- The top 15 DreamWorks Animation movies of all time shows the timeline of highest grossing DreamWorks Animation movies from the year 1998 to 2021. In this video, the list ranks DreamWorks Animation movies by best in grossing using the comparison Bar Chart Race graph. It is a visual representation of data which highlights the top 15 DreamWorks Animation movies. Note that the number represents the worldwide Box-office gross in dollars and the list is not adjusted for inflation.
DreamWorks Animation LLC (also simply known as DreamWorks) is an American animation studio that produces animated films and television programs and is a subsidiary of Universal Pictures, a division of NBCUniversal, which is itself a division of Comcast. The studio has released 41 feature films as of July 2021, including several of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, with Shrek 2 (2004) having been the highest at the time of its release. The studio's first film, Antz, was released on October 2, 1998 and its latest film was The Boss Baby: Family Business, which was released on July 2, 2021; their upcoming slate of films include The Bad Guys on April 22, 2022, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish on September 23, 2022.
Formed as a division of DreamWorks Pictures in 1994 with alumni from Amblin Entertainment's former animation branch Amblimation, it was spun off into a separate company in 2004. NBCUniversal acquired DreamWorks Animation at a cost of $3.8 billion in 2016. The studio originally made some traditionally animated films, as well as two stop-motion co-productions with Aardman Animations, but now exclusively relies on computer animation. Its productions, including The Prince of Egypt, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and the Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon franchises, have received several accolades, including three Academy Awards, 41 Emmy Awards, numerous Annie Awards, and multiple Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations.
Films produced by DreamWorks Animation were originally distributed by DreamWorks Pictures until 2005, which was then taken over by Paramount Pictures in 2006 until 2012. 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios) became the third distributor in 2013 and held the position until 2017. Universal Pictures became the fourth and final distributor and holds the position since 2019, as well as owning most of the rights to its back catalogue.

Imagine being an awe-inspiring animated masterpiece like the Prince of Egypt and being outperformed by the Boss Baby and Home.
So many great 2D animated movies like Treasure Planet and El Dorado sadly underperformed in this time period
Sadly, those childish comedies seems to have a much more mainstream appeal, unfortunately.
In my opinion, *Home was alright*
Then what do i say? Spirit SotC is my no. 1 movie on my shelf and is outperformed by SHARK TALE!
I really wish that companies would start making 2D movies again.. And im not even gonna talk about Boss Baby, its a sad excuse of a movie
Spirit, Over the Hedge, Megamind, Puss in Boots, Home, Kung Fu Panda 3, and How to Train Your Dragon 3 deserved so much more in my opinion, those were great films and should've been at least a bit higher on the list!
Broo can't belive HTTYD 3 was so low on the list, best movie of the year when it got released in my opinion

I never realized how badly the box office did my Road to El Dorado so dirty..
Which.. I feel is a big irony, because Road to El Dorado is probably my second or third most loved and watched dreamworks film behind Shrek 1&2. It had original music by Elton John for God's sake.
Road to el dorado was so fun to watch it definitely deserved more tickets
Also remember me when this comment gets famous
I came to day this lol
I worked on many of these movies including the dragon films... HTTYD (the original one) did a really neat feat... in movies, you call the first weekend box office take VS the final number its 'multiplier'. 9 out of ten times, you multiply what a movie makes in it's opening weekend times 4 to get a good idea what a film will do. the first weekend on How to Train Your Dragon was far below expectation, and we were all very disappointed. but the next few weekends were a suprise, the film dropped down a bit in numbers in the second weekend, then for the next few weeks made roughly the same money... in the end the overall number was (still) lower than expected or hoped for but the final multipler was SIX times opening weekend, indicating very good word of mouth, (people telling friends 'you GOTTA see this flick'!) thus part 2 was put into production, we had a hit on our hands.
What did you do specifically? I'm curious now.
Yeah my buddy Eric also worked on how to train your dragon
@@tren1ty_gaming i animated on the first several back when we drew on paper. i like drawing, so when everything went to CG i got into storyboarding. i was the head of story on dragon 2, and i left dreamworks after dragon 3. i went to disney and worked on frozen 2 and raya then left disney and am now at a new company who haven't released their first film yet, it's due out soon on apple plus

I love how everyone in the comments said HTTYD and KFP deserved better. Absolutely, these two series are the best trilogies of Dreamworks. Especially the first httyd movie has a special part in my heart.
But look at where HTTYD ranked, all it lost to was Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar. While Madagascar personally wasn't my cup of tea, it's easy to see why those 3 outperformed HTTYD

2. Makes me realize how many classics deserved more attention.
How can The Road to El Dorado be in last place? That movie is amazing and extremely underrated
This list is based on how well these movies performed in the box office. Not by how good or bad the actual movies are.
The Road to El Dorado and Spirit are my favourite movies
Dreamworks' golden rule is, "If it exceeds the box office of Shrek 1, it becomes a franchise"
Edit: Tolls 2 and spirit untamed, are the exception to the rule, but here between us, we better pretend that they don't exist
Edit 2: i just saw puss in boots 2, and it's amazing, watch it right now, it deserves it.
