- After the war, ex boy flight soldier's Mr.Syouriki became the conductor of the military band of the Japan Self Defense Forces. Mr.Syouriki sponsored the concert of the military song for the memorial of the comrade-in-arms who had died with ww2.
He aged has gone up to the last stage.
The number is Army march drawn sword police squadron.

間違ったのは残念ですが、全員揃っての練習の時間も少なかったと思われますし、最後の演奏会で緊張もあったかと思います。同氏は、この演奏会の随所で多いに活躍し場を盛り上げていらっしゃいますので、私個人としては許容したいと思っております。

最初はフラフラしていて「大丈夫かな？」と心配でしたが、指揮台に立つや否や、気合と精神力で見事に指揮をなさっている。
この気合には尊敬を感じます。
歌を覚えてないおじさんではなく、男性合唱団にでも歌わせれば本当に素晴らしい動画だったのに。
本当に残念でなりません。
正調の抜刀隊ですね。私人でこの楽隊を指揮するのは大変なことと思います。残念ながら、4年程前にお亡くなりになられた模様であります。合掌・・・
やっぱり時間がたってもいい歌はいいですね。

He is old and he is very ill.
It's hard to stand for him, there is a band on his right arm (because of scars from the dropper needles and injections in the hospital).
But still he found the spirit and power to go to stage to perform in memory of his died comrades.
And I admire him.

And not to mention, this song was written by a Frenchman by the name of Charles Leroux. So effectively, it is the first western style marching song for Japan.

一年ぶりにコメントさせて頂きます。やはり何度見ても勝力さんの気合の入った、渾身の指揮、魂が揺さぶられる思いがします。聞くところによると、この演奏の時には既に病に冒されていたとか。お亡くなりになられたそうで、御冥福を祈るばかりです。出来ることなら、色々とお話を伺ってみたかったですねぇ。

Thank you for posting. Great music which demonstrates the fighting spirit of the Imperial Japanese Army. The singer does forget lyrics for a moment but this song contains many difficult Japanese words.

The song is very nice, and befitting of the brave Japanese troops who fought for what they thought was right. However, is the conductor really fit enough to take the stage? He seems unable to stand straight.

Possible because what Japan did was not as bad as Germany did, idealogical at least if not practically.
Japan was building a Empire, Germany was wiping out races.
Plus I don't think they are praising it, just remembering those who died.

But the Chinese nowadays arent the Han, the Tang, or the Song, or the Ming. P.S. When the war ended he was only 15. Then became conductor of the military band in Japanese Self Defense Forces. And Japanese imperial Army and Navy have never been convicted as war criminal organizations like SS. So nobody have the right to blame him the way you wrote above.
This song is still used during Military Marches of the JGSDF. Japan did a lot of fucked up stuff during the war, but this song was composed during the Meiji Period, and the lyrics reflect that period of time. I also remember this is the oldest marching song of the Japanese military, next to the Warship March (軍艦行進) which was the song for the Imperial Navy, and now the JMSDF.

They weren't so useless in the first world war (wherein they were constituents of the allied forces). It's all about how history and policy twist things, in case you are too daft to see it.
歌い手さんが自衛隊の危険業務従事者叙勲者ならば尚一層このような機会を大切にすべきですね。

that old gizzer also needs to stand properly. The way he stands gives me the idea that they are totally clueless about how important the proper standing represent the spirit of soldier (let's not talk about solder... this is not even good for marching music)

西南の役の際、農民・町人出身の官軍将兵は薩摩軍の抜刀斬り込み攻撃にとても敵いませんでした。この状況を打開するため、士族出身者が多かった警視庁から剣術に秀でた者を選抜し、「抜刀隊」を編成しました。この曲名はその故事に由来しています。
そんなわけで、今でもこの曲は陸上自衛隊と警察の両方で使われております。
