You may have missed yesterday's video: • Delicious (Jodie) Chic...
Happy Father's Day to you dads (and some of you moms who had to FILL IN when the dad was in absentia!!!) out there!
I used pony beads (you can buy a crapload of them in a container at Walmart, or in individual color packages) for this, but I suppose any plastic beads will do.
Melt the beads at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes in a metal cake pan. Drilled a hole in them and strung them on fishing line for ornaments or a suncatcher.
It does begin to stink after a bit. I put up a Vornado fan to circulate the air and it wasn't bad at all. They harden up and will tip right out of your pan without a problem.
I saw this idea on Pinterest here : doitandhow.com/...

These came out just lovely Beth and I can totally see maybe using small metal cookie colors as molds so kids could make them into shapes. Since I never use my metal cookie cutters for anything else lol.You always show us the bestest things.

I couldn't find iridescent with sparkles, so I got a bag of solid lighter bright colors. Because of my OCD I had to make sure that I had exactly the same amount of purple versus pink versus yellow, etc all positioned precisely even, and obsessed about making sure that there were no gaps. I put them in the oven at 375 and after 15 minutes. I came back into the house but I didn't smell anything.. until I open the oven door! they still hadn't melted very much. I put them in for 5 more minutes and then I took them out even though they still look about the same: very beautiful

I like them too. You were brave cooking them in the oven after all the warnings, but think of the different shapes and bumps and humps you could put on them! Very pretty!!

I saw these the other day & pinned it to make, but it's nice to see someone else do it first. Love them!! I want to make a large one with a few smaller ones & turn them into a windchime using copper pipes.
    Thanks!
    Pam

I think if you used a mini muffin pan and carefully place a few of the beads in the center you might have something light weight enough to make earrings. You could paint the back with clear nail polish or use a thin layer of Mod Podge to make it shiny. Also, (haven't tried) you might coat the bottom of the pan with a clear oil to make both sides shiny. As for the sharp edges, try either an emery board and lightly sand them down or use a clicky lighter to warm the edges enough to melt slightly (try not to burn it) and press down with a pop sickle stick. Press from front to back in a rounding motion. Hope that helps everyone.

    pretty :)
when was a little e we did this as a craft project. since i went to a tiny school my teacher had to take our 'creations' home to cook. obviously none of them turned out the way we planed because of the jostling on the way to her car & the drive... but we all were happy to see them the next day. my defunct lady bug was the best one, imho ;) man teachers are so under paid!

This is an awesome idea. I wonder if it could be done on a flat surface pan covered with wax paper...that way we can make designs of flowers, or candy canes, or snowmen, et cetera, et cetera. HAHAHA. That was a total King and I moment there.

+let me help you out with this one If you ever recycle you can make your own out of tranparent pop bottles just cut them up into what ever shapes you want and then cook them the same way If you all are getting smoke then you are cooking to hot just back off the heat a bit and run them longer If you dont need them translucent you can also use HDPE #2 or #4 plastics the same way as they come in many colors pop bottle caps water bottle caps milk jugs exct. thes only need heated to 185 or so

if you cook them a bit longer you can get them to even out to a smooth surface
Also think about reusein g old recycled plastics as thats what the pony beads are made from PET If you dont need translusent You can use HDPE recycled plastics which have a lower melting point (250 degrees Fahrenheit) and dont give off fumes at all IF you have an old toaster oven you can work with these to make any shape you might want its realy cool Enjoy

  • @Bruuski
    @Bruuski 8 років тому +1

Do this in a fairly inexpensive toaster over outside. Also I wonder if using a silicone mold that comes in shapes would make cool ornaments. Like I have one in the shape of a mouse or a snow flake. Better put the beads into cookie cutter molds.

In a bigger mold do you think they would make a good coaster for your tables? I really like these. Maybe string them all together at different lengths on a dowel for a kids room in the corner for a mobile. I think I am going to try this. I know my granddaughters would love them on a painted dowel.. Good idea. Thanks
