on the Dyna comp with "Soul To Squeeze" and "Give It Away". ua-cam.com/video/uTxfixhiXY8/v-deo.html

1:36 Why are the reverbs placed before the CE-1 (as opposed to after its stereo output)?
Hi The CE-1 has a stereo output. John uses the CE-1 as the final connection as a way to split the signal to two amps.
I know@@KentaroKiuchibut you didn't answer my question.
IIRC, aren’t the reverbs placed after the CE-1 instead of before it?

By the way I have the Jubilee and not the Major. Do you have a budget friendly suggestion instead of Major? Or any simulated amps of Helix?
Thanks for your comment! Jubilee is a great amp. A replacement amp for Major may not exist in this world. The meaning is not only the timbre, but also the behavior of the amplifier.
Hi love your videos and i'm building a scaled down John Frusciante pedalboard, just wondering which is better the Fuzzrite or MXR variac fuzz?
thank you! I also like small pedalboards. It's a very good thing to play a guitar with a minimal system.I like the tone of Vintage Fuzz rite.
The Variac Fuzz is a very unique pedal that allows you to enjoy fuzz sounds with various settings.
Finally :D
😊🙏
is the reverb on both amps?
yes. Both amps have a reverb effect.
@@KentaroKiuchi ok thanks a lot. I thought only Jubilee had reverb.
will you be getting a 2203 amp?
I have a 50W type 2204. I've tried the JMP2203 before and found it to be a better amp than the JCM800 2203. I want the JMP2203 too!
