I love your amazing build! First, I am thinking about adopting a cat or two and would love to try the pine litter with a sifting situation like yours, or similar. Secondly, I am disabled and have been considering putting the litter box on something to raise it up, in hopes of making the cleaning easier on myself. This brings all kinds of ideas to mind.❤
I just inherited a feral young kitten who is pregnant... she is using the pellets very well. Thank you for the idea on the base. Appreciate it very much !! BTW.. you can watch for sales at tractor supply and get the 40lb bag for just under $5. I bought 2 !!
I switched over to pellets last year and it was the best decision I made. Saving $50 a month on litter and they make litter boxes for pellets which includes a second pan for the sawdust
Before we knew my Gracie had cancer she ate clumping cat litter and almost died from it. I was not willing to risk the same thing happening to Tiger Lily so even though it took 4 months and a lot of coaxing we switched to pellets. It was not easy to get a special needs cat who doesn't accept change easily to accept the new system but I persevered and with patients won the day. It's been 2 years and we love the pellet litter system. We basically started mixing pellets in more and more until it was all pellets. A lot of work for me as it killed the ability of the clay to clump but I knew I was protecting our health in the long run (I have asthma). So even if your cat objects at first you can make the change if you are willing to do the work. It is so worth it.
I feel very fortunate that my cats made the transition rather easily. Im glad to hear that you were successful with your cats as well even if it took a little more patience. Very much worth it in the long run for their health
Great Video 😊 I have 2 cats and 3 litter boxes..switched over to the pellets and will never ever go back to clay. Best decision. My bag of pellets lasted an entire year, and that’s with me cleaning out the boxes weekly. I also use the potty pads with my system and cut the pads in half and quarters, saving me more money which allows me to clean the boxes more frequently. My cats had no issues going from clay to pellets. I initially had 4 cats and they all did well with the pellets. 😻😻
Look into buying a Breeze litter box (I bought the extra large ones) and swapped the bottom grey part to a large pan that I line with a puppy pad that collects the dust. It’s perfect for large cats! Been using that system ever since Breeze came out with their extra large models. The smaller size Breeze work also if you have cats on the smaller size.
Have been using the Pine Pellets for 10+ years, but am thinking of switching to the Hardwood pellets that are less expensive because of limited income living on SS. Do not look forward to the 40 lb bags, but figure if I can get a bag of the Hardwood pellets into my car, I can then cut open the bag and scoop into 4 smaller bags. Will begin by 1st mixing both kinds of pellets, due to the smell differences, and wean off the Pine Pellets over a few weeks. The wood pellets do break down, and do like the idea of a “sifter” in the bottom. Thank you.
You can make cleaning up the bottom litter box easier if you line it with disposable incontinence pads. Simply gather up the corners and drop in the trash. It will also absorb any excess urine.
Ever since this video everyone acts like it was their idea to use puppy pads and the tractor supply pellets. ua-cam.com/video/HGhQc-B3euM/v-deo.htmlsi=7EIDuGazI1kSmxby
love this! Just adopted a kitten and use this litter box and pine pellets.. was looking for a solution for the dust and this was just what i was looking for.. Thanks! and great job
I really like the idea of a wooden frame. I drill holes in the top pan and put another pan under to catch the saw dust to which I put four small empty cat food cans upside down at the corners as spacers. One of my cats is sensitive to saw dust and got an eye infection so I use regular clay litter in his box. I like so far the clean up process of the pine pellets. Good job sawing guys!
Nice work on your box although from someone who has been using pine pellets for almost 9 yrs, I have to correct you on the no poo smell. It does take care of urine smell but if your kitties do not cover their poo, (many do not with pine pellets and I don’t know why) it will stink up the house. BUT, I will take that trade off over the no more litter tracking and no dust all over the house from regular clay.
One of my cats doesn’t cover her poo either, so I have scoop it out ASAP..fortunately she only poos once a day. Still would never go back to clay. Like you, I feel it is well worth the trade off 😊
Keep looking up videos. I use the green and white breeze litter box since I don’t have tools to make my own but if you do look up more videos you can even find other boxes that are like the breeze system and better. I use that because the person I got my kittens from gave it to me. Also I am glad to found out about tractor supply wood pellets because it is cheaper and also if you get the wood pellets from pet stores it may be more money so definitely try buying them from tractor supply!
Drilling your holes from the outside (bottom) probably left a small lip of plastic around each hole, making it harder for the dust to fall through. Drilling from the inside might have worked better. Overall, good project though.
I had that problem when I first made my sifting litter box. Plus my holes were too small to let the sawdust through. I redid the holes from the inside and made them 1/4” wide. I haven’t had any problems since. Also, I switched cold turkey and Phoenix was fine with it. She actually seems to be more loving since the switch. ❤. I haven’t had to clean her bottom as much and her hairballs have drastically decreased. 😻
I use , (EASY BEDDING PELLETS) PREMIUM PINE ,white bag that the horse race tracks use and it lasts 4 times longer than the tractor supply green bag bedding AND, all you gotta do is take out the poop and mix around the remains till you smell a slight ammonia smell which will be several weeks ( 10 cats in one room ) in a 32" x 15" tub.I have 2 tubs in one room and this system works well. The pine smell is activated real well with this name brand .That way your not throwing away good lets call it saw dust .
Instead of doing all this work just go by a “Breeze” Litter Box and add pine pellets to it. It’s so easy and works just fine. We have 3 of the breeze boxes and my cats like it and use it just fine. 😊
I found on Amazon 1/4 inch sieves. I'm getting this one for $19 which is large and includes work gloves: Wenses Metal Dirt Sifter, 11 x 9 Inch, Galvanized Steel with 1/4" Wire Mesh . I don't work for them or get anything for referring, just being helpfull:)
Cat: Target: Unknown Material detected *Scanning in Process* Target Identification: Pellet? Purpose unknown, Additional scanning required -New pellets are fun to play with, maybe its a new toy *Scanning Process Complete*-Confirmed: New Cat Litter, will initiate use of new litter material But on a serious note, imma definitely start gettin into this pine pellet litter. I legit hate clay litter and im not even the one crappin' in it.
I switched to wood pellets. Just put a little baking soda in the bottom of litter box and add some the pellets. Easy peasy. It's not rocket science and I'm pretty sure my fur babies are not Einstein s.
No, the pellets are kiln-dried (baked) to release and eliminate volatile pine resins, which are toxic to cats. Don't use any pellets unless they say they are kiln-dried (the ones at Tractor Supply are OK.

I switched over to pellets and made my own litter box using plastic storage bins, best thing ever. One 40lb pine bag lasts me one year!
Just use regular hard wood pellets, pine is toxic to cats

That's amazing!!
I have these exact litter boxes and I'm wanting to switch to pellets, so this tutorial with the wood frame was super helpful!

What I found out is that the single best thing to do is use litter liner bags for an easy and quick cleaning
Puppy pads work awesome!. The Costco brand is the best one.

What a great idea. Y’all did great…both the woodwork and the video!
thanks for sharing this build and the steps in detail! very helpful. i will probably drill holes in my box to start, with a pan below.

Canadian here.
Canadian tire sells wood pellets.
Nice job!! I like that you designed it around their existing litter box 👍 I had to laugh at "That's not a toy!!"...lol, mine did the same thing!
love your build
good idea
They will play with the pellets at first. One of my cats tried to use her litter box as a bed for a while. But, she got use to it.
My kittens sleep on it every now and then, I went cold turkey a d so far so good lol
that's adorable 😂
Thanks for sharing. We are looking to move to pellets, but have not figured out our box system yet. This was helpful and useful.
I'm so glad this was helpful! I hope the transition works for you and your cat(s)

@@natnat7583 agreed tractor supply is the way to go! Plus you get so many pellets in one trip

I used "kitten attract" to attract my cat to switching from clay to pine and it worked.

So do you just dump the whole box after a few weeks? Could you explain a little more? Just starting this with my 2 cats

😂
😂😂😂😂😂 you must know my cat
what size drill bit did you use to make the holes in bottom of litter box?
THANKS!!!!! I'm looking forward to less clay on my floor, less dust in the air, less generated trash, and some $avings!
As long as the pine pellets are kiln dried, they are safe for cats.
What about solid waste? Same?
I would make staining it an absolute must. Wood is absorbant and can potential harbor dangerous bacteria.
How much pine pellets do u put in box ? Thank you
We fill it up about a 1/4 of the height of the box so there's maybe 5" of pellets
Primeiro deviam ter lavado o wc, para tirar os resíduos de urina!
Did you have issue with pee go through and just puddle on the bottom?
Not if you keep enough pellets in the top bin
You can put some pellets in the bottom and it will absorb the pee that goes through.
I switched to wood pellets. Just put a little baking soda in the bottom of litter box and add some the pellets. Easy peasy. It's not rocket science and I'm pretty sure my fur babies are not Einstein s.
Great information AND great choice for a future husband!
Is it alright to use sawdust as a cat litter?
No, the pellets are kiln-dried (baked) to release and eliminate volatile pine resins, which are toxic to cats. Don't use any pellets unless they say they are kiln-dried (the ones at Tractor Supply are OK.
You talk too much
