I really really enjoyed this series’ dub. Occasionally, there were some kinks that made things sound awkard but they did a smooth job of the localization . Also, Kai Tang really grows in his role of Dazai very well. He does the comic relief and fearsome mafia agent and transitions between them naturally without making him come off as edgy (which is seriously impressive). Kuikida and Chuuya’s english VA’s also really nailed their characters as well. Not that everything was perfect but its clear the dub did their research and it shows. well done

Really good series. Great animation. Good and believable characters. Nice story. Also Sakunosuke's fight (in season 2) was definitely one of the best anime fights ever.

I like this dub more than I usually like dubs. That said, there's just some verbal ticks and vocal sounds that don't translate/transfer to the English dubs so I usually prefer the subs because it has the originally intended feel behind the characters' voices. There's a difference between the energies of the original VAs and the English dub VAs. Dazai's voice actor here is really good, but doesn't capture a certain mysterious softness that Dazai's voice has when he's calm, and there's a certain dorky-ness that is missing in his voice in more lighthearted scenes. Still a good dub, just not what I'm used to. I'd always recommend people try to watch the subbed version first so that you can see the original work and the feel of it before watching the dubbed versions. But if you have trouble with subs or just don't like to have to read while you're watching, that's understandable.

Yes, very true. Of course sub will be "better" but it's because the Japanese vas have the upper hand. What do you think the characters have been lip synced to? Japanese. Dubs try their best to keep what they are saying within the lip syncing, but sometimes it's very difficult to put enough emotion. They DO try their best most of the time, and to be downgrading them is a waste of time.

And a special two thumbs up for the person who decided on Atsushi's hair style, because I had a cheeky friend named Jesse back in the 80's who sported that same cut but his was colored burgundy with raven (blue black) on the ends. And goodness golly gosh, I haven't thought about him in ages, so thanks for the trip down memory lane. Love Always Jesse where ever you are!

Yes, very true. Of course sub will be "better" but it's because the Japanese vas have the upper hand. What do you think the characters have been lip synced to? Japanese. Dubs try their best to keep what they are saying within the lip syncing, but sometimes it's very difficult to put enough emotion. They DO try their best most of the time, and to be downgrading them is a waste of time.
