Rio came first. Nosedive was way different, then he literally just was messing around with Nosedive on stream, dragging different melodies into the melodic break. He tried Rio, and thought it worked perfectly. Rio and Nosedive were separate, but then he put the Rio chords in Nosedive and kept it that way.

The uplifting melody is so pure it doesn't need that pulling it down.
