Far from being spooky, the choice of music during the battle made the video feel... relaxing. Considering how slow and methodical both the decks were (Especially for this format), the calming Dragonspiral Tower theme complemented them well. I know you said Item lock decks don't make for the most interactive battles, but I think they could carve out a niche as some of your most soothing videos with the right music track. In fact, if you're still fine with the 2016 M Audino EX vs Vileplume Box battle, I would enjoy if you paired it with the most soothing music from X and Y. While we're talking about themes, I have an idea for how you could make your December battles feel as special as your October ones. Each of them could pit a deck featuring an Ice type Pokémon (Or other wintery Pokémon like Empoleon) against a deck featuring a Grass or Fire type Pokémon, which would symbolize the age-old struggle between the cold, dark, bleak winter and the warm, bright, festive household from which our modern Christmas decorations crazy emerged. Seeding starter Pokémon and other common gift Pokémon like Eevee into the mix would also reinforce the festive theme, and I'm sure we could find more or less festive-feeling music for each battle. (I could see 2008 Glaceon Lv.X versus Leafeon Lv.X/Magmortar (Or better yet, Glaceon Lv.X/Leafeon Lv.X versus Magmortar/Bronzong, two Jay Hornung lists you could create with cards from your other decks), 2013 Black Kyurem/Blastoise versus Flareon, 2007 Flariados versus Empoleon (Okay, that might be a bad idea matchup wise, a Chien-Pao ex matchup (Perhaps against Hydrapple ex? ;) ), and perhaps even a SniChu versus Venusaur matchup for Base-Neo being good candidates. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing many decks featuring ice types in your collection, so if you are willing to make the theme less rigid, you could also feature 2008 Blissey (Since Blissey is a gift-giver) or something like that. Maybe you could even feature Darkrai EX/Giratina EX versus M Sceptile EX, as mega Sceptile resembles a Christmas tree and... well, how else do you think Santa avoids witnesses? Nice Unown playmat, by the way. Official or unofficial? What's it called?
@@holon_phantom That's what I was wondering. Maybe just make December starter Pokémon month? Falling back on the "gift Pokémon" theme, as well as recognizing all the core memories people have of playing through the Pokémon games they got for Christmas (or some time between Christmas and the Black Friday release)? You even have multiple decks featuring starter Pokémon for some formats... you have options like Feraligatr versus Venusaur in Base-Neo, Blaziken versus Swampert in 2004, LBS versus Dark Dragonite/Charizard Gold Star in 2006 ... you could even do Meganium/Exeggutor versus Arcanine/Venusaur in Neo-Skyridge if you have the cards.
Can you make a Neo Genesis Ledian and Bellossom deck against any other deck? I just want to give Ledian and Bellossom some of the spotlight for the retro format.
Do you want to see those versions of the cards specifically, or just the species? Hidden Legends Bellossom has been featured as a powerful tech in Blaziken in Holon Phantom's 2004 videos, and there was an Exeggutor/Quagsire/Ledian delta species deck from 2007 that he could perhaps be persuaded to try, since he loves 2007 (It depends on if he owns that Ledian and Quagsire line or would be willing to buy them, but they would probably be cheaper to buy than four Neo Genesis Bellossom).
@@holon_phantom Maybe Jungle scyther with Meganium having the pokemon power Wild Growth, and Neo Genesis Ledian for energy acceleration. Of course add clefa.
11:24 I'm curious why you didn't attack the Chandelure instead of Smeargle. Your wife had been pitching Chandelure line pieces like crazy, so you might have been able to end her chances of damaging your bench entirely. That probably would have been enough to win the game. Also, your wife could have used Playground for Mew at 6:16, but I could see an argument for not giving your opponent the chance to search for another Pokémon or for not wanting to punish yourself with baby Pokémon rng in the face of a Raikou EX. As usual, don't think I'm belittling either of you, as you're both quite versatile Pokémon players given the level at which you can play virtually every every of the game.
Chandelure still had 120 HP left so it would've taken at least 3 turns to knock it out; 1 turn for volt bolt, 1 turn to retreat and recharge, and 1 turn to attack again. In that time, another mew could've started taking more prizes. And pichu didn't playground for mew because I would have knocked it out with raikou. It was better to hold onto mew until it was ready to attack rather than risk it on the bench.
@@holon_phantom See what I mean about versatility and level of play? I totally thought Raikou EX's attack did 120 damage. And yes, now that you mention it, I see just how bad an idea benching Mew would have been. What did you think of my other comment?
The mew deck is supposed to be slow because it has a lot of cards to use in a combo. The eelektrik deck is usually faster but the vileplume prevented both players from using item cards so it got slowed down a lot
Love the old formats!❤ The combos are smarter compared to 2024.
Oh yes! my good dosis of retro pokemon tcg. Thanks Holon for your great work!!
Glad you liked it!

Wait, I just figured out it's a Silph Company typewriter design! Fascinating!
... oh wait, it's an Ouija board? Less crazy about that.
I've been thinking of featuring ice types, but I don't have too many so I just do regular battles with a special battle on Christmas day
It's unofficial, and yes, it's a ouija board

Wow a really close game there. Thank you for sharing

I've never used those cards in a deck before, they don't really combo very well with each other. I'm not sure it would make for a very exciting game
@@Charmaster04 Oh that would be great to see! Anything to give Ledian and Bellossom the spotlight they need it

Sorry hello
Hello!
Those decks are really slow
