To answer Aggro’s question about why Firefly is always compared to Outlaw Star, and not Bebop… It’s because Firefly came out less than a year after Outlaw Star, and the first Firefly ad focused heavily on a mysterious girl in a box. Also, Bebop didn’t air on Adult Swim until about a year later, after Firefly was already canceled. Also, for anime Blu-Ray recommendations, Escaflowne is gorgeous, and pretty much any 80s to 90s Sunrise shows, because they apparently outsource their HD remasters to LA. Also, Utena (movie and show) Gunbuster, and Evangelion all look fantastic.
On Dan's suggestion: Escaflowne [both the show and the movie] is from the same era of amazing looking anime from Sunrise and I'd bet it looks incredible on a blu-ray. Not to mention stuff like 08th MS Team and Stardust Memory or even the Dirty Pair movie.
how appropriate is it I was on twitter this morning and the first thing I see is a post of Ed in the live action Bebop show and I immediately thought of To Boldly Flee.
I have to mention because you guys brought up the correlation that I got the Cowboy Bebop full series bluray for my parents last Christmas because they really like Firefly. It's their first anime. I showed them the heist scene from the beginning of the movie and that got them in. They really enjoyed it.
I recently rewatches the series on Hulu just this year but this review definitely made me get the BD release and man on the OLED y'all weren't kidding on how amazing it looks
In regards to Aggro's point about Firefly being compared to Outlaw Star, it's mainly because there's more similarities between Outlaw Star and Firefly than there are between Bebop and Firefly. Like, right down to the whole "naked girl in a box" thing. Plus, Outlaw Star was not only created way earlier than Firefly (the manga began in 1996, and the anime first premiered in Japan in 1998) but it also aired on US television over a year before Firefly did (Outlaw Star first aired on Toonami on January 15, 2001 and Firefly first aired on Fox on September 20, 2002) Though to be fair, Whedon hadn't seen Outlaw Star during Firefly's production (supposedly anyway) and a lot of the similarities people mention (aside from the girl in the box) are shared with a ton of other shows around that time (space westerns were just a big thing in the mid-late 90s) so I'm willing to bet that its all just a weird coincidence.
They are gonna 1000% fuck up Gren’s character too. Cowboy Bebop Gren: soldier who was sent to prison, forced to inject experimental drugs in his body, despises what his body became because of it and wants to kill Viscious due to his testimony putting Gren into the situation. Netflix Gren: pro trans icon who “”””””confidently”””””” accepts what his body became and is very much so “Yaaas Queen Slay!”
"Just accept the body you have even if it's different from your gender-identity, don't be upset or try to do anything to change it." - Netflix's idea of a trans-positive message
In hindsight, that idea of Ed being a virtual entity restricted to screens (or possibly any reflective/projectable surface) would have been neat....at least....better than tour correct prediction of a terrible season 2 teaser.....eugh
10:00 I don't know what the issue with Jet's story is here. You can have things happen to you over a period of time that come together to lead you down a different path. His wife left him because he was spending too much time obsessing over his job while also being too stubborn in their relationship. Later on he lost his arm because of the corruption that was in the force. They tried to kill him because of that same obsession he had for doing his job well that his wife left him for. Losing his arm in the assassination attempt on his life lead to his retirement. He only realized much later in the series that his partner was involved. You don't need to multiple lives at the same time to have a backstory like that. He pretty clearly lived one life that you only got bits and pieces of over time. It's pretty coherent.
The alarm going off into Feel immediately shooting the Netflix series has to be one of the best bits of comedic timing I've seen in a while
"Why cant it look good like this again?" I bet someone will figure out retro cell animation somehow
Gotta apply SSAO and jitter to the edges of photoshop layers
Megalobox isn't far off imo, it's good
I don't know if you guys talked about Big O ever, but I'm looking forward to that eventuality. Such a good dub, such a unique robot design.
It's fucked up that Feel's Edward prediction would have been better than the actual Netflix Edward we got

Oh, and I stand with Aggro, if you’re only gonna watch one season of Slayers it should be Slayers Next.
Feel basically predicted the "Jet Black Black-Male" scene lmfao holy shit
They also predicted one of the scenes looking like that scuffed leia scene from tlj, just got the wrong character

Also, GaoGaiGar too! But unfortunately there's only a Japanese release for that.
@@guchi4460 The Blu-Ray for G Gundam is also really great
I've seen BD rips of the TV series, and yeah, shit looks GOD-TIER.

That is somehow worse than To Boldly Flee

As far as good looking blu-rays, the Gunsmith Cats release looks outstanding! Would love to see it on this show
Prediction: "Someone is going to say, 'You're going to carry that weight' "
Actual: Faye "I'm *not* gonna carry that weight."
people compare firefly to outlaw star because in both they find a girl in a crate among other things.

Can't wait for the inevitable Slayers episode

All this talk of Outlaw Star and Lost Universe... Just watch Ideon and be horribly depressed for weeks.
