I love the frame you used to make the contact print. Can I ask where you go that and what it is called? It is so much more elegant than my clothespin and glass solution.
Merci Mathieu pour cet excellent tutoriel 👍🏻 Question : Dans la vidéo, vous utilisez un pinceau-mousse au lieu d'un pinceau plat classique ... pour quelles raisons ?
How do you turn the picture into a negative? How long do you rinse the image? Can you use any picture for this? Can you do this on fabric like a t-shirt or just paper? Thank you. Cool video.
Hey not sure about timing since I did this so long ago, but I’ve done cyanotypes on fabric and I’m 99% sure we just used the same stuff as this video shows on paper!
You can buy SPEEDBALL brand transparent sheets..like clear plastic paper. You can put them in a printer and print images on them. OR you can actually take a real film negative from like a 35mm camera.. scan it and then enlarge it and print it on to the transparent sheets. But you should be able yo print anything you want from the internet etc onto the transparent sheets and use those. It helps if you are using leaves or stuff like that to put a piece of glass over top of it if you are foung it outside in the sun..so it won't blow away. You can use paper, fabric like canvas of a t-shirt. Just experiment.
You’ll need to invert it before printing, and then you can print it out on normal printer paper and use a tissue to wipe cooking oil over the back of the print- let it dry and it’ll be transparent :)
How long does it take for the chemicals to dry on the paper? And also what is the thing you use to hang the picture at the end while it's drying?? So cool!!!
Can you provide a video on how to make the large film? I use a large canon printer, I have heard that only Epson is capable of printing the transparency needed to make the image
Hi, your video is most informative. How do you turn a photo into a negative? Hopefully, I will hear from you. I have done cyanotype before but now I am going further for a college Photography Project and want to add this type of processing to what I already know. Thank you in advance.
It will much cooler to see a painting done with cyanotype then exposed with a film and see the result as a double exposure image rather than a regular square frame
C'est merveilleux ! Ça me rappelle d'utiliser la lumière liquide. Je vais essayer ça avec mes 5e graders. On fait aussi des transferts Polaroid. Thank you!
I can't wait to try this! I have a question about the vinegar, though - how much do you add? And I assume if you add hydrogen peroxide, you wouldn't add vinegwr, correct? Thanks!
Vinegar us is for making the print more graduated , don't add too much, just 8 to 10 drops. After that you can add hydrogen peroxide if your not patient like me, but if you just wait 24h it will become blue anyway
Hi Mathieu! Your work, what you do here is an amazing work... You helped a lot with inspiring me (and I'm sure that you inspired all of your followers in vintage photography). What do you think? If I make some 35mm paper pieces and put some beetroot juice on them then put them in my old cmeha camera and I put it to bulb mode and shoot a couple of weeks exposure with those little beetroot papers, would it work? Or this method only works for printing exposures?😃
IT should work, but we are speaking about weeks, and weeks, because it's winter. Also the beetroot will maybe start to loos pigments faster than the image will appear. and in the end you will have a negative. i would advise to do the same experiment but with cyanotype instead, it will work in days and not weeks.
@@MathieuStern Thank you so much!😃 I will try it as soon as I will have the components for the cyanotype.. cause I don't have it home i would purchase it, and I will do it when I would have enough pocket money.😁 And thank you for answering, you know it means you are a really good content creator, because you care of your followers too.😃 A lots of others would probably never answer.
Hi! I've been trying to experiment with cyanotype for a few weeks now but every single time I go to put my pieces in the water after exposure, they completely wash out and no photos actually develop. I've experimented with exposure times, and even ordered more chemicals in case the first batch was tainted in some way, but no luck. Do you know what could be going wrong?
Hello Jennifer maybe you didn't mix the two solution 50/50 ? or simply you didn't exposed enough time in the sun. try 15 min first in bright sun, if it don't work, try 45 min in winter sun
So, I dunno if anyone else here has had this, but my chemicals have to be contaminated from the source I got them from (Amazon) I used distilled water and added it into each of the bottles, I use separate eye-droppers to measure out part A and part B, never using the "A" eye dropper in the "B" mixture and vice-versa, yet, when I add B to the little puddle of A in the mixing dish, it instantly turns deep blue. As a result, my exposures don't turn out right. Anyone else have similar?
Great video, someone does need to make some videos about alternative photographic processes, there is a wonderful book "Spirits of Salts: A Working Guide to Old Photographic Processes" by Martin Reed and Randall Webb it would be worth a read if you don't already have it, but be warned it could lead you down the rabbit hole.
The blue is just so beautiful, I've done a lot of cyanotypes lately inspired by your first video about it, thank you :)
Great to hear! maybe you can share a link to your cyanotypes
Me too 👍
So mesmerizing to see that image to appear on the paper. Beautiful. Thank you.
Great to see you back on some good health and creative work!
that turned out beautifully
So mesmerising as a professional photographer and being an Army , thanks to BTS , Namjoon.. I am so gonna try this now.

Beautiful video! I am wondering how to create the negative from a regular digital photo. I only have an ipad and inkjet printer.
You’ll need to invert it before printing, and then you can print it out on normal printer paper and use a tissue to wipe cooking oil over the back of the print- let it dry and it’ll be transparent :)
Pictorico Pro Ultra Premium OHP-Folie for example.

Beautiful contact print. You could also take the photo on negative film to begin with.
Fantastic
Is it necessary to turn the photo into black and white and then into a negative? or you can simply print out just a negative in all its colours?
Hello I’m so impressed of the results it’s so beautiful. I Have a question for you
why do you put vinegar with water to develop cyanotype ?
Vinegar helps getting more nuances in your shadows. but don't put too much of it in the water
Mathieu Stern thank you for the tips 🙏
Is it tue same purpose as using hydrogen peroxide? For the oxidation/ blues?
Wow cool!
Hello. Which printer should I use for making transparenties? Thank you! Marcel

Watercolor paper
So nice ✨

8 minutes😐

i have this queustion as well. scanning thru comments to see if it's answered.
it was answered: Vinegar helps getting more nuances in your shadows. but don't put too much of it in the water
Thanks Mathieu, very nice and interesting video, as always. Any tips, advice or brand regarding the UV lamp ?
I found mine on Amazon for 30$ , i think it was UV LED lamp for parties and events.

What printer do you use to print your negatives?
I would like to know too is it okay to use regular printer?
Hey Mathieu, maybe you will read this question: does the printer have to be a inkjet printer or can I use a laser printer, too? :-)
90% of the transparent paper is for inkjet printers, so if you can find a specific paper for laser, give it a try.
@@MathieuStern apparently it's kinda hard to find. But thank you very much for your response!

can the transparent picture used to create more than one cyanotype?
Is it possible to do this on canvas or wood panel? Do you have to use paper?

Invert it in Photoshop or a similar program.
