I made this today, but i blended everything, plus added 1/2 a lemon. Its still really bitter, so i added some orange juice in my glass, that helped some. It sure takes a lot to get use to the taste , holy cow !! lol

I just tried this today! I am a cilantro freak! I love love love it! I eat it plain stems and all. It is definitely different once boiled. To me, it had hardly any flavor so I thought it would be easy to throw back 8oz. I drank about 4oz (1st thing in the morning) and began feeling nauseous. Then my lower abdomen began to ache a little. I stopped and with in about 15 minutes, I began to feel like I had more energy and the pain went away. I had to sip the last 4oz and it still makes me feel a little nauseous. But it always goes away rather quickly. I do feel better! I feel like I can breathe deeper and I am ready to get moving. I will keep up this cleanse and post again after one week.
I have an appointment with a 'kidney' consultant next week, as I have severe pain in my right kidney every morning, for months without fail. Cranberry juice (the good stuff) did nothing for me! So I can tell ya now... I'm gonna give this a try. It ain't gonna do any harm! Thanks Linda :-)

Also, getting rid of processed foods, sugar, and carbs as well as leafy greens for a little while may help. These foods can really cause the kidneys to struggle while breaking them down and drinking a good amount of water with a little apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are good to flush your kidneys, are really helpful. I had part of my kidney removed when I was younger and I had to learn to eat differently. Thank you, Linda, for this recipe. Kidney pain and bladder issues is definitely no fun for anyone.

Not sure if this is mentioned in any of the past comments and if it is I apologize for being a broken record. This is actually very healthy for you. Cooking it will break it down easier for your body. Darker greens can be harder to digest. Now for the part woman may not know about-doing this with parsley can trigger your monthly. If you take higher dosages of vitamin C along with parsley like this for 3 days you will get your monthly. This is great for if you're late from stress or medications. Having one cup of this drink once a day will not interfere with your cycle.(you have to be drinking about 4 cups per day). Parsley and cilantro are amazing for the body in any form. You mentioned putting it in a morning smoothie. I wouldn't cook cilantro for that same effect, I'd just make a smoothie. You could just blend cilantro & water. You could add apple or banana for sweetening.
Wow what a great cleansing drink. I would definitely mix it with something as I think it might be a little strong and overpowering, but then again the ice would water it down, great idea Linda. There are heaps of detox drinks around.
I gave it thumbs up. I boil water and dip it in for less than a min just to wash it. Then put the entire thing stems and all.. chopped up a bit into vitamix blender add filtered water then blend ... then squeeze it thru a nutmilk bag strainer.
I tried your recipe. It is very delicious - I like it warm, maybe cut with a little cold water or allowed to cool down a bit. I looked at a few recipes and the one I looked at last was the one I actually used - a 2 minute simmer followed by a 30 minute steep - same proportions, though.. Jim
parsley is better for cleaning even the whole body, and yes it has to be boiled for 10 minutes if u are using it for detoxing cleaning ect your body it is couse they are some chemichals that the only way you can activate them in some products is by boiling them even when some other good stuff dies. for example tomatos is one of those, brocoly ect.
How big is a bundle of cilantro? I used a 2.5 oz package of cilantro and two granny smith apples to make it sweet, Tasted great. Do you think i could add cucumber, zucchini, etc.?
my thoughts on seeing this were like, why would you boil it to steep (I know the receipe said to)... but you might want to try just blending the cilantro leaves into a smoothy without cooking it. I like (in my blender) fresh roma tomatoes, a drop of oil of oregano, a handful of cilantro leaves and a dash of cumin... kinda like a taco in a cup! or try just lemon and cilantro for a lemonade as you said. Good job tho!
i would strain it also because the extra fiber has to be processed through the liver, and unless you chew it, it's not going to work. I don't cook my greens usually - just put them directly in the vitamix and then strain.
And then you wrecked it with ice. You are not meant to eat ice because the temperature is too cold for the body. Your body temperature is around 36 degrees and cold drinks and foods disturbs the balance. All things injested must be warm and including tap water. I took this advice from my Chinese herbals for eight months. I heated my water, stayed away from ice and cold foods and fruit from the fridge (very hard to do when you love watermelon as much as I do) and the results were brilliant. Burdock tea is really good for Kidney function. Get organic burdock but don't peel the skin - just wash the soil and dirt. Thin slices using peeler. Dry out with sun light then lightly roasted by pan. That's it.
It's funny Linda but did you know using ice in drinks and drinking cold water is actually hard on your kidneys that's why the Chinese drink hot drinks and actually hot water is better for your metabolism FYI. I would do cilantro raw with lemon ginger and agave maybe cucumber.
Not true. The temperature of water has no effect on the kidneys. By the time even the coldest water reached the kidneys, it would already be at the body's temperature anyway. Being hydrated is really what keeps the metabolism working at an optimal level. There might be proven science on whether the cold temperature of water might cause the body to expend calories to heat it up , but there are still studies being done. Also the payoff might be insignificant.
My acupuncturist is from China and that is one thing they don't do is add ice to drinks hot or room temperature is easier on the body that's what she told me so I'm sticking with centuries of holistic practices.
Drinking cold water or ice water makes your body use up all its energy resource to warm the water down causing your organs to work harder. People always say you should not cook the raw ingredients because you loose the nutrients. This may be partially true as you lose some of the nutrients, but that is with any manipulation of fruits and veggies whether you blend it, juice it etc. The native boiled all kinds of herbs and they still were beneficial, healing and used for ages.

Nutra bullet isn't a good product. If you want fiber get it else where. or add pear to it, cherry tomatoes, broccoli. You see you will need a juicer and a blender. your brocoli, avocado, cherry tomatoes, banana, flex seed and chia blend etc. Then pour your juice into the blender until smooth but don't blend to long or it will heat up. You are getting your fiber that way. The rest of the fiber feed it to your dirt for your garden or house plant and it won't go to waste. if you are putting it into the nutra bullet then you might as well take a full body cleanse for you just dumped toxin into all your organs.

In order to cleanse your kidneys, should you drink this straight? The reason why I ask, because I love using cilantro in my recipes for spanish beans, which it is very delicious... But, I think it would do better to drink it straight and add some flavoring, like lemon, and sweeten it too...
This is best if you use curly parsley, not cilantro... they have different properties. The heating process is essential to bring out the benefits. Juicing is different. This is why chicken soup is also very good for you, if you add parsley at the end.
I don't mean to be rude to one of the people that posted on here about it being bad for you to drink iced things but it actually is very good for you if you are wanting to lose weight. It keeps the body burning calories by it just trying to get back to homeostasis (the bodies natural state). Warm drinks are relaxing but your inner smooth muscle has to be worked out a little just like your skeletal muscles to stay healthy
be sure to let your doctor know what your trying or better yet get his input, hope it clears up for you pain first thing in the day not a great way to start a morning.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend drinking it with ice though as the kidneys need to stay warm and too much cold fluids weaken them. Best to drink at room temp or hot. If a person drinks cold fluids too much, as the kidneys become weaker over time they will start to get several different symptoms such as back ache, weakness in the knees and can also start to show signs of premature aging. The recipe you are showing is great though

Love your energy... you should juice the the greens and use the stems b/c they act as an internal scrubs inside your digestive tract.

You raise a good point. I recommend using organic or washing your veggies with produce wash beforehand.

You mentioned putting it in a morning smoothie. I wouldn't cook cilantro for that same effect, I'd just make a smoothie. You could just blend cilantro & water. You could add apple or banana for sweetening.

Wow what a great cleansing drink. I would definitely mix it with something as I think it might be a little strong and overpowering, but then again the ice would water it down, great idea Linda. There are heaps of detox drinks around.
I gave it thumbs up. I boil water and dip it in for less than a min just to wash it. Then put the entire thing stems and all.. chopped up a bit into vitamix blender add filtered water then blend ... then squeeze it thru a nutmilk bag strainer.
I tried your recipe. It is very delicious - I like it warm, maybe cut with a little cold water or allowed to cool down a bit. I looked at a few recipes and the one I looked at last was the one I actually used - a 2 minute simmer followed by a 30 minute steep - same proportions, though..

parsley is better for cleaning even the whole body, and yes it has to be boiled for 10 minutes if u are using it for detoxing cleaning ect your body it is couse they are some chemichals that the only way you can activate them in some products is by boiling them even when some other good stuff dies.
for example tomatos is one of those, brocoly ect.

my thoughts on seeing this were like, why would you boil it to steep (I know the receipe said to)... but you might want to try just blending the cilantro leaves into a smoothy without cooking it. I like (in my blender) fresh roma tomatoes, a drop of oil of oregano, a handful of cilantro leaves and a dash of cumin... kinda like a taco in a cup!

i would strain it also because the extra fiber has to be processed through the liver, and unless you chew it, it's not going to work. I don't cook my greens usually - just put them directly in the vitamix and then strain.

Burdock tea is really good for Kidney function.
Get organic burdock but don't peel the skin - just wash the soil and dirt. Thin slices using peeler.
Dry out with sun light then lightly roasted by pan. That's it.
It's funny Linda but did you know using ice in drinks and drinking cold water is actually hard on your kidneys that's why the Chinese drink hot drinks and actually hot water is better for your metabolism FYI. I would do cilantro raw with lemon ginger and agave maybe cucumber.
Not true. The temperature of water has no effect on the kidneys. By the time even the coldest water reached the kidneys, it would already be at the body's temperature anyway. Being hydrated is really what keeps the metabolism working at an optimal level. There might be proven science on whether the cold temperature of water might cause the body to expend calories to heat it up , but there are still studies being done. Also the payoff might be insignificant.
My acupuncturist is from China and that is one thing they don't do is add ice to drinks hot or room temperature is easier on the body that's what she told me so I'm sticking with centuries of holistic practices.
How much can you drink per day
Drinking cold water or ice water makes your body use up all its energy resource to warm the water down causing your organs to work harder. Its better to drink room temperature water or warm water as well as adding organic sea salt to your water to put back into the body from what your body has release through out the day.

You need to do a full body cleaning because all you are doing is dumping the toxins to other organs. If you do a full body then all toxins has no where to go but out.

You can make a chutney using these leaves instead of drinking it.Just add tomatoes salt ,a piece of ginger and a little crushed garlic for those with high blood pressure,

Boiling will kill the nutrients in the leafs. Just take a bunch of coriander put it in your blender add a little room temperature water as you desire, and blend if well, drink it Immediately is the best or the juice will start Oxidize. You don't have to cook the nutrients OUT of the cilantro. Just put the cilantro in the cheapest Nutribullet they sell, add fresh fruit like blueberries and strawberries and a cup of water , blend then drink. You can also use fresh spinach instead of cilantro. I like to add half teaspoon of salba seeds also.
Spinach has too much phosphorus or potassium, those electrolytes are kinda hard for the kidneys to process

Juice made from cooked whole barley is also beneficial for kidneys. It needs to be cooked much longer though.

People always say you should not cook the raw ingredients because you loose the nutrients. This may be partially true as you lose some of the nutrients, but that is with any manipulation of fruits and veggies whether you blend it, juice it etc. The native boiled all kinds of herbs and they still were beneficial, healing and used for ages.

Nutra bullet isn't a good product. If you want fiber get it else where. or add pear to it, cherry tomatoes, broccoli. You see you will need a juicer and a blender. your brocoli, avocado, cherry tomatoes, banana, flex seed and chia blend etc. Then pour your juice into the blender until smooth but don't blend to long or it will heat up. You are getting your fiber that way. The rest of the fiber feed it to your dirt for your garden or house plant and it won't go to waste. if you are putting it into the nutra bullet then you might as well take a full body cleanse for you just dumped toxin into all your organs.

What about adding pineapple juice for a little sweetness or agave nectar! You can add the fiber from the strained cilantro to your homemade muffins for breakfast the next day.

In order to cleanse your kidneys, should you drink this straight? The reason why I ask, because I love using cilantro in my recipes for spanish beans, which it is very delicious... But, I think it would do better to drink it straight and add some flavoring, like lemon, and sweeten it too...

This is best if you use curly parsley, not cilantro... they have different properties. The heating process is essential to bring out the benefits. Juicing is different. This is why chicken soup is also very good for you, if you add parsley at the end.

I don't mean to be rude to one of the people that posted on here about it being bad for you to drink iced things but it actually is very good for you if you are wanting to lose weight. It keeps the body burning calories by it just trying to get back to homeostasis (the bodies natural state). Warm drinks are relaxing but your inner smooth muscle has to be worked out a little just like your skeletal muscles to stay healthy
Add strips of ginger when boiling and sweetened with glucose.
be sure to let your doctor know what your trying or better yet get his input, hope it clears up for you pain first thing in the day not a great way to start a morning.

In parsley, you may cut the stems are bitter. Not in Cilantro, the stems are good in Cilantro. It would of tasted stronger had you left in the stems.

Thanks Marko. My mother is really suffering from kidney stones. The stone is too big and at 92 she is too old for surgery. Any advice would be appreciated.
By the way, I wouldn't recommend drinking it with ice though as the kidneys need to stay warm and too much cold fluids weaken them. Best to drink at room temp or hot. If a person drinks cold fluids too much, as the kidneys become weaker over time they will start to get several different symptoms such as back ache, weakness in the knees and can also start to show signs of premature aging. The recipe you are showing is great though
drink warm 3x a day do that on weekends let say start on Friday, Saturday easy on Sunday.
